I know I should have done this sooner. In October my wife and I had the great fortune of staying at Barclay House in Vancouver. From the moment we walked in it was abundantly clear that a great deal of attention had been paid to detail. Barclay House is a wonderful old house that has been renovated under the watchful eye of the manager, J.J. who incidentally personifies the positive energy and hospitality of the place.
Barclay House is situated within walking distance of English Bay and numerous other attractions. Frankly it was difficult to pull ourselves away from the house though. With its spacious verandah and grand parlour we just wanted to sit, read, and soak in the warm atmosphere of our lodgings.
While there we stayed in the Peak Room. At the top of the house it simply is a wonderful place to wake from a night's sleep. The room is large and with its skylights and windows it is bathed in natural light.
In the morning we were treated to a sumptuous breakfast. I don't know where they attracted their cook from but I hope they hang on to him. I'm a breakfast person though!
The staff is engaging and very knowledgeable without being fawning. They made our stay delightful.
Barclay House is a gem. I would love to keep it a secret but that wouldn't be fair.
We would return in a heartbeat!
