“Use caution in the parking lot”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 26, 2013

The resort protects it's lighting by putting 200 lb rocks in front of some of the lights in the parking lot. These are about a foot high and difficult to see at night. They do considerable damage to the front of your car if hit, as I discovered the hard way. Other than that, this resort is very quiet, clean, and beautiful. The spa, staff and common areas are outstanding. There is no breakfast but the units have a kitchen. Eat dinner next door at the Long Beach Resort at sunset. The food and service is quite good. The beach is wonderful. This is a peaceful and romantic place to unwind, relax, and do nothing.

Room Tip: ask for a unit on the "sunny" side

Dear 371MikeB371,

First and foremost I would like to apologize for the incident that occurred in our parking area, as we understand how frustrating this situation would be. Because of your comment we will be looking into either removing the rocks from our parking area's or making them more visible to ensure that this does not happen to any of our future guests.

I thank you for sharing the positive feedback in regards to the resort and am very happy that apart from the incident in the parking area, you thoroughly enjoyed our property and found it to be peaceful and romantic.

Our wonderful staff, common areas and facilities are what keep guests coming back to the Resort and I hope that on your next visit to Tofino you decide to do the same.

Please get in touch with me personally when you are planning a return trip and I will ensure that we make your next visit exceptionally special.

Sincerely,

Sarah Curtis

What a trip!! great drive across Van Island and a lovely location looking out into the Pacific! Apartment was gorgeous. Two level upper duplex with 2 bedrooms/2 bathrooms. There were 5 adults staying there and 2 couples and a single on the pull out sofa and there was plenty of room!! kitchen facilities were brilliant, cooked in the apartment every night and also used the communal BBQ for steaks, fish and ribs!
You are right on the beach so it was perfect. It was very misty though when we were there and chilly but you drive 15-20 minutes inland and its nothing but blue skies and hothothot.
I would most definitely recommend TACOFINO for a fish taco and inland to Kennedy Lake and Wally Creek.

Driving home one afternoon to Cox Bay and a black bear just strolled out in front of the car and crossed the road!! EPIC!!!

Room Tip: I would suggest an upper duplex apartment.

Dear Philodriscoll,

Thank you so much for your sharing your wonderful stay here at Cox Bay Beach Resort. We are so pleased that you found the units to be "gorgeous" and found there to be ample room with 5 people staying inside.

The fish, steak and rib dinners that you were able to cook while utilizing the kitchen and our common BBQ area sounds lovely. Also delicious is the locals favourite, Tacofino that you mentioned in your review.

Having encountered a black bear on your journey home is very memorable, which few people get to experience in Tofino, neverless in a lifetime.

We hope that you choose to join us here at Cox Bay Beach Resort on your next visit to Tofino.

Sincerely,

Sarah Curtis

We spent 3 nights here after a tour in Western Canada and could not have found a better place to wind down, relax and enjoy the ocean. The facilities / rooms / fit-out is great. Close to the beach. The resort isn't too big either, it doesn't get crowded around the hot tub or other (limited) common facilities. Short : comfort and tranquility at the beach, just perfect.

Room Tip: Ask how far from the beach, the closer to the beach the better, but all rooms have good access

Most of the reviews for this property were very good to excellent and our experience followed form. The 1 bedroom unit was very well appointed with lovely decor and furniture. Everything worked well and the heated bathroom floor was certainly a treat. The nearby beach was fabulous with wide sandy stretches, big waves, and wonderful views. If you are wanting an ocean view from your room then this is not the place. There's not a restaurant on the property either but this didn't seem a hindrance as there's one next door at another resort and plenty of nearby choices. Short of that everything was nearly perfect. Highly recommended.

Pretty happy to have a vacation in our own back yard. This place is incredibly dog friendly and has great facilities for surfing and showering off. Bring your bikes as Tacofino is only a short ride away. The price,it a bit on the steep side. I guess it's just strange to pay paradise tax so close to home.

Our trip to Tofino was fabulous, and we really enjoyed our time at Cox Bay Beach Resort. The shared amenities were great - hot tub, proximity to the beach, barbecue, storm watching room. The only thing is that if you are taking your dog, and book online, just make sure to send them an email in advance so that they can put you in a pet-friendly unit - otherwise you have to pay a $100 cleaning fee - broken down over a four day stay, it was still a great deal.

It had everything we could want or need in a hotel!

Room Tip: Ask for a main floor unit, and close to the beach - which allows you closer access to the shared ame...

Dear Risaroos,

We at Cox Bay Beach Resort thank you for taking time to write a review based on your recent stay with us. We are very pleased that you enjoyed your time here along with the amenities & shared facilities on our property.

Unfortunately sometimes when booking online or through a third party; particular requests such as pet friendly units can fail to get relayed to us in advance, which then limits the chance of us having a unit that allows pets available.

In future I highly recommend booking directly. Our friendly front desk staff will be more than happy to check on availability of these units in advance to ensure we can accommodate a pet with only our normal one time $40.00 pet cleaning fee.

We hope to see you again here at Cox Bay Beach Resort on your next visit to the Wild West Coast!

Kind Regards,

Sarah Curtis

Firstly, Tofino is one of my favourites spots on the planet and luckily I have been there many times to enjoy the beach, the wild West coast-ness and surf. We are big fans of Chesterman beach, likely one of the best beaches on the planet. Cox Bay is just South of Chesterman and is equally beautiful and much less developed. The Beach Resort is cleverly designed to fit a long string of one and two bedroom condos on a long narrow lot perpendicular to the beach, so no beach views from the units. However, the units and the resort are carefully designed, had one of the most comfortable beds ever, and is close enough to the beach that you can hear the surf from at least half the units. For those who may have mobility challenges, due to the shape of the property, there is a slight hill and a bit of a distance in terms of shlepping baggage to rooms, aided somewhat by wheel barrow like carts provided, but there did not seem to be anyone around whose job it was to assist. Otherwise, we were very impressed and are heading back there in a few weeks.

Room Tip: Get a room as close to the beach as possible if you like to hear surf.

Dear MK Pohlmann,

Thank you for taking your time to share some notes about your experience here at Cox Bay Beach Resort.

We are very pleased to hear that you enjoyed the design of the Resort, the comfortable beds and proximity to the ocean. There is nothing better than relaxing to the sound of rolling waves from the beach!

We do apologize that no one was available to assist you with your luggage on your recent visit. As to not compromise the beauty & serenity of the property and the units, parking is located a distance away from the units themselves.

We are delighted that you will be returning in a few weeks and promise a helpful hand to assist you with you baggage upon arrival.

Sincerely,

Sarah Curtis
