“The place to stay in Vancouver”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 7, 2012

Location, quality accommodation and quality staff make the Pan Pacific hotel a good choice for a stay in Vancover. A superb position in Canada Place does not make the hotel complacent, with the staff making every effort to make our stay special. We stayed for two nights prior to a road trip onto Vancouver Island then around the Rockies, and then for one night prior to an Alaskan cruise with Holland America. They even stored some of our bags during our road trip. It may be a bit pricey compared to other hotels in the location, but to my mind it is worth every penny for the views and friendly staff.

The Pan Pacific is a huge hotel with conference facilities, which, on first arrival, felt a bit impersonal. Reception staff weren't particularly welcoming but the concierge was excellent and very helpful. As others have said, the hotel is in a perfect location, easy to reach by train from Vancouver airport and ideally situated for tourist attractions. We stayed in a harbour view room which had a fantastic view of the harbour. The room was spotless with a huge television and a supremely comfy bed! An underpass goes direct from the hotel to a food court, and this was very convenient for picking up breakfast. Following comments about Internet charges, I joined the free loyalty programme (Global Hotel Alliance (GHA)) before I arrived, which gave us complimentary Internet access for the duration of our stay. Very much enjoyed our visit to the Pan Pacific and would definitely try to stay here again for the location, views and quality of accommodation.

As my title suggests, there are THREE wonderful and great aspects to this property:

1) LOCATION: not only is it located above and next to the Convention Center and the Cruise Terminal (I actually stayed here for none of these things -- just a mere family vacation), but it's walking distance from so very very much --- restaurants, stores, waterfront, etc. And with all the activity around the area, I never felt overwhelmed by lots of other tourists for the Convention or Cruise.

2) We booked a corner room (actually, a regular room AND a corner room connecting), and the view was SPECTACULAR. Watch sea planes take off and land right in front of the hotel; see the Lion Heads and the Grouse Mountain Gondola off in the distance; and wonder at the sunset between the skyline and the mountains. See wonderful water views and mountain views at the same time!

3) We booked this hotel with a 50% second room rate including breakfast, and we thought it was perfect for what we wanted and needed. The corner room had a view that made you want to stay in the hotel room. And the room itself was extremely spacious, too. Everything was tastefully decorated and clean and (seemingly) new.

Service was good. Definitely above average. The only thing I'd say this hotel lacks is an outdoor presence: We rented a car, and paid for in-and-out valet parking. But whenever we pulled up in front of the hotel, we'd have to wait a minute or two or flag someone down in order for them to come and take the car. Even when we first arrived with our luggage, we had to wave someone down to come help us. Perhaps it's because there are many people arriving for reasons other than the hotel, so they wait until they know you're here for the hotel before helping -- or they just didn't have an efficient system in place while we were there. It was not a deal breaker, but it was a surprise considering how well the hotel seemed to operate otherwise.

By the way, for kids, our package also included a movie, popcorn, milk, cookies, and soft drinks for each of the kids.... GREAT!

My father ("Grandpa") is going to be in Vancouver next year for a convention, and before checking out, he wanted to reserve the exact same room for next year!! That's how much we loved the room.

Room Tip: In my opinion, paying for the upgrade to a Corner Room (especially if you are booking more rooms wit...

We chose this hotel as it was based in a central Vancouver location and literally at the cruise ship terminal. The location turned out to be excellent not just for cruise ship access which is a simply going down in the elevator but for town access and also the main point to pickup Hop on Hop off buses and free shuttles to Capilano Bridge. Our room was excellent but did smell of cigarette smoke. It is obviously a problem here as there are warning notices of fines in the rooms to disuade guests from smoking. The hotel is a conference location. Staff at the hotel were excellent.

Room Tip: Be prepared to pay a little extra to get a room with a good harbour view and choose a higher room.

OK, so we are staying here at this very minute.

The hotel is really nice if you like to just arrive, get to your room, and sort out your own agenda.
There is not much in the way of interaction between yourself and the staff here at Pan Pacific. Don't get me wrong, if this is what you want from a holiday or a one-night stop-over from a cruise, it is perfect.

The hotel is designed inside to look like a cruise ship interior (I think) and it is really clean and laid out really well to find everything you want. Although we haven't eaten at the Five Sails restaurant, it does look good but will probably come with a high price tag. We have had a buffet here on the Saturday evening and the chef was a great guy to talk to but it cost us a fortune for something that kind of resembled a canteen dinner!

The views from the deluxe harbour rooms are fantastic. Truly gorgeous looking out over the sea. At 9pm every evening there is a sound of a gun that goes off without fail, so if you are an early sleeper just be mindful it might wake you up. There are usually large cruise ships arriving early in the morning that make the whole room shudder and the sound of the sea planes taking off at 6.40am is like a regular alarm clock.

OK, we are now printing our boarding passes for tomorrow. It costs a lot of money for just about 20 minutes access to the internet in the business room, and to use the printer is a joke!!! It cost $4 to print four pieces of paper, and the paper is not standard A4 size so it will cost more than you think to just print a few pages so watch out. We have already paid nearly $50 for a week's worth of internet access for the room so this additional charge is a not funny.

If you want a really nice room, this place is OK. If you want a friendly and personal touch to your stay in Vancouver - we suggest the Wedgewood Hotel on Hornby Street where we spent a lot of our time and money. Better spent there because at least they knew who we were when we walked into the hotel! Got to go, otherwise I will get charged another $20 to write anything else - Ridiculous.

Thank you for taking the time to post your detailed review on Trip Advisor.

We were pleased that, in general, you enjoyed your arrival experience and found our accommodation clean and comfortable. It is also a nice to read that you enjoyed the views from your guestroom despite the harbour activities which are part of the overall experience but which some people find disruptive.

Although there are charges for internet use, we do offer guests’ complimentary printing of boarding passes in our guest internet centre.

We always appreciate receiving feedback from our guests, whether positive or suggestions for improvement and have forwarded your review to our Management Team for their review and discussion.

We thank you for selecting the Pan Pacific Vancouver for your stay in Vancouver and hope to have another opportunity to welcome you back.

My wife and I stayed here 19 years ago and, when we had a chance to visit Vancouver again, we decided to stay at the Pan pacific. This time, we upgraded our room (#1116) to give us a wonderful harbor view. It is spectacular!

But, for $351/nt, including brekfast, it is a bit expensive.

After disembarcing from our Alaska cruise, we walked from customs to the hotel elevators where a bellman took our bags directly to our room. This was at 10 am, 5 hours before anticipated.

The only downside was the need to hold the toilet handle down for a long time or, flush three times. As I did this, it brought back my memory of the same problem many years ago.

However, that was a minor issue. All the other amenities far outweighed it.

The beds are, probably, the most comfortable we have ever slept on. The bedding is equally as comfortable.

The hotel is in a great location, i.e., within walking distance to Gastown, numerous restaurants, the afore mentioned harbor, public transportation and shopping.

The room has a HUGE LG flat screen TV; nominal cost internet connection, massive closet and many more amenities.

Room Tip: Go for the extra money and get a room with a view of the harbor. Wach the ships and seaplanes.

Spent four days in this hotel after upgrading to a corner room overlooking Vancouver hoarbour and downtown Vancouver. The upgrade was well worth it especially if you are using the hotel as more than a sleepover. Service was the usual Canadian excellence and everyone was very friendly and efficiant.
Very difficuilt to find any downsides unless you want the gagetery of the hotel opposite (pointless for me, I can manage to close my own curtains without gadgets)
Great Hotel

Room Tip: Pay the upgrade for a harbour view corner room
