Pacific Palisades was very disappointing. It is advertised as a 4 star hotel, but I would rate it along the same lines as a Holiday Inn or Best Western. That is my major complaint--we paid for a 4 star hotel and got about a 2.5 or 3. Also, the hotel caters to pet-owners to an excess. It's one thing to simply allow pets at the establishment; it's another to have doggie treats, a dog house and toys (and an unpleasant smell) in the lobby. We asked for a pet-free room, and were told that the pets are allowed anywhere in the hotel, so they can't offer anything pet-free.
Pacific Palisades is WAY overpriced. Including the $27/day parking charge, we paid over $240 for this place. I wouldn't have given a second thought to the price if it had been the quality of a Westin, a Hilton, a Sheraton, even a Doubletree. But it was pretty bad. I will say that the bed was very comfortable, and the service was fine. When we expressed our disappointment that there were no pet-free rooms, we were offered some free ice cream, so that was nice.
Here are the reasons I would NEVER return to Pacific Palisades: 1. POOR QUALITY: Paint was chipping off of the orange-painted desk. The towels were scratchy. The plastic garbage bins and doggie water bowl were from IKEA (the price tags were left on) which seems kind of cheap. A large dent in the wall. 2. CLEANLINESS: There were two large stains on the fabric-covered headboards--gross! Some sort of spray on the back of the door. Toilet was not clean. Mildew between shower tiles. 3. PETS: The lobby smelled, and the most offensive thing was entering our room to find a plastic dog bowl filled with dog biscuits on the desk. And a chewy/squeaky hamburger shaped dog toy. Disgusting.
I suppose that if you cannot leave precious Fifi at home, and if you don't mind cheap accommodations, this would be your dream hotel. But we were hoping for a cleaner, nicer, pet-free environment. Next time, the Westin!
