“Great sunsets from your room ...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2013

We just spent three days at Tin Wis Resort using a Groupon certificate. The resort is located a five minute drive outside Tofino, and the property extends right down to Mackenzie beach. All the rooms face towards the beach or the open areas. There are no "parking lot views" from the rooms. The sun sets right in front of your room and you have a front row seat.

Our room was immaculately clean, with a king-size bed, gas fireplace, fridge, microwave, coffee maker, kettle, flat screen TV, and WiFi reception. The resort is operated by the Tla-o-qui-aht people, one of the native bands on the west coast of Vancouver Island. It is decorated with a native theme; cedar canoes, cedar carvings, and native prints are found throughout the buidlings. The reception area and restaurant have open beam construction using local cedar timbers. The staff were very friendly, very efficient, and most obliging.

The restaurant is open is attached to the central building and overlooks the beach and ocean. We had two breakfasts and one evening meal there; the menu reflects the local west coast products, salmon, local halibut, and prawns are all excellent. The bar has a good selection of wines, and also serves beer and ales from the local craft brewery.

The resort is dog-friendly, but pet owners are restricted to specific rooms. There is a large gas barbecue for guest use, and a number of picnic tables are also available. The pool and gym were closed for maintenance during our visit.

At first, thinking that this was just another best Western, We wasn't expecting anything special. We are pleasantly surprised. The location is beautiful, ocean and beach views from our balcony ( 3rd floor)were gorgeous. The room was clean and well equipped. We just moved the two easy chairs up to the window ( it was chilly outside) , put our feet up and enjoyed the views. The staff was very friendly, but we found that the front desk staff didn't give out information easily. I think this is a matter of needing more training. Books and Dvds are provided in the lobby for borrowing. All of the rooms have been recently upgraded. The best views are from the 3rd floor rooms ( 701 - 710).

Room Tip: 3rd florr has the best views rooms 701- 710

We had a lovely weekend getaway to this hotel over Easter Weekend and had a rare clear and sunny few days for this time of year. Our second floor room was immaculate, with a wonderful view of the beach. The Smooth Waters Restaurant was stunning with glass on all sides. There were no bad seats in the place, as there were no items on the menu that weren't appealing. Sea food was great and the service was truly friendly, warm and courteous. We had on glitch on out stay there, being that the boilers went down and the dining room was closed for one evening, which got us out and into Tofino for an evening at another establishment for dinner.

We got a two day pass for the entire beach area of Pacific Rim National Park Reserve, which allowed for unlimited time on sun drenched beaches. While doing a three hour walk along Long Beach we did witness the beauty of three passing Grey Whales while they were at play about 200-400 meters from shore. Eagles soared above our heads, with countless other sea birds everywhere. This is truly one of the most beautiful spots on planet Earth, and must be seen and physically experienced to be truly appreciated. One thing though; remember to bring sunscreen and sunglasses as well as a raincoat and rubber boots. Weather can change quickly, and the mood of the land and seascapes is worth experiencing in any weather.

Room Tip: Second floor rooms are generally quieter, and require scaling two short stairways. All rooms have a...

The fridge was rotten smelling, but other then that EPIC Housekeeping staff were friendly. Lots of towels were provided. Front Desk were very helpful. Location is amazing. Right on the beach. Staying again.

Tofino on the west coast of Victoria Island, BC is the surfer's paradise. We arrived at 7:00 pm without any reservation, and by good luck alone (as most everything was booked out) we found the Best Western Tin-Wis Resort. I'm usually not a Best Western fan, at least not until I stayed at the Tin-Wis. Located on the Mackenzie Beach, territory of the Tla-o-qui-aht First Nations, the hotel is a mere three kilometres outside Tofino. Tin-Wis was Native build and remains Native run--so there's pride in the place. We were given a monster of a room with a king-sized bed, small kitchenette; stove; refrigerator; dishes--a suite in fact. The view of the ocean was brilliant from our third floor room, affording some brilliant sunsets.
I also recommend you try having dinner at the Calm Waters Dining Room which overlooks the the Pacific Ocean. The foods on offer are very tasty - a contemporary West Coast cuisine.
A fine list of BC Wines support the meal very well indeed.

We frequent Tofino over a dozen times a year and have our secret spots to stay but this time was short notice. We have always known about this Hotel from its inception but have always thought of it as your typical hotel.
The rooms all have great views , well appointed and looked to have been recently been upgraded. Very clean and
Staff very welcoming.
The restaurant on the other hand needs some polishing on the staff side.
Great Stay and recommended.

I had a great stay at the Tin Wis. Was up with some friends for a surf trip. Very affordable and friendly staff. I would go back there because normally I camp but this time it was great to have a roof over our heads! Had a great time!
