“Granville Island Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2013

I have stayed at the GIH on many occasions (>5) over the past few years and most recently this July and return there because it is simply the best hotel, the best value, best location, and the best night rest you can find in any large city in north america.

We stayed at the Granville Island Hotel on July 6 and 7th .We attended a wedding at Granville Island and decided to stay a extra day to take in Vancouver.
Check in was quick and desk clerks were very pleasant and helpful.
We stayed on the third floor. The room faced the park in the back and was very quiet. The room has no fridge just a mini bar fridge stocked with things to buy.
The room is not big but very nice .They have a small balcony with two chairs and a table.Just room enough to sit out on.
House keeping was fine. The hotel was full so I am sure they were very busy.
We didnt eat at the hotel so can not comment on that.
In closing it is very close to the market and easy access to buses. We had a great time and would stay again.

Stayed here for three nights end of June 2013. A very lovely hotel with great staff who were most accommodating. The room was clean and well equipped with a lovely view over the little green hill with the Canadian flag flying. We didn't have much control over the heating in the room, so it got quite hot during the nights. The hotel is based on Granville Island which has the BEST markets and food to be found in all of Vancouver. Little aqua buses (ferries) connect the island to everywhere you would want to go. We didn't have a car and didn't need one. The public transport in Vancouver is brilliant. Thank you!

On the advice of a friend, we stayed here for one night the day we disembarked from an Alaska cruise. I would like for it to have been two. We did request assistance with lights in the bathroom that really only took longer to charge up fully & also, operating the TV. Both times, we had prompt response from the front office & maintenance & the problems were quickly resolved.

We had a corner room on the third floor, overlooking the busy harbor & the Dockside Grill. It was a lovely view even for an overcast day. The room had a modern, spacious appearance with comfy beds/pillows. The large wrap around corner window offered a great view!

I was disappointed that we could not order off of a dinner menu 20 minutes early (available at 5PM), & was not impressed with the crab cakes appy that I settled for instead ( this was in the interior restaurant). But I sampled a friend's hamburger & it was really the best! We had been up early & wanted to dine early & then get some rest before our early flight out the next morning.

My husband was craving a good, private hot tub after being on a cruise for 7 days with inconvenient, public hot tubs & this was suited him perfectly! He also enjoyed the computer room.

Overall, it was a nice stay & I would definitely recommend it!

Room Tip: I followed the advice of requesting a water view & quiet room & they did not disappoint!

We always wanted to stay here...and we did. My husband surprised me for our 20th anniversary. We were there 2 nights. We were familiar with the island, and the patio restaurant. We stayed in 401 penthouse- 1st night. A very large suite, beautiful views....decor out dated....as is the tub. The jets were not working, and upon checking in- a house keeping employee was trying to dry the wet carpet between the bed and main washroom. It remained wet the entire day. We had to move to the other penthouse due to bookings, and were we ever glad we did. The balcony is double the length with better views, as is the layout of the room and the tub worked!!!:)
We mentioned the wet rug, and tub not working when we switched rooms, and all we got was- we'll make note of it. VERY disappointing. I found the cost of the room to be quite high considering the outdated decor. I did LOVE the space, open windows/balcony doors, & the fantastic bed.
I know we will be back. I just hope they invest in updating the decor to match the beauty of the outside surroundings.

Room Tip: Perfect for a couples retreat- very relaxing and romantic.Go with room 402- bigger, better views, ni...

We stayed here for 7 nights whilst on a visit to our student son in Vancouver. The hotel is well situated on friendly Granville Island. We had a room overlooking the water. The room was well appointed whilst not being in any sense 'grand'. The bed was comfortable, the bathroom good and a small balcony allowed us to spend a little time soaking up the atmosphere. The hotel is also linked to the Dockside restaurant and micro brewery whose ales are worth sampling!
The island itself has a fascinating and welcoming community with plenty to see and do and is well served by the aquabus which is a great way to get to downtown Vancouver and Yaletown.

Hotel is has a great location for our overnight stay; however, would not want to stay longer without a car or taxis. Stayed in a superior room with a bit more space. Room was very Spartan and in need of a face lift. Bathroom was ok to start with a walk in shower but no tub. In the morning, the shower filed up with water due to the lack of drainage and the toilet backed up. The front desk indicated they would contact maintenance, however no one came. We were told no one was going to come until we checked out. Sure glad we only stayed the one night. The dining room was great - excellent food and limited wine list.
Will not repeat staying at this property.

Room Tip: Rooms over looking the court yard and nearer the water are better.

Thank you for your sharing your experience at the hotel. Without your feedback we would not be able to improve the hotel and overall guest experience.

The room which you stayed in had previously had a drainage problem that a plumber had looked at, unfortunately the issued appeared to have not been resolved.
I am also disappointed in the way our staff handled your complaints regarding the drainage issue. We should have sent maintenance up right away, and I do apologize for this. There is nothing more important than a good shower especially when you are traveling and poor drainage definitely sours this experience.
I have spoken with all of our staff and they now realize that the situation should have been dealt with right away.
I have also had a plumber back at the hotel and the issue has now been properly addressed.
Again, I do apologize for the negative experience you had and hope you will come back to the hotel again.

Sincerely,

Christine Louden
