“great view”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

we had two pre tour nights at this wonderful hotel before we started our amazing Globus tour spirit of the rockies. the view from our room was spectacular, it was where all the cruise ships pull in. good size room very clean and the staff were amazing. the only downside was the terrible food in the restaurant breakfast was fine as it was a buffet it was the dinner at night. I do believe they are addressing that problem though. I would give the hotel and staff a 10/10

Room Tip: ask for a waterfront room and we always asked for double beds and the rooms were always bigger

Dear Guest, I would like to thank you for your informative review of The Fairmont Waterfront for TripAdvisor. I am perhaps a bit biased, but I agree that we do have the most enviable location in the city, located on the waterfront but just steps away from all the dining, shopping and sight-seeing action. Thank you again for choosing to stay with us and I do hope we have the opportunity to welcome you back soon. Warm regards, Indu Brar, General Manager

For location and comfort on the waterfront in Vancouver the Fairmont is a winner. close to the Gaslight area, bars and plqaces to eat it was excellent. The waterfront is across the street, and although expensive to stay there, it was still value for money in all aspects.

We stayed at the Fairmont Waterfront for 2 nights before getting on an Alaskan Cruise. Our room was very nice. We could actually see our cruise ship from the window, which was pretty cool. We only ate at the restaurant for lunch when we got there, but it was excellent. The staff was very helpful. Our luggage had missed our connecting flight and the hotel was very helpful in tracking it down and delivering it to our room that night, and they transferred our luggage to the cruise ship for us, so no dragging bags through the cruise terminal...awesome!

My one minor complaint was that they didn't handle a fire alarm so well. I didn't lower my rating for this as I imagine this is a very rare occurrence, but I think they could have done better. It was something like 10:30pm and someone in a guest room pulled the fire alarm and we all had to evacuate in the rain, most of us in our pajamas. Yep, fire trucks showed up and everything, and okay, stuff happens. But when we were let back in the building almost all of the stairwell doors were locked so they would unlock one door and then we'd go up a floor and had to yell for help again to get somebody to open the door on the next floor, and so on up the building. It was late and we were all tired, and I just felt think they should have had some sort of knowledge on what to do in this situation, albeit rare. We did get a nice apology letter the next day, but that was all. Considering part of the reason you stay in a place like this is to get a good night sleep, and we didn't so much, I would have liked something more.

Upon arrival at 12:15 a.m. you would anticipate an easy arrival. Well to our dismay that was not the case.

When we walked into what should have been a lovely room (as my husband is a member of the President's Club) it was very much the opposite. We entered a room that did not have a "real" bed so to speak. It was an adjoining room to a suite that had a Murphy bed on the wall! Yes, I said a Murphy bed. How old are we? And did I mention this was The Fairmont. This is the type of room that we normal have for our son when he travels with us - a connected room to our suite making it twice the size.

In addition, the carpet was wet and damp (impossible to stand on without shoes) and it reeked of smoke; in what should have been a non-smoking room. Even more problematic, I could hear the people next door and their every move in the shower.

Did I mention this was an anniversary trip?
My husband spoke to the front desk gentleman three hours prior to our arrival and our room accommodations were confirmed. So imagine his disappointment as we exit the elevator and enter a room with champagne and chocolate covered strawberries sitting on a table where there is small Murphy bed sitting in the middle of a wet, damp, smoky room. When I sat on the bed and touched the pillow - you will not guess what happened. Dust flew up in the air. They did not even think to change the sheets or pillows. They just let the bed and all of the covers that had been there - remained.

I think the most disappointing was the way the front desk handled my husband. Matt Lewis offered my husband free breakfast for the inconvenience. Can you believe that breakfast. If you frequent Fairmont and any hotels in this class, really - do you think we cannot afford breakfast! Insulting to say the least. The Night Relief Manager, Emma Dagg, was not much better because she was unable to answer my questions. Her only response to how this mishap occurred was to respond that they over-sold the rooms and that there was nothing they could do. Seriously???

The beginning of this hotel stay was off to a bad start! Let’s see if they reedmen themselves. Stay tuned tonight.

Dear Guest, Thank you for taking the time to comment on your recent experience; guest feedback is very important to us as we consistently review our practices to ensure we offer our guests the service and products they deserve. I would like to offer my sincerest apologies that despite your reservation specifications and husband’s follow-up call that we were unable to provide the appropriate room type upon your arrival. The confusion was completely on our part and we are very sorry for your disappointment with the room provided and the impact it had on your anniversary. Please know I have thoroughly reviewed your concerns with our leadership team as this is certainly not the service or lastly impression we wish to provide and your feedback identifies the opportunity for improvement when communicating with our guests. Should your travels bring you to Vancouver again in the future, it would be our pleasure to welcome you back to The Fairmont Waterfront. If there is ever anything else we can do to make your time with us more comfortable; please do not hesitate to contact me personally at 604-691-1892 or by email at indu.brar@fairmont.com. The rooms and the hotel itself were modern and very well kept. the restaurant had a variety of choices, and the waitstaff was excellent. this is a wonderful location with easy access to the city, shopping, restaurants, bars, and a walk along the water. i recommend it to those traveling for work or for pleasure. the hotel does get very busy when cruise ships are in town, but the hotel staff handles it well.

Room Tip: ask for a view of the water

We stayed in this hotel for a single night, prior to a seven day cruise and then again, for a further four nights later. We arrived by Sky Train from the airport, a great cheap method of travel and were immediately given an upgrade to a harbour view room. This was on the 14th floor and had a great view of the waterfront, with the ships coming and going and also the floatplanes. The room was excellent, with good furnishings and a very comfortable bed. We ate breakfast in the hotel the next morning and here I have the one and only criticism. In an establishment of this quality and given the cost, I do not appreciate having to queue and wait for a table! The restaurant is clearly not large enough to cope with the numbers of guests. The breakfast was very nice but as expected, rather expensive. We left the following day, the cruise terminal just being across the road from the hotel.
When we returned to Vancouver, we weren't given an upgrade, the receptionist stating that, whilst they gave us it for one night, they wouldn't give it for four! We could of course pay. We decided to look at the room allocated, which was on the 19th floor. It was absolutely fine. It was much larger than the upgrade and although the view wasn't across the harbour, it was across the Vancouver skyline. It was again, very well furnished with a large tv and coffee/tea making facilities. The bathroom was excellent. Lovely towels, toiletries and bathrobes.
This hotel appears to be regularly used by people on cruises. As such, it seems to have a rapid turnover of guests and is therefore busy. It is in a great location, right on the waterfront. It is ideal for cruisers and for anyone wishing to get transport to attractions, such as Capilano, Grouse Mountain etc., as the buses are virtually outside. We enjoyed our stay at this hotel.

Room Tip: All the rooms in this hotel are good. If you want a harbour view, you will have to pay to upgrade bu...
