Finding seafood in Vancouver isn't that hard - finding REALLY good seafood coupled with great service is like searching for a needle in a haystack. They've mastered that combo at Pink Peppercorn. My only regret in posting this is that it becomes a packed out restaurant, but I think everyone needs to support great places like this that deserve the business.
We're Vancouverite "foodies" who live on the east side, and we were thrilled to discover this gem of a seafood restaurant in our neighborhood! This probably isn't a place your hotel concierge will tell you to go , as it's 10-15 mins away from the downtown core, but worth a short cab ride for sure. It's like that special neighborhood place the locals know about and covet because it's ridiculously good and just a perfect match of outstanding, attentive, personable service and delicious west coast seafood.
Some of the menu is a direct crossover from the now closed, iconic seafood restaurant The Cannery, with the chef now at Pink Peppercorn. The classic Cannery Salmon Wellington is always a safe, and uber delicious bet (and a large portion too!) The Warm Prawn and Papaya salad was a rockstar, along with the seafood sharing platters. 1.5 lb lobsters for $31 is a steal compared to downtown $45+ entrees. The portions are good sized, so you won't get a "tiny cube" of fish in this place!Tried three desserts and all were really scrumptious. Our party of 7 drank cocktails and wine, had three courses each, and the bill came to about $65 a person. Even my foodie sister, who has something negative to say about every restaurant, agreed it makes her top five list.
Some say the decor is a bit cheesy, with plastic crabs on nets on the wall and a giant pink shrimp welcoming you in, but I think it's part of it's "kitchy" charm. The tables have nice linens, tasteful glass partitions and soothing blue walls, so the decor is a mix of old school fish house with fancy west coast. The service was probably the most balanced, warm and professional service I've had in ages eating out in Vancouver, and the chef came out later to chat and see how we enjoyed our dinner. That was just the icing on the cake to a great night out!
