Ocean Village is a true gem. We were blessed to choose this resort and Tofino BC for a much needed vacation from NYC. We booked an upper suite (the only accommodation available) and it fit our tight knit family of three perfectly! After meeting other guests and talking to the superb staff, we learned that families have been coming to this resort for generations and the summer books up a year in advance. We were just lucky that our requested days fit exactly in a slot created by other guests. The cabins are immaculate and house many amenities - wine glasses, a tea pot, cutting boards, cooking knives and cookware, ceramic plates and bowls and organic locally produced bath products. As this is the beach and cabins are wooden, you could expect some insect friends. To our surprise, not a cobweb could be found. The grounds are impeccably maintained by a young staff who are polite, hardworking and extremely well mannered. The sunset brings everyone together at the beach for viewing and multiple camp fires dot the sand into the evening. There are many great options in town for restaurant meals, but the highlight for us was cooking simple fish-based (local, of course) meals on the communal gas grills (where lots of guys gathered at 6 most nights to do the same). All this and the setting is draw dropping - evergreen trees, soft sand, tidal pools with mussels, sea anenomes and multi-colored starfish and a sunset each night that reminds you how special life is. We hope to return.

This was my first time staying at the Ocean Village Resort and will definitely not be my last! When we arrived the check in was flawless the staff were very friendly. The convienence of being able to drive up to your own private cabin was fantastic as traveling with a family there is always lots to pack. After finally getting setlled we did a tour of the resort and it was simply gorgeous. The Cabins and grounds are spotless . Being located right on the beach was fantastic for the kids and was hours of entertainment. If the weather isn't in your favour there is an indoor pool and hottub that looks like it has been recently renovated. The drive to the town of Tofino was less than 10 minutes and also a 5 minute walk from a quaint coffee shop and icecream store. The Ocean Village resort is the perfect place for people wanting a relaxing getaway (With or without the kids!) and who truly want to experience an authentic West Coast holiday!

Like the title says the location could not be any better, right on Mackenzie Beach. We were there for a wedding and that went very well, we stayed for 3 nights. The room was up to date and very clean, we also had a perfect view of the ocean. It a 5 minute drive to Tofino and a short walk to Long Beach. If you want to know why I gave it a 3/5 read below.

The only reason I am giving this a 3 instead of a 5 is because of a staff mix up. We had reserved for 6 people over a year before the wedding, when we called 6 month beforehand to confirm everything was in order we were told they had booked us in a 1 bedroom cabin (Max 4 people). We tried to get them to switch us but everything else was booked... They were NOT flexible and told us the max they could fit is 5 due to fire code... having already paid the deposit and our plane tickets we were finally able to get them to allow it. When we got there they had not set up the room for 6 people to stay in at all. We had to go to the office and get extra pillows/towels and bedding. Also the rooms only had sets of 4 plates/cups/utensils so that was amusing.... At the end of the day it doesn't seem like a big deal but fitting 6 people in a 1 bedroom cabin for 3 nights was not something I want to be doing when I'm paying over 300$ a night.

Unfortunately I will not be staying here again, there are several different resorts on the beach that I am sure can make a proper reservation.

We have been going to Tofino for 21 years now, each August. If you stay in a lower level suite, beachfront, you have the best access to the grassy area out front, the beach and the picnic table. The upper level suites are not ideal. Bring your bikes, your table-top BBQ for the picnic table, card and board games, bocce, a kite, a frisbee, a soccer ball, lawn chairs, beach campfire treats, skim boards etc. The location and the indoor pool and hot tub make Ocean Village our #1 pick. Suites are clean, kitchens are new (the suites are small-ish but suffice) and we love the Sea Wench hair and soap products in the bathroom. You MUST go to the Tacofino truck for a fish taco or burrito (everything on their menu is superb), go for ice cream, watch the glass blower work and visit Chesterman Beach for an afternoon. Tofino has so much to offer with outdoor excursions but we choose to live on MacKenzie Beach out front, hang out with wonderful friends, walk the dogs in the sun, wind, rain, fog, mist (it is Tofino after all), beachcomb and reconnect as a family.

Room Tip: lower level beachfront suites are the best

My husband and I stayed here right before we got married on Mackenzie Beach and we loved our stay here. We have stayed here once before and we didn't have a newly renovated room (not that it mattered still amazing!) but this time we got a renovated one and it was absolutely beautiful. Color scheme was perfect for a beach room. We especially liked the Sea Wench Shampoo, Conditioner and Body Wash they smelled wonderful and are locally made. Which is huge in our books. The front desk staff were very accommodating, getting us the room we requested months before. The cleaning staff were very helpful and so nice. We didn't get to use the massive bbq's but next time we will.
We would recommend this to anyone!

Room Tip: We stayed in the upper room & lower room and never noticed any noise issues so if one or the oth...

We stayed at the Ocean Village for a couple of nights in August 2014, a "time out" in the middle of other visiting on Vancouver Island. It was our third visit, the previous two being at least a decade ago. It didn't disappoint.

Overall we gave it a 5 --- pretty darn good. Location, location. And kept in good shape, and upgraded too, over the years.
Value --- Price was $239 plus taxes per night for two. Not so cheap as the last time but competitive in today's market.
Location --- within Tofino, you can't ask for much better for beach and view. It's a short drive or a long walk (4 km) from "downtown" in the village. DISCLAIMER: But the act of driving to Tofino is not trivial! About a 2 1/2 hour drive from the east coast of the Island in good conditions, with the last hour being pretty rugged - "the world's best paved and smoothest logging road".

Reservations --- made over the phone. Although their web site called for a minimum stay of three nights, the place wasn't full so they very kindly booked us for two.
Check-In --- was quite courteous and efficient.
Service --- quite good from the office people and from the housekeeping staff who brought decaf' coffee on request.

"Public spaces" --- the beach (great, easy access). Picnic shelter close to the beach. Barbecues. Lawns well kept; the place looks clean.

The room --- we had a lower "studio cabin", #42. Quite large for two, would sleep four if the two day beds were used. No dressers for clothes but there are tons of drawers under the queen bed.
Full kitchen with a real range / oven, full size fridge, microwave,
Nice to see they have kept maintaining and upgrading the place over the past ten years ... new laminate flooring, new "instant" energy efficient hot water heaters, wood surfaces seemed to have been varnished.
Bathroom - full tub (hooray). New-ish fixtures, low flush toilet, everything worked. One quibble: the bath soap dispenser is too high to reach from a sit-down tub.

Queen bed was quite comfortable, no problem with sleep quality.
Noise at night is the waves coming in to the beach. Very soothing.
Cleanliness - passed the dust bunny check, not carpeted floor due to sand and water.

Internet WiFi was very slow and sketchy, as advertised on their web page "As with anywhere in Tofino, our wireless signal is not always the strongest."

No TV, no phone. Hey, this is supposed to be a retreat!

There is a pool on site, in its own building, which we didn't use this time; last time was quite acceptable. It's long enough to swim (short) laps in and has a hot tub.

No restaurant on site, most people cook for themselves in the room or the BBQ. There are a couple of restaurants in the adjacent hotels and a snack bar across the street.

Check-Out was quite seamless and no surprises on the bill.

Room Tip: Studio Cabins 35/36 (upper / lower); 37/38, 39/40 and 41/42 are one level below the rest of the two...

This year's highlights...

the MAZE the kids couldn't get enough! They were safe yet had great feelings of independence! Hence the parents liked it too!

As always the beach was beautiful. We enjoyed beautiful evenings and sunsets! Morning jogs and racing the tide to complete the biggest sandcastle!

The Pool and hot tub! Our once a year surf trip's key to survival is that hot tub and our kids love playing in the newly renovated indoor pool while we relax!

BBQ's with friends can't be beat! The BBQ were huge and always room for us to cook for our 7 families!

Once again totally recommend this place! It is awesome!

Room Tip: We stayed in a one bedroom right off the beach! able to gaze right out to the ocean and sunset!
