“A Surprise for my girl”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 14, 2013

Best decision I made for Canada Day Long weekend. Took my girlfriend here and stayed at the beach front building. Superb view of the pacific ocean from the porch, and the quality of service must be five diamond; anything you request they are on like mice on cheese. The stretch of beach, what can I say? Pristine, lots of wildlife on the shores and on the rocks. The Pointe Restaurant serves decent food, but the sunset view is splendid.

Room Tip: Beach building rooms is the way to go

For an inn that for several years was considered one of the best in the world, the Wick delivered on several fronts. Please, whatever you do you need to reserve an ocean view room. Well worth the price.
First the positives.
• Well designed and functional room
• Fantastic views from our ocean front room
• The bathroom was well thought out with great views of the ocean
• Every amenity you can imaging - robes, umbrellas, binoculars, rain jackets, boots, mini bar, fire place, free internet, heated bathroom floors, soaking tub, two comfortable chairs for reading, king bed and you can see the ocean from your shower.
• Great base to explore the Tofino area, especially walking the beaches
• Great wait staff at the Pointe, although the front desk was a little uneven. Does anyone over 25 work the front desk?
Now the negatives
• We arrived at the inn at about 1pm and there was no valet - had to handle our own luggage and park the car, and it was raining lightly.
• The Pointe Restaurant is the one weak link in the Wick experience.
- Great food to look at, but very uneven in quality
- We ate two dinners, three breakfast. and two lunches at the inn.
- My wife's cheddar and chorizo omelet was the one highlight of our stay.
- The braised short ribs were a major disappointment, the halibut just okay
- Wine prices are totally out of line when compared to any wine list at a top restaurant anywhere in North America.
- The corkage fee of $55 is just totally out of line
- I can appreciate that the Pointe wants to feature Canadian wines, but this was the most unbalanced wine list I have ever seen, and we have been in well over 100 Wine Spectator rated restaurants.
- Imagine a restaurant with just one chardonnay available by the glass, and it's not that great.
- The chablis paired with my halibut was $25 per glass.
- During the two nights we dined at the point, we were the only couple that I could see that had purchased a bottle of wine. There are a few bottles under $100, but not many.
- What amplifies the perception that you are getting ripped of on wine and mixed drinks is that fact in British Columbia a wine pour must not exceed 4 oz, compared to the 6 oz we normally get in the states.

Finally - Stay at the Wick, and enjoy the many eating options in the Tofino area, especially the restaurant at the Long Beach Lodge.

Room Tip: Room 212 is excellent

Dear kenzo32082,
Thank you for posting a Review of your recent stay at our Inn and your dining experience at The Pointe Restaurant. We were truly disappointed to learn that not all aspects of your stay were up to your expectations.
While we are pleased you enjoyed your stay at our Inn and particularly appreciated the design of our Inn, the amenities in your guest room and the view, we are truly sorry and surprised to learn that you were not greeted by a member of our valet team upon arrival to assist with your luggage and the parking of your vehicle. Please be assured that we are following up internally with our team in this regard.
We were also disappointed to learn that The Pointe Restaurant did not meet your expectations with respect to quality of food, corkage fees and wine pricing. Our culinary team prides itself on providing world class cuisine utilizing the freshest, locally sourced food products available and while we are delighted your wife thoroughly enjoyed the cheddar and chorizo omelette, we apologize that the braised short ribs and halibut were not to your satisfaction. As it is our standard to replace any dish not to our guest’s liking, we would have appreciated you bringing this to our attention at the time as we would have been more than happy to exchange any meals which were not to your expectations.
We appreciate and thank you for your comments regarding our corkage fee. The ability for guests to bring wine into a restaurant for consumption is a relatively new amendment to our liquor laws here in British Columbia and as such prior to setting our corkage fee we researched other similar Canadian establishments, setting our corkage fee in the mid-range. Of course, when setting the fee, we also took into consideration the service provided by our team to chill, open, decant and pour the wine into fine Riedel crystal decanters and stemware for our guests. We certainly appreciate your feedback and do apologize if you found the charge over highly in comparison to the average fee charged in the United States.
We also appreciate your comments regarding our liquor prices at The Pointe Restaurant as it does remind us that we do need to continually monitor our pricing structure to remain competitive. We pride ourselves on providing our guests with an award winning wine list, including wines from around the world and those wines grown right here on the Island and throughout BC and apologize if you felt our offerings were too locally focused. We can assure you that we have provided our Wine Manager with your comments as we are continually striving to improve in both quality and range of offerings from our Cellar.
Again, we are truly sorry that we did not meet your expectations and would welcome the opportunity personally discuss your experience with you. Accordingly, a member of our senior management team will be in contact with you to further discuss our wine and liquor costs, as well as any other aspect of your stay at our Inn you care to share with us.

Okay, I am not afraid to spend good money on accommodation and the sky is the limit for food, however the overall value offering is not up to snuff. Pretty room - felt more like a rustic cottage than a luxury inn. The staff were all lovely. Our waitress was pleasant - probably a student. Lacked proper formal dining room training. The food was quite nice, but definitely not on par with the prices. Wonderful to walk along that magnificent beach. We loved the towering pines on the property. Set your expectations lower than the prices and you'll be quite content.

Dear TravelEqualsJoy,
Many thanks for posting a Review of your recent stay at our Inn and sharing your experience with our Trip Advisor online community.
While we are pleased you enjoyed your stay at our Inn and appreciated the beach and towering pines surrounding the Inn, we were most disappointed to learn that you did not feel you received value for price for your guest room or for your dining experience at The Pointe Restaurant. We pride ourselves on providing excellent value for the price and regularly survey both local restaurants and other Relais & Chateaux properties in a sincere effort to remain so and we are truly sorry we did not meet your expectations in this regard. In terms of dining, as you can likely imagine, the cost of the food itself is a function of not only the outstanding food products, many of which are locally sourced organic products and many others made in house (jams, butter, breads and pastries etc.), they also incorporate the costs of quality Frette table linens, bone china etc. and of course providing a location that offers a spectacular ocean front view.
As each of our team members are provided with ongoing departmental training and also attend and participate in seminars which have been created by us and specifically tailored to our Inn, it was also disappointing that you did not feel you received the level of service expected. Please also accept our apology in this regard and please be assured that we will be following up internally with our Director of Food & Beverage and with the Manager of The Pointe Restaurant.
As we believe feedback from you, our guest, provides us with the insight needed to continuously improve the products and services we offer, any specific suggestions you have that would enhance your feeling of value for the price paid or if there are any aspects of our Inn that you feel could be improved upon in any way, we would be most appreciative of further feedback from you.
On behalf of Charles McDiarmid and our entire Wickaninnish Inn team we thank you for your Review and sincerely hope that we will have the opportunity to welcome you back to the Wickaninnish Inn & The Pointe Restaurant again.

My wife and I visited this resort in Mid September, 2013 and had a wonderful time. We stayed in a Chesterman Beach loft unit which was great. Great view, very comfortable and a great place to eat called the Driftwood Cafe. The staff was very very friendly and accommodating. Stefan, a concierge, was especially helpful and made several great bookings for us. The food there was very good and the scenery spectacular. We went hiking, whale watching and bear watching. The state park there also has losts of great trails for hiking and exploring. All were fun. The weather is as advertised so be prepared though the resort provided both rain jackets and pants. As they say there....There is no such thing as bad weather, only poor clothing choices. The drive from the east coast of Vancouver Island is spectacular but best done during daylight. The last several miles are particularly narrow and winding. Overall I would highly recommend this resort.

We loved our four day stay at Wickaninnish Inn. While October is rainy and stormy, the environment makes for a unique stay where walks on the beach, through the forests or in the small town of Tofino are all delightful.
Sleeping with the door open, the waves crashing on the rocks and waking to a colourful sky is great for the soul!
You feel remote from urban life with fresh air in abundance. The Inn's restaurant has very capable wait staff and outstanding food. They even prepared the salmon we caught to our own liking.

Room Tip: Don't think there are poolrooms

Super surprise that my sweetheart organized for my 60th bday booking the Wick. Champagne delivered upon check into a gorgeous room in the Pointe. Lovely table in the restaurant by the window watching waves crashing on the rocks. Lovely dining room..sorry to say the food was not quite as expected quality wise and although waiters were very friendly and professional the service was way too slow. Fantastic going back to our room with candles scattered around the room, flower petals and bath ready in such a fun pampering atmosphere. Location superb and beach amazing. All in all a lovely stay and experience!!
A bit surprised that no free shuttle to town. Will we return: YES!!!

Room Tip: West ocean view in the Pointe spectacular!

Dear lldekker,

Many thanks for providing us with feedback of your stay at our Inn via Trip Advisor and please accept our most sincere apology that not all aspects of your stay were to your expectations.

While we are delighted you enjoyed your stay with us in celebration of your birthday, we were of course most disappointed to learn that The Pointe Restaurant did not meet your expectations with respect to prompt service and quality of food. We understand that prior to your departure you had an opportunity to discuss your concerns personally with Adrian Gatt, The Pointe Restaurant Manager, and we trust that they have been addressed to your satisfaction and we are thrilled to know you look forward to returning to the Inn.

Again, thank you for your feedback and we look forward to welcoming you back to the Wickaninnish Inn and The Pointe Restaurant in the not too distant future.
