“Fine hotel recently refurbished”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2012

Bedroom/suite very spacious and well appointed with excellent cooking facilities both hot plate and microwave, refrigerator/freezer, dishwasher and sink. Two fine sized beds and an excellent sunset view over part of the Creek.

Very extensive complimentary breakfast buffet with variations in what is offered each morning.

Pleasant complimentary minibuffet on two or three nights per week.

A very comfortable lobby with a fire.

Only complaint was an erratic elevator service.

Excellent bus and trolley services nearby.

We had the pleasure of spending two nights at the Mariiott Residence Inn in downtown Vancouver the first week it was opened in August '12, and were delighted by the experience. The hotel is on Hornsby and a little tricky to find because of the one-way streets and downtown traffic. But once we were settled in we could park our car and easily explore the city on foot. Turn one way out the front door of the hotel and you're just a few short blocks from the waterfront where miles and miles of gorgeous pathways await you. You can walk for hours and then head into Stanley Park, which is magnificent. If you turn out of the hotel in the other direction the rest of the city awaits, with restaurants, pubs, stores, and some fantastic people watching. Absolutely loved it, and highly recommend it! By the way, breakfast [included with the room] was delicious, with indoor or outdoor seating.

Hello! As a Marriott Platinum Elite Member I have stayed at many a Residence Inns. Overall, I have loved the chain. There are certainly misses along the way, but this property hits high marks all the way despite some small concerns. I used points for all 3 nights of our stay.
The location was amazing. You can walk all over the place from this property. Vancouver is such an amazing city and this property puts you right smack in the middle of it all. A few blocks from Yaletown, a short jaunt to Robson Street, and a stones throw from all the gay highlights on Davie Street makes it an ideal location to stay. For several reasons we did have a rental car, and used the parking garage. Be careful if you use the garage. It is cramped and tight. Wow, it tests your driving skills to say the least. The garage is shared by a business, and the property next door, so heads up!
The lobby was totally inviting and comfortable. Of course with the remodel, it is all new and cozy with a neat rock fireplace in the middle. Front desk staff was all top notch! Check in was smooth and easy.
We were given a room on the 18th floor with a large balcony! How wonderful Both my partner and I were so impressed. The furnishings we all up to date. The kitchen was large and stocked with everything. All new appliances and all! The size of the overall suite was decent, but I was surprised at a couple things. 1. No couch and only one char to sit in, beside the desk chair and two barstools. 2. No dresser drawers! What? Really? The only place besides the closest were the two drawers on each side of the bed which were the nightstands. Residence Inn is technically extended stay property and we stayed for 3 nights. If I was a long term traveler, I would not be happy with no place to put my clothes. I have never stayed at a Residence Inn with this issue. I am not sure if it was just this room or if they all did not have dressers. 3. Bathroom, modern, but way small, barely enough room to turn around. The amenities were great and the shower was fantastic. Even though the shower did not drain properly due to inappropriate sloping of the shower pan. The bed was comfortable and the noise was zilch if you closed the balcony slider. We had dinner on the balcony one night, so nice!
Elevators, overall....SLOW!
Hotel workout room....GREAT! Great size and lots of stuff to stay fit.
Pool...indoor..didn't use...looked nice!
Breakfast service...Busy, but not too bad. The food was way good and plenty of it. The eating area is on the second floor with for the most part, plenty of room to find a table. The last day, a Monday, they closed part of the eating area for some type of meeting which made sitting difficult about 8:30 AM.
Restaurant...way to many good places close by and did not use it!
Free Wi-Fi..Great!
Overall, I love Vancouver and would return to this property in a heartbeat. Check it out, you won't be disappointed.

Room Tip: Great views high up!

LOVE your headline! So glad you enjoyed your stay. We do, in fact, have different room configurations that have larger bathrooms, sofabeds, and dressers. It depends on your reservation and availability of rooms at the time of booking. The elevators are improving - they are being worked on consistently and every day we see improvements.

Thank you so much for being a Platinum Elite Marriott Rewards member - we greatly appreciate your loyalty!

Kind Regards,

Suzanne Allemeier, General Manager

Check in good with very friendly staff. Internet and breakfast were included in the price. Laundry facilities on site which was great for our party of 6. Buffet breakfast was good and the restaurant was ok but a limited menu and a very helpful and friendly waitress.

Lobby area good but hotel probably not in the best location but only a short walk to most places.

Rooms had a good kitchen area and great furniture in a larger than average room. View from our room was not good even though it was supposed to be 'city' view.

Would stay again and highly recommend.

Room Tip: Maybe opposite side to our room but then it would be overlooking the street and could be noisy.

Marriott took over this property several months before we stayed in mid Sept. 2012. The hotel was nicely redone and the rooms were clean and neat. However, they have problems which I am not sure they can fix. We had a room with a king bed when we arrived. Once in the room, we discovered it had a humming noise in the room as a whole. It also had a sink faucet that sprayed water sideways. I called the desk. They were very accomodating and offered us a room higher up with a balcony. We moved. The room had a queen bed and was smaller. For the "view" we could live with that - who wants to change rooms twice when you just arrive from a cross country trip? This room had even more noise and it came from the ventilation system. It is not just that the vent is above the bed and makes the usual noise when the AC runs (it was in the 70's), the whole system seems to be humming and the higher up you are the louder the hum. If you are bothered by noise, I'd find another place or bring your ear plugs. The bed was comfy, but you have no choice of pillows and mine was thicker than I like. The breakfast in the morning was excellent with a lot of choices and it is included in the price.

Room Tip: Rooms with "views" may only have you looking at another high rise. The higher up you go...
