“Friendly, relaxing and peaceful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 12, 2013

My son, his wife and I spent a few days over New Years at Cox Bay. The rooms were comfortable and well stocked, the viewing room was lovely and warm (a great place to watch the kids surfing) and the hot tub was a great way to relax while they surfed and for them after surfing. I even tried out the exercise equipment and sauna as I was not interested in surfing. On New Years Eve we barbequed salmon and veggies on one of the barbeques provided outside the lounge then watched the fireworks on the beach which were amazing! That evening we sat in the lounge and played Scrabble while other families partied, many stopping by to visit with us by the fire. We drove into Tofino for groceries and lunch one afternoon and into Ucluelet to hike the Wild West Coast trail and for lunch another day. The resort was right on a great surfing beach and the surfing and boogie boarding were terrific (so I was told over and over again). I personally can recommend the hot tub and sauna! There was easy access to Tofino, Pacific Rim Park and Ucluelet from the resort.

Room Tip: We were on the lower floor in the middle section, so couldn't look out at the window at the beac...

“Lovely suites, with dog kennel ambience”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed December 13, 2012

Lovely location and the suites are nicely laid out with an excellent kitchen, gas fireplace, generous soaker tub and lots of space.

But there's been a poor howling dog left alone in the suite across the courtyard from us for two days, which has been driving us and other guests crazy night and day. Apparently, Rover doesn't care about the soaker tub and kitchen.

This morning as we were trying to enjoy coffee, another furry fellow right next door joined in with the howling. Yep, his owners are gone for the day too. I spoke with other guests, we've all found staff unresponsive.

This place advertises itself as dog-friendly, but so far, what I see is "irresponsible dog-owner" friendly.

And don't get me started on the patchy, coma-inducing wifi.

Perhaps it was because I don't get many long weekends off, but enduring two hours of the incessant, pulsating cacophony of howling dogs three evenings in a row, got me kinda grumpy. Made the Cox Bay ambience feel more skid row than beach resort.

“Has everything you need”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 9, 2012

I stayed in one of the 2 bedroom loft suites and it was FANTASTIC. There are 2 full bathrooms with huge tubs and heated floors - my new favorite feature! The view from the loft bedroom was awesome and the view from the patio on the lower level was pretty good too! The suites themselves are like a modern condo with everything you need. Full kitchen with all the cooking implements and dishes you'll need too. Fireplace, comfy couch, big tv and the beds are sooooooo comfortable. Like sleeping in a cloud. It's great if you have kids too cause the 1st bedroom is on the main floor on the back side of the unit and the loft is on the top floor on the front end so there's lots of separation!

The hotel itself doesn't really have many amenities, it's more like renting a condo than staying in a full service hotel but that's what most people want when they go to Tofino, in my opinion anyway. Because the food service options are relatively limited, most people get stuff at the grocery store and bring it back to the hotel to cook. It's also often what you're more in the mood to do after a long day exploring the beaches or rainforests.

Room Tip: Even if you're staying by yourself, ask if you can be upgraded to a 2 bedroom cause then you'...

“Great place for a get-away”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 1, 2012

We stayed at the Cox Bay Beach Resort in late November and had one of the two-bedroom suites that we shared with another couple. Each suite had a full bathroom so we had no problems "sharing" the bathroom with the other couple. The suite came equipped with a full size fridge and stove, a dishwasher, dishes for six, some small appliances (like a kettle, blender, coffee maker) as well as a good selection of pots and pans. There was also a large washer/dryer which came in handy. The dining area had a table and chairs for four, and the living room had a nice couch, some chairs, a gas fireplace and a flat screen TV. There was also a good sized covered deck with a table and chairs accessible from the living room.

The suite was very clean and well decorated, and did not have any of the worn or dated furniture mentioned by an earlier reviewer. The bed was very comfortable and had nice fresh white sheets and a duvet. The bathroom had lots of towels, shampoo, soap, conditioner, a hair dryer, and robes. We found the rooms to be quite dark, especially the bathroom which really needs extra lighting above the mirror. Forget about doing any reading at night in the bedroom or the living room unless you bring your own light.

Common areas included a sauna, gym, hot tub, and a lounge which has a few books and magazines as well as a wood burning fireplace, a kitchen and two BBQs right outside the door.

Cox Bay Resort is right on a good beach for walking although Chesterman Beach (next beach to the north) is much longer if you want some additional exercise. The resort does not have any dining facilties but it is located right next door to Long Beach Lodge where you can easily get meals (although not cheaply). Tofino is about a 10 minute drive, and there is a good selection of eating establishments with differing price ranges.

Finally, there is lots of secure parking seperated from the main road by a coded gate. Front desk staff were very friendly and we enjoyed our stay very much.

With regard to comments by some other reviewers, we did not experience any noise problems but we were on the second floor well away from the stairs. I can see that noise could become a problem if you are situated in a lower unit near the stairs. I do agree that the cleaning service was late in the day (probably around 4pm). Also the price is not cheap but we were lucky enough to get a good deal on Travel Zoo. The resort web site also has different deals so watch for those if you want to lower the cost of you stay.

“Stunningly beautiful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 22, 2012 via mobile

I had the pleasure of staying here and vwas very impressed. The loft suites are amazing as a bank of motorized blinds open up to a spectacular view of the ocean and wind swept coastal trees.
The kitchen was superbly equipped, complete with nice cutlery, blender, juicer, and a vast array of pots, and pans to make any meal.
The linnens are beautiful, the bed like sleeping in a cloud, and I took the pullows apart to find the brand as they were so wonderful.
The staff at the desk were helpful and effecient .
I highly recommend this resort!
