We stayed at the Sandman in September 7th, for 3 nights. Our total bill was $443US which landed it the $150 per night including taxes.
The room was small but nice, the area reminds me of Melrose ave for those of you from Los Angeles. Lot's of food places, clothing stores, coffee shops, smoke shops, internet cafes, and colorful crowds. Davie street is the main "drag" of the gay community, so make sure your comfortable with the culture.
One complaint was the housekeeping. We found items that were left from a prior guest in the bedside table. And the most irritating of all, they did not replenish our coffee supplies each day. Hmm you would think.. these guests brewed ther coffee and used all of the cream and sugar, maybe we should give them more coffee, but no.. they just wahsed our glasses and straightened the supplies. My boyfriend had to get dressed to go down for coffee. By instinct the next day we asked for an extra bag, and sure enough housekeeping forgot again to fill our coffee. This seems like a little thing, but was really annoying. The other issue was that the room keys de magnetized very easliy. not fun when rolling up late at night only to get to your room and find the key wont let you in! Overall good value considering prices at nearby hotels.

Met a family here for family reunion and it was wonderful. I liked the secure way the elevators work....must have room key to use them. Free internet access available.... never had to wait to use computers. Friendly helpful staff.


There was a problem with valet parking and hotel readily assumed full responsibility when vehicle was damaged.

Moxie's, grill next door, had good food, but was slow service.

We enjoyed staying at the Sandman Suites for 4 nights from Aug 20-23, 2005. We got a great price ($149 Cdn), which is an excellent deal for high season in downtown Vancouver (other hotels I looked at were in the $200-$300 price range for 3 1/2 star to 5 stars). This hotel has a kitchen, including fridge, and washer/dryer combo.

This location is perfect for visiting downtown Vancouver, we were able to walk EVERYWHERE from this location....including Yaletown, Robson Street, Canada Place, ferry to go to Granville Island. For a real treat, walk to Yaletown, rent some bikes and cycle along the seawall to Stanley Park...check out all the cool people and wonderful beaches along the way. You can even catch the ferry to Kits Beach from just a few blocks near the hotel. Even our room with "no view" had a pretty decent view of Davies Street. There are many restaurants and shops open at all hours on Davies. This hotel is located in the heart of Vancouver's gay community. Although all are welcome, if you are easily bothered by this, don't stay here. Better yet, don't go to Vancouver. It is a beautiful city with a very open minded.

The hotel has a nice lobby, and generally friendly staff. The rooms are quite large (living room, bedroom, and kitcken) and have air conditioning. We found the bed VERY hard, so we just pulled out the sofa bed and found that to be comfortable. The room wasn't perfectly clean (ie. we did find the occasional stray hair on our sheets), but then again I've found this is $300 per night hotels.

A comment about parking...when you check in you are told to 'valet park' since it's the same price, but we said "no, thanks - prefer to park ourselves" and they were fine with that and told us where to park.

Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel for a comfortable stay and fun time in Vancouver. Our only suggestion is that you will need more than 4 days to fully appreciate Vancouver!

Stayed at the Sandman - good location, modern suites but let down by front desk service management being very poor.

Problem with the toilet notified on arrival took two days to sort out - after repeated requests - by transferring us to another room. That room was not serviced for two days requiring repeated calls to the front desk. Also if you do stay there get a room 6th floor or above.
