Not realizing accomodations are an issue in the Tofino area this time of year we thought we were pretty fortunate to get a room for the night a few days before our stay. I opened the door and walked into a horrible smell of a moldy, musty basement. I was sure I was on ground level. This odour was supported by my wife and my kids who immediately said, "dad, it smells like old people". No offence to our elderly. I told the young girl and elderly lady, who I assume was the owner, the problem with the room. The elderly lady accompanied me to the room and denied smelling anything. She said it smelled fine. I told her 4 other people didn't agree. She said the carpets had just been cleaned 2 days ago and the room was clean. I told her that was the problem, the carpets had not dried. I also noted the back patio door was open when I initially entered, I realize now it was to assist in drying the carpet. I also believed that was why this room was available, TOO SOON. At $228.00 (tax included) I was not happy and requested another room - no other rooms. I was told it was not her fault, I asked if it was mine?? I was told I could call other resorts. I went to do that and the room had no phone. I was then expected to drop who knows how many quarters into the payphone. I asked for her assistance in calling around and she made one call and told me the area was sold out. I asked for a reduction in the price, she asked me for a new price and I said $100.00. She said no. I told her the room, with its smell was a $20.00 room not a $228.00 (tax included). It was the stinky room or we all sleep in the truck. Kids were tired, wife was starting to cry, I was prepared to sleep in the rain forest, with a better smell, but decided to keep the family happy and suffered.

I will never return to Tofino again, it was a horrible experience. It is a black mark on our otherwise wonderful west coast tour. GOOD LUCK ORCA RESORT!!

We stayed in the Orca Lodge in mid-July. Arrived in Tofino late in the evening, with no accommodation booked. The Orca Lodge was a little above our accommodation budget for our trip, but we were so glad to get a room.
We were even happier when we saw what we had booked in to! The Orca Lodge was only open 2 weeks when we got there. The room was perfect, spacious, comfortable, good kitchenette facilities, lovely bathroom, all pristine clean.
One of the Orca Lodge's finest qualities was Monique in reception. Her happy, smiling face and entirely amiable personality made any dealings with her a pleasure. Monique made recommendations to us for places to go, things to do, and places to eat, along with the necessary reservations. Each recommendation was perfect.
The location of the Orca Lodge, a little from the main thoroughfares in Tofino, means that it is peaceful, and a great night's uninterrupted sleep can be had. A stone's throw from Chesterman Beach. Ideal!
The Orca lodge may have been slightly above out budget, but worth every penny!

Filthy, full of clutter all over the main building. dark and dingy rooms with old beds and bedding...we checked for bites in the morning. Also the people running the place are not willing to provide a refund when they totally dont live up to their promises.

We were told that there was a little building going on out back. Turns out the entire place was a 20 hour a day construction zone. We could have lived with it as we had prepaid 6 nights and the rickety motel refused to refund us any money even though we wanted to leave after the first night. It took 3 days to get a hold of the owner and when finally approached she brushed us off saying "you paid your money and you took a chance". It took us 3 years to save up for that vacation.
