My wife and I stayed here with two friends from 1st – 4th January 2008 as the conclusion to a self-organised trip around the Rockies.
The Fairmont Waterfront is really well located on Canada Place, with immediate access to Downtown, Gastown and the waterfront. Yaletown, Granville Island and Stanley Park are all close by in a taxi, or half an hour on foot. The seaplane terminals are only a few minutes walk from the hotel’s front door.
Our room on the 21st floor had a great view of the waterfront, Stanley Park and the mountains beyond. It was exciting to watch the seaplanes appear in the distance and follow their path as they swooped in and landed on the water directly below us. We had a large Queen bed and ample storage space, and the bathroom was huge. As with all Fairmont hotels, there are plenty of luxury toiletries.
The only meal we ate in the hotel was in Herons restaurant in the lobby on New Year’s Day, and even though it was very quiet there was still a full menu and the food was excellent. We also found ourselves stopping here for a nightcap on more than one occasion as it was very relaxing!
The Concierge was extremely helpful, booking return seaplane flights to Victoria for us at 1 hour’s notice. We had been drawn in having watched them landing and taking off! The bell service was also excellent and on two occasions they drove us to restaurants in one of the hotel’s cars. Furthermore, they lent us umbrellas when it was raining.
For other dining options in Vancouver, Cin Cin Ristorante on Robson Street is well worth a visit if you want to splash out on good Italian food and a bottle of wine from the impressive list. And as we were leaving for the airport on our last day we noticed a Morton’s Steakhouse right beside the hotel, which is bound to be excellent. If we had known it was there we would have definitely booked a table.
We would have no problem staying here again should we return to Vancouver.
