“A Nice Boutique Hotel for Work”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 12, 2013

This was my 3rd stay at the Granville Island Hotel. All three times have been for business. This time I noticed that the bathrooms had been updated, as had carpeting and some of the linens vs the last time I had stayed.

The rooms are generally very comfortable -- though not necessarily very spacious. This time my room was very small and I could hardly move around the beds. The bathroom - on the other hand -- was very large.

The big issue with this stay was the heat (and lack thereof) in my room. When I first arrived the heat was blazing and the room was over 32 degrees. It wouldn't slow down so I contacted the front desk. They turned it off and it never came back on. It was 14 degrees by morning (very cold). Throughout the next day they tried to repair it. It did work slightly better the next night -- but I did have to get up and manually change the temp throughout the night as the thermostat was broken. I do think the hotel would have had a more satisfied guest had they given me a new room.

Overall -- the staff is friendly and do seem to try to help out. The food we had over several days was okay -- breakfast was far better than either lunch or dinner.

The location is fantastic. You have so many options to wander to in the neighbourhood -- nice restaurants -- art galleries -- paths to walk along the waterfront.

Overall a beautiful place.

Great location on Granville Island for a holiday get-away, with city views across the water. Service was excellent, rooms clean, well-designed and comfortable. The bar and restaurant were also excellent, with friendly servers and very good food. Has the feel of a boutique hotel.

My husband and I stayed at the Granville Island Hotel for his company's holiday party laste weekend. It was wonderful! We ended up with a room with an amazing view. We had stayed here two years ago and had gotten a very tiny room you could barely move in (it was still a great stay and the room was still great). To our surprise and delight we ended up with a gorgeous, nicely-sized room. There were open wood beams and a little sink and microwave in a nook. The room was very well kept. The party was hosted at the hotel in the Dockside Restaurant. Amazing staff and delicious food. A great place to stay especially if you are wanting to explore the Granville Island area.

Room Tip: We were in room 326. It was great!

My wife and I stayed here for three nights for a romantic getaway. It's a lovely hotel - nice rooms, good restaurant, comfy beds - but it's really the location that stands out. It is delightful to simply step outside and walk, day or night. Granville has shops, galleries, live theatre, and a popular, bustling Public Market. And when you want to get off the island, take the Aquabus across to the city and explore on foot.

We also brought our car, and there is plenty of parking right outside the front door ($12/night). This is helpful for visiting far-flung locations. However, I advise getting careful directions to find the access to Granville - e.g. UNDER the west end of Granville Bridge of West 4th.

One last note : in response to a previous comment. We also had a room with an adjoining door. Happily, our neighbors were quiet. But why take a chance? Be sure to request a room WITHOUT an adjoining door, which always allows sound to leak through.

Room Tip: Be sure to request a room WITHOUT an adjoining door, which always allows sound to leak through.

We have stayed here before but this time we were ver disappointed. The walls are ver y thin and we spent until 2 am listening to the neighbors talk! If you want to sleep go to another hotel. When I brought this to hotel staff attention, they apologized but did not offer any compensation. At least a free breakfast or parking would have dampened my ire.oh yeah, they now charge for parking.

This is our fist time back to Vancouver in 30 years. Our son and family recently moved from Boston to Vancouver. My husband and I wanted to stay as near to their town house as possible so as to walk to them and to walk the sea wall and local cultural sites. The Granville Island Hotel could not have been more ideal. Its location at the end of Granville Island offered steps to the Market, boutiques, coffee houses and a few more steps to Granville Road and Bridge that opened opportunities to part take in so many local sites. We loved walking the sea wall, walking and biking trail, took the aqua bus which was steps from the hotel, ate outdoors at "Go Fish", part took in the hotel's annual wine tasting in the Dockside restaurant, hosted our grand daughters in our suite, had a A+ breakfast together in the Dockside also. We had to change rooms midstream (our choice so our grand daughter could spend a couple nights with us), and the staff made it seamless. The workout area was truly easily accessible. The uniqueness of this hotel still evokes warm memories. Each room was unique and views from every room were in themselves spectacular. It was an outstanding experience.

Room Tip: The executive suite was vast, with two wings, so privacy was maintained. We had a corner room so we...

Great hotel, small enough to be quiet, and service was super. We stayed for a wedding, took kids from 20 months to 15 years old. Room service did offer reasonably plriced kids meals. Font desk staff were very helpful, and answered ayny question or need we had.
Nothing the hotel did wrong, just not a place i would recommend taking kids to. no quick easy meals like McDonalds or such within walking distance. Other than that Great hotel and nice area

Room Tip: Direct water view would be nice, but our room had a partial view and was still nice
