“Nicest hotel imaginable - just great”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 11, 2010

This is a great hotel. Why stay in a boring chain hotel when this is the same price or cheaper? Beautiful, comfortable rooms. Excellent location (walking distance to the convention centre, and just about everywhere else). We just loved it. The restaurant is OK too, but there are so many other choices within walking distance, including cheap cafe for breakfast and loads of sushi places.

I have stayed at Hotel Le Soleil 6 times now and every time is the same, fantastic. Nestled in the heart of downtown it is literally steps from everything. The rooms are clean, sizable and very comfortable and the staff is second to none. I highly recommend it!

After receiving a very good rate for 3 nights at this hotel, and based on the positive reviews, I decided to stay here based on the location.

The location is very central - right in the heart of the commercial area of downtown Vancouver. It is a business area and there aren't many places nearby for a snack or a cheap meal on the weekend... you'll have to walk a few blocks for anything during non-business hours, but things are still that far. It is 2 blocks to the SkyTrain. It can be a bit noisy late at night from a few nearby bars...but this may be unavoidable in downtown Vancouver.

This hotel advertises itself as a 4 star hotel...it comes close, but it's better described as a theme hotel. The hotel has a Louis XIV(French Sun King) motif that is a bit over the top - with golden sun logos everywhere and a phony ornateness on a level that can make one feel out of place at first.

If the rooms were in the layout of a conventional hotel room, they would be quite large, spacious and comfortable. They're not though... the bathroom/closet/bar area is in the centre of your living space - dividing it in two, leaving you with a small living room area and a separate very small bedroom area. If you like a large hotel room, this would not be a good choice. The bedroom area is barely large enough for two single beds or one queen sized bed. This works well if you're there by yourself or a close couple, but not so well otherwise.

Both tiny rooms feature 42 inch flat screen TVs...which sounds great, but both rooms are also too small for such large displays - especially when they don't have HDTV, making the picture quality look pretty horrible. The bathroom was elegantly decorated, though it only had a shower - no bath tub. I find it odd that a 4 star hotel would only have a shower. The bar area had a kettle in addition to a coffee maker...as well as hot chocolate, which non-coffee drinkers will appreciate! You can also use the mini-bar fridge to keep your own drinks cold.

For all of the quirks, everything was in good condition and very clean. Free wireless internet is a huge plus as well - though I didn't try it. The service from the front desk and the maids was good - we were up to our room very quickly on check in, and all of the other workers always greet you with a smile and a hello...makes you feel welcome.

Overall, I would stay here again for a good rate, especially if I was by myself or with my partner. I would not recommend this hotel to families with kids, or for anyone bothered by small rooms.

This is a very classy hotel that is rather tucked away in the central financial district of town. The Le Soleil is relatively new but it was built with an early 20th century artistry. The lobby is warm and plush and our room was equally attractive and comfortable. The staff was very courteous and friendly. The location of the hotel was perfect for us as we like to walk and the concierge was very helpful by giving us advice as to the best walking routes around the city.
We look forward to a return visit to this hotel.

The hotel is not too costy, small, quiet and they have great service. There is a separate closed space in the rooms so if you want to watch TV at night, you will not disturb your spouse since it closes off with pocket doors. It's elegantly designed in gold tones and nicely set up. There is wireless access that even goes down to the Copper Chimney (wonderful food) restaurant below. The service is top notch and they are very helpful with reservations, travel arrangements etc. It's very close to everything you require and not far to walk for businesss meetings.

I checked into Le Soleil after a horrible experience with another "hotel" during the 2010 Olympics (see my other contributions) so I was very relieved that there was a suite available for that night. My stay made for a wonderful ending point for a great Olympic experience.

I have stayed at Le Soleil several times in recent years, it was always been consistently terrific for service, cleanliness and ambiance.

It is a smallish, boutique hotel wedged into a small building on Hornby st but space is used very efficiently and I did not feel cramped in the surroundings.

Overall, great value and wonderful experience!

Hotel Le Soleil is exactly that, if you want to get away from the what I call the "big boys" of the hotel world Hyatt, Sheraton, Marriott, etc. etc. This is a great place to stay. The location is pretty good, while it is centrally located in downtown it is kind of tucked away from the hub bub of all the nightlife so there's a great balance between feeling in the middle of downtown and yet have some distance form it. The shopping center in downtown is just a few minutes walk, and so is Robson street, the Vancouver Art gallery, and there is a Tim Hortons just a few block away which is a major plus. The Staff was friendly, and very knowledgeable, they help make the hotel a great one. All the rooms in the hotel are suites, it was huge it had a bedroom separate from the sitting room. There was free wifi in the hotel which is another plus because even the chains don't have that. The bed it self was big and comfortable.
Overall this is a small, quaint, and charming little hotel with great value and good location, so it's a great alternative to the chain hotels this is THE place to stay in Vancouver.
