After reading all the reviews on TripAdvisor we booked direct with Sunset Inn and on arrival very early in the morning (before 10am)our room was ready. Room 705 non smoking floor, great for families, huge king bed for parents and kids had their own sofa bed each. Kitchen was more than adequate to have breakfast if you did not indulge in the intercontinental breakfast provided on a single trolley in the lobby! We even cooked dinner and made sandwiches for lunch in our kitchen. All is good for this budget accommodation however staff could be a little more helpful or happy!! Note - you have to take your own bags to your room don't expect help. There is a on site laundry with washing powder free you just pay for the washing machine and dryer. Although in a quiet street parallel to Davie Street it is opposite the Youth Hostel - where revellers may wake you at 3am coming home - not a major issue. We walked everywhere from this hotel even home from GM stadium after watching our first ice hockey game. Overall, a great place for families on a budget.

My husband is a repeat visitor to this property, but for the rest of our family, it was our first time.
On the plus side, we were upgraded to an executive room, so we got to experience the best they have here at Sunset Inn. The room was quite nicely decorated for the most part (the kitchen appliances could use upgrading), and the room was very spacious (a large one bedroom). The downsides were: room is not well insulated from noise, shower either not working or too confusing to figure out (neither a good situation), the breakfast was marginal and completely self serve (so, no one to assist or explain where things are, etc.), and the front desk staff really seem uninterested and unfriendly.
Another downside was at check out, we had to take our luggage down 7 flights of stairs because the elevator stopped working. The front desk person didn't offer an apology for the inconvienience or anything! Also, parking is quite tight here....tricky to get into the lot. If you have a large vehicle, it will be a major challenge!
Overall, a great choice if you have a larger group or require a kitchen. I'd advise buying breakfast supplies and making your own.

Sunset Inn and Suites is a great place to stay. It was located on a quiet street but still within walking distance of a lot of Vancouver sights.

We booked through Quickbook and got a really good rate. The rooms are large with everything you need. King bed was comfortable and huge. The decor is not very modern but it is functional and as the week progressed we appreciated our extra space.

And, the friendly and helpful staff at the hotel were great - with none of those pesky little extra costs that other higher priced hotels charge.

This is a great place to stay in Vancouver. The decor may be a bit tired, but you are not paying much for it. The rooms are a good size and have all that you need.

The secure parking is free and removes worries about leaving your car on the street.

The location is very good. Not far from English Bay, Stanley Park or downtown. The area is in the 'gay quarter', but there is no hassle for straights. There are restaurants within easy walking distance on Davie (try Moxies's Classic Grill) and also on Pacific Street. There is a Vera's Burger Shack on Davie that serves really great burgers prepared fresh. There is a 24hr supermarket nearby. The hotel is also just down from the big bus tour bus stop.

We stayed at the Sunset Inn and Suites for two nights in September. We had an Executive studio which was on the 9th floor of this 11 story property. The Inn is located just a block off the popular Davies Street, on a quiet street of mixed apartment/condo buildings and small scall lodgings. The lobby is small and unassuming here, but the staff are friendly and helpful. Our room was a nice sized well appointed studio consisting of a bedroom/living area with patio, and a combination dining/ kitchen area. The room was stylish, spotless, and well furnished; and the king bed was extra comfortably dreamy! The bathroom had nice amenities, and was very well maintained with new fixtures throughout. The bedroom/living area had large windows with an outside patio that had great views of the city. There was ample closet and drawer space and an in-room safe. The Inn has only about four rooms to a floor, and this gave a nice feel to the place; sort of like having your own condo in the city. Sadly we had to move on after two days, though we were sorely tempted to stay after the manager offered us a great rate for an additional two night stay. There's no pool here, no room service, no restaurant, and a modest continental breakfast; but hey! You're just a block from Davies Street where you'll find everything you could want.
