“Excellent property, superb service”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 22, 2013

Jean-Michelle at the front desk was superb. Friendly, patient, helpful and very professional. The property was very good, however Jean-Michelle made the stay warm and personal. We had a corner suite and an additional room - both were in excellent condition.

Our final destination of our trip across Canada was Vancouver. For two nights we've stayed at L'Hermitage Hotel in Downtown Vancouver. Robson Street is just around the corner and other tourist attractions such as Gastown and Canada Place are located at walking distance, so very convenient.
We arrived earlier than checkin time and the room was not ready yet. No problem, because we could see Vancouver in the mean time. And the hotel would call us when the room was ready. Unfortunately there was no call and we had to visit the front desk ourselves. No remark "excellent" on service....... The room was very nice and not small at all (we've booked a petite room). Every you'll need is in the room, even a Nespresso coffee machine!
L'Hermitage Hotel is a good hotel in Vancouver if you want to stay in the Downtown area. Rooms are spacious and the valet parking in also convenient.

I loved this hotel, and would stay there again, it had the comfiest king size bed I've ever slept in, the staff were friendly and efficient, it actually had a pool you could do laps in which I loved, a modern clean gym room and breakfast was excellent!

Everyone was very customer focused. Great service from everyone. Raymond suggested Joe Forte for dinner, excellent sea food, wonderful outside dinning area, nice piano player, amazing oysters, nice walk from hotel, highly recommend. Cab fare from airport to hotel 33$. ATM machines at Vancouver airport are the best way to get can $ from US. Had a one bedroom boutique room, very nice balcony off bedroom and nice electric fireplace. 3 floors of building is the hotel, the rest is residential folks. Complimentary bikes were outstanding, great bikes, and they provided waters, locks, backpacks, and bike map. Ride along water front and around Stanley park and back was best part of my vacation. Took around 3 hours at very slow pace and lots of stops for pics. Reserve early they just have the two bikes. The fruit and cheese platter in the lounge was the best I've ever had but a little pricey at 25$. Vancouver airport has a lounge inside international section, past security, that has unlimited food and drink for 35$ for two hours, seems like a good deal considering the airport price for a beer. Construction noise not to bad however I was there over a weekend. Location of hotel was perfect: easy walk to Robinson street for shopping, gas town, china town, and water front area's. Stayed two nights in June. Had a room on the 5th floor which was nice getting morning paper at lounge and going to pool/hot tub all on the 5th floor.

Let me start by saying we chose this hotel based on the glowing reviews. In some ways, I agree with the reviews, but in other ways, I was disappointed.

We arrived on 6/21 following a long flight from the east coast and a four hour tour of Vancouver. This was the first stop on an almost 3 week vacation, so we had a lot of luggage. The hotel lobby was nice, although overly laden with perfume or air freshener. My husband who has some breathing difficulty just about had to hold his breath when walking through the lobby. When we arrived, there was no bellman at the front door, so we took our luggage into the lobby ourselves. Check in went smoothly, however we were shocked that no one ever offered to help us with our luggage. There were four people behind the desk who could clearly see us struggling with our luggage, but no one said anything. It would have been very easy for one of them to offer to have the bellman bring our bags up once he got back.

We had a boutique suite (I think that is what it was called). Since it was my husband, teenage daughter and I traveling, this worked well. The rooms were spacious and gave us some privacy. The bathroom was beautiful, though lacking in counterspace. We did not have any issues with the construction noise, although our room looked right out onto it so it was a bit of an eyesore. Beds were very comfortable, however there was a pole in front of the window, so we could never get the curtains to close all the way and constantly had a sliver of daylight sneaking in.

We did have to call several times due to issues with the satellite tv not working in the bedroom. There were never issues in the living room, but it kept going out in the bedroom. The front desk (after the initial checkin) were very helpful. We did use the concierge to book the hop on hop off trolly. While I wish he had talked us out of that (I'll be writing a separate review on that one), he was helpful.

The big thing with this hotel that I did not like was the location. With the exception of the safeway that is around the corner on Robson, it is just not convenient to anything. I think if we were to go back to Vancouver, we would stay closer to the water.

We really enjoyed our stay in L'Hermitage Hotel in Vancouver. Due to its prime location we gave back our hire car on the day we arrived. We then spent 4 days in Vancouver which is really not enough but we made the most of it. The hotel staff were very pleasant and nice. We got a good recommendation one evening for a reggae band which was really good. We also took the free bikes one morning to cycle around Stanley Park which was great. We didn't have breakfast at the hotel as we felt it was a little expensive, and there are so many places to eat in Vancouver. We got the Petit Boutique room which was big enough for us. The bathroom is really big and luxurious which was great. All in all a very pleasant experience for us and we thought it was a good price for a great City Hotel.

We stayed for 4 nights in L'Hermitage. The staff was tremendous and so helpful in every way (booking restaurants, organising medical appointments, long distance phone calls, etc). Absolutely terrific service.

The room was very nice (we didn't have the most expensive option) with a small balcony (unfortunately there wasn't much of a view - actually a construction site).

We were, however, unimpressed with the downtown area (like an earlier reviewer on this hotel site). We weren't prepared for the highrise apartments, mostly utilitarian and ugly, which dominate the skyline. They look cheap and are such a disappointment, given that Vancouver is blessed with such a superb natural environment. Such a shame to ruin it in this way. Downtown architecture, generally speaking, is pretty terrible (e.g. Canada Place). Also noticed lots of down-and-outers on the streets. A trip out to Kitsilano and West Vancouver (UBC) was fabulous, a great contrast to the city centre. Next time we'd stay there and avoid downtown if we could.
