“Very nice stay in Vancouver”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2014

Booked this trip with Virgin Holidays much earlier in the year & got a really good deal. The hotel is a short walk from the main train station and catching the skytrain to & from the airport is cheap & easy. The Fairmont waterfront is very well located for tourists as all the main city bus tour stops are right across the road from the hotel. The station & sea ferry terminals are also really close by so its easy to get around the city and surrounding areas.
Check in was fast & efficient and throughout our stay, we found all the staff to be polite and friendly. The hotel was fairly quiet during our stay with a mix of business travellers & tourists. We had a room on a higher floor with a view over the water. Rooms are a good size with all the expected amenities, including free wifi & huge TV. Bathroom was small but very clean and a nice selection of Le Labo toilietries. We celebrated my birthday & our anniversary during our stay and the hotel gifted us a lovely bottle of fizz, chocolates and a jar of the hotel's own honey.
The hotel doesn't advertise it, but there is a reasonably sized food court underneath the hotel which is linked to the convention centre. Here you will find the likes of Starbucks, McDonalds, Tim Hortons, Subway etc so easy to grab a cheap meal. Also a few shops and underground access to the station. To get to the food court, just take the elevator to the basement, or turn right at the concierge desk and then take the escalator down.
Gastown is a short walk away as is the seawall & Stanley Park. In fact, we walked all over the city - its really easy to navigate the streets. Great shopping in Vancouver and plenty of sightseeing trips etc. If you're a dog lover, check out Barking Babies....a gorgeous dog boutique with loads of super cute clothes / toys and really friendly staff.
All in all, we really enjoyed our Vancouver trip and both the hotel and the Virgin Atlantic flight were a great experience. Would definitely recommend.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on a higher floor

My husband and I decided to spend our last weekend for 2013 here. Our room was 1 one of those just renovated, with marble tiles floor and a 52" flat screen tv (which my husband love) and very comfortable bed. The decor was ok it's moderate compare to other Fairmont hotels..

The Herons restaurant is closed for renovation until February but they have a lounge at 3rd floor over looking the terrace garden and the mountain/ocean view. The food was good and the our server Krista was so funny but helpful.

The only thing that was wrong with this hotel, is the room ( 719) was noisy from the water pipe inside the closet. The water was running like flushing your toilet constantly so my husband couldn't sleep.

We still like to recommend this hotel. It is very clean, the staff are very friendly and it is in the centre of the city with train underground, and the fastfood centre. all good.

Room Tip: avoid room 719. there is pipe in the closet and during the nite when everything is quiet, the sound...

Fairmont Hotel. The name alone reflects an outstanding standard among hotels. As part of a tour we stayed at five Fairmont hotels in July, each unique, each wonderful, but in our view this was the best. It is right on the Vancouver waterfront. A special experience.

My wife and I spent one night in Downtown Vancouver in December 2013. We had a room with a northwest view, and it was absolutely beautiful! We sat in the room in front of our window and watched the sun set over the mountains on what became a clear, crisp and windy December evening. The hotel was easy walking distance to many bars and restaurants, especially those in Gastown.

My friends and family stayed at this hotel, just after Christmas in 2013. The location at the waterfront, opposite the Canada Place (which has the Fly over Canada ride) is great. It is close to the convention center too.

The rooms were nice, we had booked a room with two double beds and the dimensions of the room was of a decent size. You have to remember that at this time of the year, it rains a lot. So the kids were comfortable and the grown ups did not feel claustrophobic staying in it.

The housekeeping folks were very good, and attended to our needs promptly. The concierge at the hotel was really helpful, helping us organize tours and getting tickets booked for us.

At the concourse level of the hotel, there are doors into the small mall that can lead you to a food court (Subway, McDonalds, Tim Hortons, Starbucks, Fat Burger etc) which in turn has a tunnel that leads you to Canada Place (also home to the Pan Pacific Hotel, Fly over Canada ride).

All in all a good three night stay for me and my family.

Room Tip: The harbor facing rooms permit you a view of the harbor, but our room had the bonus of a view of the...

We'd stayed in a couple of Fairmonts before so my husband booked this for the end of our holiday in Canada as a treat. I'm sure on a different occasion my review would be very different but unfortunately it was far from a relaxing experience. In a nutshell, when we checked in we were told that they had double booked our room due to a large conference staying at the hotel (we had booked 6 weeks earlier and they had made no attempt to contact us) and we would need to stay at a Marriott for the night and then return the next day. We were travelling with our one year old daughter and it was 6pm and we'd just given back our hire car so were willing to stand and debate this rather than simply go elsewhere. In short, we were miraculously found a room an hour later, apologised to profusely and offered breakfasts on the hotel as way of compensation. As far as I'm concerned this would have been the end of the matter and the hotel would not have received this review if it had not transpired that the room we were given had broken air con/heating which resulted in one night being very cold (enough to wake our daughter in the middle of the night even with extra layers) and the next when it was apparently "fixed" absolutely roasting. I believe the hotel management knew this when they gave us the room. They did try to compensate us again with lunch and a drink which was a step in the right direction, but as far as I'm concerned this should never have happened in the first place.
However, the rest of the staff were lovely and their customer service was exemplary - the management could definitely learn a thing or two from them! They are the reason that I've awarded two stars rather than one.

Dear Guest,
Thank you very much for sharing your feedback. It is obviously extremely disappointing to read of the frustrations you experienced while visiting the hotel. I have spoken with our Director of Front Office about the confusion over your check-in to ensure a similar experience doesn't happen to anyone else. I have also spoken with our Chief Engineer to make sure the heating system is functioning correctly in all areas of the hotel. I am very sorry that your stay did not meet your expectations. Should your travels bring you back to Vancouver, please contact me at indu.brar@fairmont.com. It would be my pleasure to assist you with your travel plans and ensure your stay is exceptional.

As this is a Fairmont property it offers the expected Fairmont service and quality rooms but it also has an advantage that most other Fairmonts can't match. Now this is not for everyone, but if you intend to be in Vancouver during the winter months this is the place to stay. As the name suggests the property is on the waterfront where the cruise ships depart from. As there are no cruise departures in the winter months the hotel offers some pretty good deals during this period - advance purchase being the best choice - not for everyone, but great if it suits.
The location is good, easy walk to Gastown and restaurants.

Room Tip: Bit of a risky strategy however works for us on most occasions. First join the the President's C...
