“Fabulous Hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2013

My husband and I spent a romantic evening at the Fairmont Pacific Rim on Dec. 30. It was the second year in a row that we spent that night there (it's a special night for us), and we were treated to a surprise bottle of champagne and chocolate covered strawberries to celebrate. The hotel is beautiful - Asian-inspired and very comfortable yet modern and clean rooms. The free car service is a particular bonus - the BMWs certainly surpass a standard cab! The location is excellent, as well. My only complaint is the very strong scent that wafts through the lobby - it's a bit overpowering. But that is minor. This hotel is now one of my absolute favorites.

Room Tip: The soaking tubs are very nice!

Recently I was in Vancouver for business and stayed at the Pacific Rim. Admittedly I assumed that it was going to be a typical Fairmont, but I was blown away by this hotel. It's modern, high tech and offers amazing service.

What I loved about this hotel were the upgrades in the rooms from being able to choose various lighting at the push of a button, curtains that open and close by a remote and tv's in the mirrors of the bathroom

I am a bathroom snob and this bathroom was awesome. Separate shower and tub as well as a separate toilet area. My favorite was double sinks with the tv in the mirror.

The lounge downstairs turns into a hot spot for happy hour so plan to stop by for a martini and emjoy the awesome ambiance of the lobby.

The staff is so accommodating and the service is fantastic. Don't miss out.

We had a wonderful stay at the Fairmont Pacific Rim over Christmas. We stayed on Fairmont Gold. You most definitely get value upgrading to Fairmont Gold with a deluxe breakfast and evening hors d'hoeuvres. I highly recommend this hotel. It is certainly the best luxury hotel in Vancouver. The service was outstanding including the Concierge on Fairmont Gold, as well as the service we experienced both through In Room Dining and the Lobby Lounge. I also highly recommend a spa treatment in the Willow Stream Spa. I have stayed in and toured most hotels and spas in downtown Vancouver, and this property tops them all! Enjoy your stay here!!

We spent two night at the Pac Rim, following a week's skiing in Whistler. The hotel concierge looked after all our requirements in a friendly and extremely efficient manner. The rooms were beautifully appointed and extremely modern, but it took a while to get used to the light buttons. The TV set into the bathroom mirror added some excitement for the kids. We had one room service meal, booked through the room's ipad system, which arrived on time and was of an excellent standard. on the second evening we ate in the hotel's lobby, accompanied by beautiful live music. Georgia, our waitress, looked after us very well and was friendly, without being intrusive. Breakfast was reasonable, with a fairly limited selection, but there were more cost effective solutions within a short walk. Overall a good base to explore downtown Vancouver and we would choose to stay here next time.

Room Tip: Take a room as high up as possible to benefit from the great views. We were on the 14th floor, but w...

We stayed at the Fairmont Hotel Pacific Rim for two nights in mid-September 2012 after disembarking from a cruise. Not only is this hotel incredibly convenient to the cruise port at Canada Place, it also has great service, a beautiful view, and designer interiors.

OVERALL
Special occasion? First time in Vancouver? Just a fan of great hotels? Then the Fairmont Pacific Rim is for you. From the moment we walked into the hotel to the minute we checked out, our experience at the Fairmont Pacific Rim was welcoming and memorable. We were there for a special occasion (my birthday), it was my first time in Vancouver and I am a fan of great hotels—the Fairmont Pacific Rim delivered.

WHAT I LIKED:

NINA PHAN: I have to call out the Front Desk associate that checked us in as the most spectacular part of a four star experience. Nina was incredibly welcoming to us and made my birthday extra special by making us feel at home. She took care of our luggage, getting us checked in, and called us as we were exploring the city to let us know that our room was ready when we were. We had developed such a great relationship with her in such a short amount of time that she hugged us when we left. She also arranged for a lovely birthday treat from the incredible little quick service restaurant at the hotel. She is a great guest service asset to the Fairmont Pacific Rim and I hope her management recognizes this and rewards her appropriately.

DESIGN: Everything about the hotel is as though it is out of a coffee table book. In fact, there is a book about the design of the hotel (available in every room, at a small price if you want to take it home and brag). The bathroom is perfection with a shower that you’d dream to have at home and a deep soaking tub you could fall asleep in (don’t fall asleep in it though). Oh, and the iPad room controls are really fun!

VIEW: Rooms facing the water have one of the most beautiful views available in Vancouver. Water planes landing, the hold International Broadcast Center for the Vancouver Olympics (now part of the Convention Center), and the natural beauty of Canada’s western coast are all part of the ambience of the room.

WHAT COULD HAVE BEEN BETTER:
I’m stretching here, because this is one of my absolute favorite hotels in the world, but here are a couple very minor things…

CONCIERGE: The concierge is good, not great. They were a bit stuffy and formal, we preferred dealing directly with Nina. We were convinced she could help us with whatever we needed.

That’s really it—we absolutely loved this hotel and wouldn’t want to stay anywhere else in Vancouver.

FINAL RECOMMENDATIONS: It’s a lovely walk to Stanley Park, about 20 minutes or so away. On a great day—which we were lucky enough to have—it will make you want to move to Vancouver. If Nina is around, ask for her to help you—she’s amazing!

Room Tip: Get a room with a view. It might be more, but you would regret it if you don’t do it.

There are 3 Fairmont hotels in Vancouver, Canada - all different. The Fairmont Pacific Rim is the newest, is sleek, modern and right on the waterfront. Many rooms have great views of the harbor and the mountains to the west. (The other two Fairmont hotels are the Hotel Vancouver (classic luxury) and the Fairmont Waterfront Hotel (that splits the difference between the other two)).our room was on the Gold (Club) floor and though smallish was comfortable and in good shape. Service was friendly and good -from check in to check out. The only difficulty was the totally electronic system that controlled lights and drapes; you could barely read what to press in good daylight and when the room was darkened or dark it was pure guesswork- the system was a classic engineer's dream with no practicality. But in every other way the hotel was fine.

Room Tip: Ask for high floor with a harbor view. Go for the Gold (Club) Floor if you can.

This hotel really does prove the adage that you can't judge a book by its cover. It is a stunning property with wood panelling decor, clean lines and design, and gorgeous views, but the service is really...well, bizarrely inconsistent for a 5 star. On arriving at the hotel it took the valet and luggage team about 10 minutes to get themselves sorted and grab our bags. Check in took over 20 minutes as there was only one person at the desk, despite it being check-in time. Breakfast the next morning was strange as they completely forgot one of our orders, despite it being clearly noted on the room service form. They did make it up the next day by giving us a free breakfast, but that too did not quite work out right as we had to explain the story to someone new. Internet was not free despite my membership in the president's club (which is supposed to give you free access). Additionally the concierge desk did not answer the phone despite repeated calls. This is really a shame as the room was lovely with a great view over the harbor, coffee maker in-room and all the amenities one would expect. Unfortunately my second bad run in with a Fairmont and my last stay with this chain. Better off at the Hotel Georgia which redefines good service.
