My husband and I just returned from a stay at the Wedgewood for our honeymoon. They upgraded our room at no additional cost and gave a beautiful suite with an amazing bathroom and large balcony. Unfortunately, we were next to a couple of rooms being renovated and were awoken every morning (8 AM) to loud noises. However, it only mildly hampered our stay, as everything else was outstanding. Our first night there we ate at the hotel restaurant and were treated very well. They made us special vegetarian dishes that were definitely 5 star meals. We also received complimentary champagne and dessert once the pianist told them we were on our honeymoon! The room was luxurious and the entire staff was overwhelmingly helpful and friendly. I will definitely be staying there again the next time I'm in Vancouver. I'd recommend this to anyone who can afford a little pampering.

My sister and I stayed in this hotel from March 26-28, 2005. We love going to Vancouver for nice little getaways but we would always stay at the Pan Pacific (which is an excellent hotel in the same price range as the Wedgewood, by the way). However, we wanted to try the Wedgewood after reading the good reviews here and it was closer to the Orpheum where we were catching a Keith Urban gig for one night.

We booked a room with 2 beds but were upgraded for free to a suite with one king bed due to renovations going on in the hotel. (Despite the said renovations taking place, it was peaceful during our stay and I couldn't smell paint at all). The suite was divine: clean, spacious and very cozy. The bed was so comfortable! Service was spotless -- staff in general was courteous and helpful. The cookies every night was a nice touch, too.

We didn't dine in the hotel restaurant, but had dinner and lunch at the Italian restaurant next door that had one of the best panini I ever had.

If only the Wedgewood weren't that pricey, I'd stay here over and over again.

Has it Lost its Star Rating?

In February we returned to the Wedgewood Hotel for a four day stay. Our previous stay at the Wedgewood - just prior to them being awarded a rating as a place to stay by Conde Naste - was tremendous. Unfortunately the hotel seems to have lost its star status- or at least that was our experience.

The lobby and the room were needing some care and attention. Obviously the hotel has recognized this as the major problem we experienced was due to renovation. Construction and painting were going on in the room next to ours. A strong smell of paint persisted in our room throughout our four day stay - even over a weekend. When a complaint was made after the first night the staff sent up a machine intended to clean the air, we were told not to be in the room while it was on. We needed to keep the window open when we were in the room resulting in a cold stay. Vancouver was not warm in February. We were not provided with an option of moving rooms - despite this being a four day stay. In addition there was noise throughout the day so a little nap in the afternoon during the holiday was out of the question. Guests should be advised that construction is taking place prior to booking.

The prices of the Wedgewood have risen over the years as the hotel has been discovered. Our experience in 2006 does not support the reputation that the hotel now enjoys. Perhaps the renovations will help to keep the hotel at the top but in the meantime guests should be informed that the construction may impact on their comfort and enjoyment.

Went in with high expectations, primarily from this website, and we were generally quite happy with the Wedgewood. However, if we go back to Vancouver I might try to get a place on the water, instead of in the middle of downtown. On a positive note, the downtown location is within walking distance of both the Seabus to North Vancouver and the Aquabus to Granville Island, not to mention many downtown attractions. However, a downtown location comes with negatives, too, including valet parking, and typical urban core problems like aggressive panhandlers and some pretty undesirable areas within blocks.

The hotel itself was very nice. We got a good rate through the Tourism Vancouver website, and, as promised, it was upgraded to a Junior Suite since one was available. We had requested a room on the "nice" side (see other reviews), but none was available so our room overlooked the back alley. Not a deal breaker for us, since we mostly used the room for sleeping. Very comfortable bed, and a nice shower.

When we were there (March 10 through 14, 2005), the hotel was undergoing some renovations... one of the two elevators was frequently covered with padding inside. Again, no big deal for us. My partner said she heard some construction noise one morning.

The lobby is extremely nice (with a large fireplace), and the bellmen/valets are accommodating and very pleasant. Other than the cost, the valet parking was no problem at all. We called down about 15 minutes before leaving, and the car was always ready and waiting. Front desk staff were knowledgeable, but I felt some of them were a little aloof. Not a lot, but enough to bug me a little. I just didn't feel like all of them went out of their way to be friendly and accommodating despite the small size of the hotel.

Turn down service at night with complementary cookies and bottled water; also a complementary box of chocolates upon arrival and a newspaper every day. The turn down service also refreshed towels and bath room supplies at night if needed... a nice touch. Overall we felt the maid service was above average, but a little spotty at times.

We would definitely recommend the hotel to prospective visitors. It was a very nice place, and not overpriced.

We;ve stayed here twice--once in 2001, as a mini-vacation/2nd honeymoon, and again in December 2004 as a spur of the moment stay--we were driving home from Victoria, BC and decided to spend a night in Vancouver. Both stays were excellent. The hotel is absolutely gorgeous--public areas and the private rooms--tastefully decorated and beautiful. Staff very friendly and quite accomodating, even when we dropped in without reservations. With our honeymoon package we received a lovely piece of Wedgewood porcelain, and both stays we received chocolates and warm cookies in our rooms--also lovely touches like bottled water. This is a truly wonderful hotel in one of my favorite cities. The restaurant is gorgeous, also, and the food is great. Highly recommended.
