“Needs updating!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 24, 2008

I am a Starwood Gold member.. and really try to stay at Starwood properties. This Westin needs updating BAD! Lobby and other public areas were very nice. Location was good (although in hindsight I wish i would've chosen their other property on the water near the park). We had many problems with the rooms (one smelled like urine, another electricity and air didn't work etc). Thankfully the staff worked very hard to make us happy and comfortable and gave us a great upgrade for the last 2 nights and many extras. The conceirge Lisa was very helpful as well. Staff get marks for excellence.. hotel itself needs an upgrade!

We stayed at the Westin Grand for our last night of a two week vacation and we had a wonderful time!

When we went to the jacuzzi we noticed there was a Spa and we asked about it and booked it for both my husband and myself . We both had a wonderful experience...worth every penny and a pefect way to end a vacation!

The hotel enjoys a good location in downtown Vancouver.

Valet parking and concierge services were efficient and smiling.
The reception desk however seemed to be staffed with very young/unexperienced personnel.

Both (DeLuxe) suites allocated were OK (we had booked two) although I found them a bit small considering the 450 sq ft advertised. It looked more like a 350 sq. ft. suite...
We had a (last minute) third person with us, and her bed was prepared on our request (plus they did not charge any supplement).

Our hotel package included breakfast and sparkling wine/strawberries. The first (half bottle of) wine came just after our arrival, but we had to wait (after many phone calls) for the second one to arrive just around 9 PM....

Then we decided to go for dinner at the hotel restaurant, just to hear from the Night Manager that restaurant was closed (it was 9.30 PM!). For a hotel in such a large city as Vancouver is, it was rather surprising...

After some discussions... the Manager on duty offered to give us cab vouchers to go to another place, but we finally stayed at their Lounge which offered a decent but smaller menu.
To make up for the inconveniences, the Manager also offered dessert "on the house"! A good commercial gesture!

We stayed at this hotel for 4 nights. It was excellent in every way.
We had a suite on the 7th floor that overlooked the city. Everything you could possibly want was in our room. The kitchen area was well equipped and with a small supermarket being a block away it was great to just do whatever you wanted. The standard of cleanliness was outstanding and every little detail was thought of. There was a wide choice at breakfast and the staff were all extremely friendly and helpful.
The hotel is very centrally located so you can walk to Gastown,Yaletown,Canada Place, and you are right on Robson Street which is one of the main thoroughfares.
We would definately reccomend this hotel you will not be disappointed

Stayed at the Westin Grand for business over a three day period. Worked out great as I am a usual SPG member so enjoyed staying at this Starwood Property. Hotel is situated in an excellent area downtown Vancouver.
I was told I received an upgrade on arrival being a Plat member but not sure what it would be as all rooms are suites anyways. The only thing I noticed was that I had a small balcony that most other rooms did not. I think only two rooms on each floor will have a small balcony. Meeting rooms were good and customer service was also very good ........no complaints on this end.
Room was plenty big enough with seperate sleeping area and very nice / large bathroom with seperate shower.
As usual Heavenly Bed was just that........had excellent sleeps.
All in all the Westin Grand was an excellent choice and would not hesitate to stay here again not only for its very comfortable rooms but also excellent location.

Just got back from a 7-day stay at the Westin Grand. Had a fabulous experience. As another reviewer recently stated, I can't think of a more convenient location downtown. Cab fare was $30 from the airport and a quick ride. Hotel got our room ready quickly. The room was great for us with a 15- and 18-year old. Loved the kitchenette for snacks and such. Used the grocery store next door every day for bottled water, fresh fruit, etc. Rented a Budget car for two days around the corner from the hotel. All the staff gave great recommendations for restaurants and great directions. Everyone was polite and courteous. Didn't use the restaurant, but did use wireless internet in the room a couple different days. Worked great. Self parking was $21 a day and very smooth, except be warned that the main gate getting in and out doesn't open until 7:00 am. Had to retrieve someone to open it for us. Housekeeping was responsive to our request for extra towels and paper products and kept us well stocked the entire time. Go back in a flash. Loved Vancouver and the Westin Grand!

Nice hotel - nothing exceptional, comfortable 'heavenly' beds and modern furniture. Nice breakfast and very friendly staff. Would stay there again without a problem.
