My fiancee and I stayed at the Renaissance Harbourside as an interim stop between Whistler and Seattle. Because it was ranked so high in Trip Advisor, we thought that it was a safe bet for a good night's sleep. Not the case! We booked the room the same afternoon we stayed - payed around $230 CAD, $200 american. We were "upgraded" to a harborside room, which had 2 connecting doors to the rooms on either side of us. We were subject to babies crying, people talking loudly on the phone, tvs blaring all night.
Additionally, the rooms in this Renaissance are old, worn and not worth the price tag. If you can get it cheaper, then maybe stay, otherwise there are many more hotels in Vancouver with nicer appointments, better locations, and thicker walls.
My summary - dated, smelly, old, family tourists, etc. Avoid because you have the choice.
