We stayed at this hotel for four nights and what a find! We'd originally booked a normal double room, which was a great rate, but were upgraded to a junior suite, which was fabulous! (think they felt for us after we'd decided to drive straight from Banff to Vancouver in one day) The staff were extremely helpful and the bar next door - we didn’t eat in the restaurant, though menu looked great - were also very friendly.

The room itself was gorgeous, with a huge bed, large bathroom and a separate sitting room with TV. The normal room I'd booked look really lovely too.

It's location is perfect - not far to walk to the best shops and sights and the frontline staff were more than happy to recommend some great places to eat. We did the tour bus around Vancouver which was good. It's similar to the ones in London - a hop-on, hop-off approach.

If I were to go back to Vancouver, I would definitely stay here again. There is building work going on next door - they're building a new hotel/apartment block - but this didn't deter our stay at all.

Stayed here for a couple of days to citytrip Vancouver: great location just besides the Vancouver Art Gallery, a couple of blocks from old Gastown and the Waterfront. Proximity to the Skytrain as well. Hotel is fine, modern rooms and my hotel room offer included free wireless internet. Some construction work besides the hotel which did not prove to be much of a hassle. Friendly French concierge arranging for local hockey tickets last minute. Furthermore, a somewhat small gym (20 square meters) and a swimming pool (did not use the latter however).

Spent a 4 day weekend in Vancouver (which is, by the way, one of the most beautiful places in the world) and stayed at the Metropolitan. I selected this hotel based on Trip Advisor recommendations and the hotel website and could not have been happier.

The location of the hotel is perfect - right in the middle of the city and within an easy walk to everywhere. While we tend to enjoy walking vs. using public transport, everything we wanted to see was either a close walk or a healthier walk...and a few places visited required a cab.

The hotel iteself is modern but warm with beautiful rooms, huge baths with walk-in shower and large tub, a nice little balcony to get some fresh air and see the city, and incredibly comforatble beds! We asked for a high floor which was nice for views and to mitigate a big of city noise but to be honest, the noise was never an issue and you're in a big city - of course there is some noise. As far as the construction next door, we heard it but it was never an issue. The staff are very helpful and welcoming. We did not eat in the hotel restaurant which is well thought of in the city.

Close by is Robson St. shopping, restaurants, bars, walks to the harbor and Stanley Park...a longer walk or easy cab ride to the aquarium (small but very nice and fun), Chinatown (get a little culture and good food), and Granville Island (great market and shopping).

Some restaurant recommendations: Imperial Chinese (great Peking duck) but the highlights were dinner at Vij's (Indian) which was simply one of the best meals we've ever had and Vij, himself, works the room while you wait with delicious appetizers and great stories; Tojo's for sushi (we ate omakase at the bar) - the food was local, fresh, and almost art on a plate -- it is very expensive but sitting at the bar with Tojo cooking for you was a treat and worth every penny. And finally, JapoDog. That's right, Japanese Hot dog stand - best hot dog I've ever had at any ballpark, big city hot dog stand. Check out Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations Vancouver episode -- we followed his lead and he did us right!

Go to Vancouver -- our dollar went a long way, the people are happy and friendly, the food is good, and if you come from a big overwhelming city like Phoenix, it is a refreshing reminder that there are still cities that can be big and little at the same time.

  • Liked — Location, cleanliness and design, excellent bath, comfy bed!
  • Disliked — If I had to be picky, the construction next door but I woudn't hesitate to return.

Started here for business, 3 nights. Usually stay at the Four Seasons (literally opposite), so thought I would check out the Metropolitan for once. A lot of my review is in direct comparison to the Four Seasons.

Room: Outstanding. Very modern rooms, decent size. Exquisite bathroom. Only downside was that the desk wasn't very big and the view wasn't great.

Service: Really can't fault it. At the time, they had a special promotion for employees of my company that included various benefits (the only one I can remember is free movie). Had the room service - decent food and service.

Food: I didn't eat at the Diva restaurant, however, it does come highly recommended.

Facilities: Decent gym, however, really doesn't compare to the Four Seasons in terms of wow factor (high ceilings, inside and outside pool, service, etc...). Didn't try much else out.

Location: Great. Right next to my offices (HSBC). Within walking distance to Vancouver's best shops, bars and restaurants.

I stayed in the Metro in May 08 for business - I travel to USA and Canada each year at this time - and having a bad experience in 2007 staying at the Sheraton which was awful.

The Metro was in a great location, I could walk to ,my meetings at the Australian consulate and other meetings in town, and also had lots of great restaurants nearby and shops across the road. I needed to use the meetings facilities with pretty short notice - the conference staff were exceptional- booked a room, arranged signs in the foyer, met my meeting guests and provided catering with very little notice and exceptional professionalism. I posted packages, sent faxes and even found good Australian wine to take ot a function on their recommendation.

And hey, this place is worth staying just to use the pool!

All in all I will DEFINITELY be back at the Metro in May 09. I've found my home in Vancouver
