“Great Location and good service (a bit expensive)”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 27, 2012

We stayed here in the summer for a long weekend stay. I really liked the location, generally at a walking distance from the main attractions in Vancouver. Remember that Vancouver gets very expensive in summer and especially for long weekends, so you have to plan in advance and kind of weight price and location carefully. You can have always something better, but you will pay for it.
This hotel is just outside the downtown core, so we did not need to take transportation to go to the center. At night, of course there are funny people around, but Vancouver is a very cosmopolitan place, as you might know. Despire this I never felt like in danger.
No breakfast, did not have any meal at the hotel, not sure whether there is even the opportunity.
We had a room for 4, at a high floor if not the top. No complaints on cleanliness or service.
Of course this is not a boutique hotel, so expect carpets and furniture with a 15 year of history.
We got parking, underground, for something like 20 dollars a day.
Overall, a good compromise for you weekend in Vancouver. If you can go closer to downtown, but you will end up paying much more than the ~200$ a day we paid.

Dear latakia from Milan Italy,

Grazie per aver scelto il nostro hotel! I am delighted to see that you found our hotel location convenient and services satisfactory. In addition, I am happy to hear that you had a great stay in downtown Vancouver. Our city is most beautiful during the summer months, thus rooms rate may get a little high. However, we have numerous promotions and packages that are at a great value. By staying centrally in downtown, it definitely offers many advantages in visiting attractions, shopping, and dining. Once again, thank you for sharing your comment. We hope to welcome you back in summer of 2013.

Sincerely, Shannon Gu + Best Western Plus Downtown Vancouver Team

Location was ok, but with downtown comes a little of the dodginess eg questionable characters hanging out on street corners day & night. Not as close to shopping & restaurant areas as I would have liked. Also sky train is such a great way to get around this city but the nearest stop is a few blocks away.

We were here as part of a group of 9 people & 2 babies booking 5 rooms for between 2-4 nights each. We worked out that this hotel has a significant heating problem. 2 rooms moved to try & resolve, but in short, the heating blows warm air, then alternates blowing cold air. Makes it extremely uncomfortable to sleep through the night & maintain consistent temperature. Several calls & discussions with maintenance didn't seem to resolve the issue. But 1 of the rooms appeared to have a brand new unit & they had no issues. Rooms which had questionable units 504, 404, 412 & can't remember the other numbers. The beds are comfortable but I am rating sleep quality & rooms as poor as we all woke several times during the night trying to deal with temperature issues.

It should be noted that staff were always very professional, helpful & polite. (but I'd also find it difficult to find many Canadians in the service industry who aren't great! Makes travelling here so easy!). Room 902 was very small especially when a pack & play was required here.

Another significant positive was the rooms were very clean - esp the bathrooms!

Dear loulou112Australia of Australia,

Thank you for choosing to stay with us and taking the time to share your recent experience with us. We are happy to host you and your party during you visit to Vancouver. I am pleased to learn that overall your stay with us had been enjoyable, noting our professional and helpful service team members complimented by our high cleanliness standards, of which included our guest bathrooms. However though, I was dismayed to learn that your experience was diminished due to a guest room environmental control issue.

Upon further investigation of your experience, I learned that we aimed to improve your experience through a number of steps, including as you recall, liaising with our Maintenance team members to ensure that all of your guest room amenities were in correct working order. Unfortunately, we were unable to rectify the environmental control issue and did offer to relocate you to rooms where all the amenities were in service correctly. As hoteliers, providing a comfortable night’s rest is our primary goal and do apologize for not being able to exceed your expectations in this regard.

I have reached out to our suppliers to help address your issue. I am happy to report that the hotel will be upgrading all of our heating, ventilation and air conditioning units to the newer ones as your party experienced in one of our other guest rooms. This will ensure a more consistent environment to be maintained for you and all of our future guests’ enjoyment.

I understand that you will be returning back to us for a return visit. I do look forward to redeeming ourselves and to helping ensure that your stay will be more positively memorable. Again, I do thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. I invite you to reach out to me should I be of any assistance prior to and during your next stay with us.

Yours in hospitality,

Shannon Gu

We were looking for something central and convenient to all tourist sites and transport whilst on a family trip with kids aged 11 and 14 around North America. With its helpful, friendly staff, large clean rooms and great inhouse amenities (swimming pool, gym, laundry and restaurant). Once we sorted out our booking confusion (I will never use Expedia again !) everything about this hotel exceeded our expectations.

After Seattle, Vancouver was our scheduled 3 night stop for New Year so decided to book this accommodation early. Booked because Expedia offered an inhouse complimentary New Years Eve party and we weren't keen to take our kids out on the streets in a strange city on New Years eve. When I contacted the hotel to check if children were allowed to attend the party they knew nothing about it it was and Expedia mistake and when I contacted Expedia they wanted to know nothing about a cancellation as we had booked on a special non - refundable rate and they were not interested. The hotel (Luke and Coco) on the other hand were most helpful (even though this was no fault of their own) and offered to refund directly but we decided to keep our booking as we were offered a complimentary breakfast as compensation and prices at other similar rated establishments in the area had risen due to demand. We were originally scheduled to arrive in Vancouver via Amtrak - Cascades (another reason for choosing this hotel location) but we ended up keeping our hire car from Seattle and driving across the border the hotel was most helpful in assisting with parking.

Highly recommend this establishment, book direct or the Best Western site.

We recently stayed for 3 nights at this downtown property. We chose it for it's location, indoor parking, and overall good "vibes" from our many previous visits over the last 10 years.
We came away with this:
The staff is efficient and courteous, the foyer and reception area are inviting and spotless, and the elevators are secured by door "keys" and clean.
Our room was "airy", clean, and fresh, as was the bathroom. Hot water was "instant" and with healthy pressure. Heating and A/C were efficient and non-intrusive.
Breakfast in the on-site "White Spot" restaurant was well prepared and served promptly, and with a smile.
Would we go back? YOU BETCHA

Room Tip: We had a corner room on the 9th floor. Great views to the West and to the South. Traffic sounds wer...

From the moment we arrived for a two night stay until the last day, we had a wonderful time. We especially appreciated the care and attention for our dog. He loved his ammenities! The hotel is absolutely spotless and service terrific. We attended two concerts, went to the dog parks, and enjoyed the White Spot food and service. We always felt it was a hassle coming from Victoria and finding a great, reasonably priced hotel and very good dog accomodation. Best Western Plus has solved our problem. Thanks to all of the staff.

Dear dalejoan from Victoria,

Thank you very much for choosing Best Western Plus Downtown Vancouver for your concert events. We are delighted to see that you and your dog had an enjoyable stay. Being a pet friendly hotel, we truly believe that every single pet we welcome should be treated like any hotel guests where there is a proper bed for them to sleep on, bowls for food/ water/treats, a bag dispenser for all the outdoor washroom needs, and of course a map that highlights nearby pet-friendly places to go including off-leash parks that are within walking distance.

Once again, thank you for sharing your experience at our hotel. And we hope you and your dog will come back to visit us again soon.

Sincerely, Shannon Gu + Best Western Plus Downtown Vancouver Team.

I'd have to say I had an excellent experience in this hotel. It's situated in the middle of Downtown Vancouver, so it's very easy to get around. We didn't deal with the staff much, but from what little dealings we had with them they were very friendly. The room was not only very clean but quite modern, and the pricing was quite affordable. I would highly recommend this hotel.

Dear JacksonCooper,

Thank you very much for your recommendation of our hotel. We are very excited to see that you had a great stay at our hotel. It is comments like yours that motivates our staff to serve our guests better and exceeds their expectations. In addition, thank you for recognizing that we have clean rooms. Majority of our housekeeping team have been with our hotel since we opened in 1997, and they are very proud of the rooms they service. To better serve our guests in the future, we will soon be certified by Best Western Chain with I CARE 2 training, which is a program that targets an even cleaner environment by using a UV wand to sanitizing high touch areas in our guest rooms.

Once again, thank you for your comment and we would love to welcome you back in the near future!

Sincerely,

Shannon Gu + Best Western Plus Downtown Vancouver Team

I recently visited Vancouver with family and was overall pleased with my stay.

Pros:
- Within walking distance to some downtown attractions (stores, restaurants, malls)

- Very helpful front desk loaned us an umbrella and went out of their way to exchange USD for CAD

- Shuttle bus service provided (we were unable to use it though because it stops running at 6:30pm)

Cons:
- Parking is $20. This isn't terrible, but they seem to try and hide the cost of parking. Even when I called Best Western's 1-800 number they could only tell me there was a "nominal parking fee."

- Breakfast has some sort of confusing coupon deal at their in-house restaurant. A review that I had read earlier said you could eat there for $5, but the price was higher and less attractive during my visit. I did not partake.

Overall a good stay and recommended!

Dear Allan E from Anacortes Washington.

On behalf of the Best Western Plus Downtown Vancouver team, thank you kindly for the thorough comment on your recent stay at our property. We are very happy to see you had an enjoyable stay and found our services and amenities to your satisfaction.

Due to our downtown location, our hotel does have a parking fee at $20 inclusive of all taxes and fees. However, parking fees in our neighbourhood are general higher than what we charge. I do understand that this is addition cost on travellers’ budget; thus we welcome you to visit the packages we offer as majority of them do include parking as well as breakfast.

Once again, thank you for your feedback and would love to welcome you back soon.

Sincerely, Shannon Gu + Best Western Plus Downtown Vancouver Team
