“A Wrdding To Remember”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 28, 2008

We stayed at the Pacific Sands for three nights and had a wonderful time. The accomodations were excellent. The scenery was absolutely stunning. You have a view of the Pacific ocean no matter where your suite is located. The hotel staff were just great. The surrounding greenery (of the forest etc.) is so beautiful, especially after a rainfall. Down the highway are many quaint shops and restaurant in Tofino, B.C.

  • Liked — The scenery -beach, forest, ocean.
  • Disliked — No restaurant on site.

I was looking forward to our stay here as the reviews were amazing and the pictures were pretty good. When we arrived, check in was pleasant enough, we received a few small maps which we found very useful along with helpful recommendations from the front desk. There were two groups of buildings, two of them were very nicely painted on the outside and in the middle of these two nicely painted buildings sat an old looking wooden building that I personally did not find attractive in the least. when we entered the room, I was a little bit disappointed. The room had its quirks like the star fish curtain rods, but it was very average, and the paint was chipped in several areas throughout the suite. We also found the kitchen could have been little better equipped.
The location was excellent although it would have been nice to be able to see the beach. We stayed in one of the lighthouse suites located closest to the beach.
I found it quite odd that we were told we could feel free to grab more firewood for the fireplace if need be, although when we used the logs that we were told we could use, we received a letter the next day saying we could be charged extra for the smell the logs give off and if we wanted more logs, we were to purchase more of the packaged logs from the front desk. Not a big deal, but it wasn't exactly a warm welcome.
All in all, I would consider going back, but it would have to be in one of the nicer suites. This is hoping that they are far nicer than the lighthouse suite in which we stayed. I would definately not return to this hotel as a guest in one of the light house suites.

  • Liked — Great location, short 1 min walk to a gorgeous beach, short drive to Long Beach, and short drive to Tofino.
  • Disliked — The presentation and up keep of the suite and buildings.

I can't figure out why this place is getting such rave reviews. Perhaps its because we stayed at the Lighthouse and its obvious this building is dated and old. The room was freezing when we arrived and window open. The place was clean and basic, but nothing special. I can see it being good in the summer with kids as you won't care about messing the place up. Stayed at the Wickinnish for two nights prior to moving here and would definately go back to the Wick before this place. It is a great value but nothing special.

I think the previous reviews pretty well sum up the quality of the resort, so won't repeat, other than to say it is quite the experience. I would, however, like to add the following.

like many other places, cox beach is starting to change quite a bit, and, depending upon your view, either for better or worse. more development, more people, more dogs on the beach, more signs of "civilization", more surfers, much more traffic, etc. etc.

changes to pacific sands resort itself over the past few years, not so dramatic, but who knows what the future will bring.

recommendation: if you're looking for a unique resort location, go now. in a few years, the feeling of solitude that was so attractive to many of us over the past 20 years is going to be long gone.

  • Liked — location
  • Disliked — getting to be too many people!!

With the dollar getting weaker, the Wickinninnish was out pricing itself for us, so based on the Trip Advisor reviews, we decided to go to the Pacific Sands and take a 2 bedroom 2 floor with an outdoor hottub overlooking the beach. It was beautifully appointed, very clean, and had a lovely view and beach access. We were thrilled with it. We didn't miss the Wick at all.It was a short walk to Chesterman beach, and Sunset Point was a short, lovely walk from our unit. I am looking forward to returning there soon.

  • Liked — The beautiful beach and the greatroom area of our unit- Also, the laundry ensuite
  • Disliked — No complaints

We have been staying in Tofino each fall for the previous eight years and because of the no-pet policy at Pacific Sands up until 2007 we stayed elsewhere. The Wick is very expensive, all around a bit stuffy for us, rented a couple of units through TVR which were good on Chesterman although I believe the policy on weekly rentals has changed in someplaces. We have stayed in Long Beach Lodge in the Cottages which are gorgeous but require a walk to the beach. Crystal Cove is nice - cabin 12 was beachront but after they added hot tubs it was a bit pricey.
Pacific Sands is certainly the best bang for your buck in Tofino. Nothing beats the sand and the surf at this great resort. Kudos to management for opening up a few Villas for pet owners - much nicer than the Lighthouse Suites we were in 2007. Staff is helpful and friendly. We stayed in Villa 41 which is at the northernmost part of the resort, in the little cove right before the trail that leads up to Sunset Point. Although we did not have full ocean view we had a nice side view and the sound of the waves, etc. Seconds to beach, warm foot showers on outside of unit. Very well stocked, nice towels, clean and quiet. There is no daily maid service but a bin is provided for towel exchange. They will also supply you with any other basics - tp, tissue, soap, shampoo, etc. Unit 41 had an oversized deck with a propane bbq - others at the resort had to share communal ones. Also has a stacking washer/dryer unit which came in handy. Gardens and grounds are beautiful and well maintained. Bike rentals at $15/4 hr is a bit steep but likely the least expensive activity you will find in this town. If I needed to find something that could be improved on -The bathroom in the main bedroom was a bit tight and a bit dark, dishwasher was a bit sketchy - very noisy and likely just needed an adjustment. Otherwise the pet policy here is stringent although there a many loose (mostly large) dogs running on the beach off lead - most owned by the surfers who are out in the water.

  • Liked — The quietness of the resort and the unobtrusiveness of the staff.
  • Disliked — Dark bathroom

We stayed here for 3 nights and we were lucky to be blessed with near perfect sunny weather. We stayed in a two bedroom villa which was set in trees just back from the beach. What a perfect, idyllic location.

The villa was well appointed and very comfortable. There were two good sized bedrooms, the master having a tub in the room. It was great waking up and taking in the view of the beach through the huge windows. Downstairs there's a good sized and appointed kitchen, a laundry room and a comfortable lounge.

We loved it here and would definitely come back although would want the same weather. Our kids had a couple of surfing lessons and we all spent a few hours sea kayaking at Ucluelet which was brilliant.

Apart from check in and check out we didn't really see much of the staff as this is a self catering resort. We'd expected this and planned accordingly - a detour to Walmart in Port Alberni on the drive in. There's a Co-Op in Tofino just a short drive away and there's a selection of restaurants in Tofino itself.

The resort has a boardwalk that takes a few minutes to walk to Sunset Point. There were fabulous sunsets to be viewed from here.

The only negatives were a minor problem with plumbing that was quickly resolved and perhaps the owners would consider improving the road round to the villas so the pot holes don't have to be navigated.

In summary, beautiful area and super accommodation.
