“Perfect Peaceful Getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 29, 2011

We have made Cusheon Lake Resort our 'go to' place to getaway from our busy Vancouver life. As soon as we get to the resort we have the feeling of peaceful serenity and of coming home.
As we watch the ducks on the lake in the morning with our coffees we quite often ask each other "why we don't come here more often?'
The log fireplace (which daily is full of new logs and starter) is great to get lost in while we relax with a glass of wine & some of the local delicacies.
The cabins are spotless and completely well equipped. Tom & Judy (the managers) feel like old friends now as they welcome us back.
This place has a bit of magic as it restores & rejuvinates us.

My wife and I recently enjoyed a quiet 3-night stay in mid-October. Previously, we'd enjoyed week-long stays during the summer months, but that's when "Listen to the Quiet" is more of a loud slogan. This time, the slogan was peaceful reality and I think we've found our favourite season to visit this very fine establishment. Definitely a different atmosphere in the off-season, suitable for those who enjoy a quiet and beautiful lake at a slower pace. (but loud and busy summer is fun too, just a different type of atmosphere)

Our cabin was a clean, warm 1-bedroom cabin, and once the caretaker adjusted the fireplace damper, we were able to enjoy a cozy fire each night.

My husband and I spent 3 nights at Cusheon Lake this past weekend and could not have been happier with our stay. We arrived Friday evening to find a warm, immaculately clean cabin. Lots of towels, extra blankets and pillows and firewood for our fireplace. The kitchen had everything we needed to make simple meals and the view of the lake was lovely. We would highly recommend this resort to anyone who desires a quiet getaway. There is no tv, wifi, cell service (for Rogers anyway) or phones in the cabins, which was find with us!

In August, 2010 we stayed here for our first real family get-together and my two little nephews loved it so much that we had to do it again in August, 2011. The boys, aged 6 and 8, live with their parents in London, England and though they are accustomed to expensive holidays in places like Antigua, Tuscany and the French Riviera, nothing compares to Cusheon Lake Resort in their eyes.
This year we had one week of perfect sunny weather staying in log cabins that were clean, comfortable and unpretentious. The adults caught up on sleep, read, talked and explored Saltspring Island. They drove off to see the art galleries and check out the restaurants. The boys, on the other hand, could not be persuaded to leave Cusheon Lake Resort at all. They were "too busy". Every morning they ate their fruit loops, changed directly into bathing suits and ran barefoot straight to the lake. They spent all day swimming, fishing, canoeing, playing badminton, playing soccer and doing jigsaw puzzles. They jumped off the dock until they were blue in the face and then came racing back to the cabin for a snack.
The fuss-free simplicity of the resort allowed them a degree of independence that would be impossible at a larger, fancier place. Of course all children need to be closely supervised especially around water but here it was easy to do that without squashing their sense of adventure. The resort is actually only 4 acres but because of all the trees and the huge amount of lakefront, it seems much bigger. The boys were convinced that they were conquering the great Canadian wilderness when in fact the resort is quite a tame and civilized environment.
Every evening we cooked at the shared barbeque and ate at the picnic tables near the dock. The boys roasted marshmallows and got goop stuck in their hair. There are no televisions in the cabins, so after their bath, we read to them in bed. They wanted Star Wars the Clone Wars but we forgot to bring it (on purpose). The mind-altering magic of Cusheon Lake Resort was so powerful that after a moment of macho posturing, these two toughies allowed themselves to fall under the spell of the original full-length Wizard of Oz, good old-fashioned stuff. By 8pm they were asleep and the adults could relax in the hot tub.
If you are seeking quality time with loved ones, then this place is perfect.

Room Tip: We were a group of 8 so we rented two cabins. One of these was cabin #9 which is the only one at th...

I have stayed at Cusheon Lake dozens of times over the last 5 years, frequently taking a weekend away from Victoria to relax there. It's a very quick and easy trip over from Victoria. Quiet evenings by the fire sipping one of the local wines and enjoying the local cheese and bread from the Saturday market. Waking up to the pristine lake with steam rising off it and birds chirping away. In the spring at dusk, the sounds of the treefrogs fill the air and continue until first light (an amazing sound!). Near perfection!

Tom and Judy are the resident managers and have always greeted us with a smile. They've always made us feel so welcome and at home there.

There are 1 and 2 bedroom cabins available, we have stayed in both. All of the log cabins have fireplaces that make for a cozy atmosphere in the evenings. The 1 bedroom cabins have plenty of space for a weekend away, the 2 bedroom cabins have more common area with a larger livingroom area and a dining area. The kitchen is fully equipped so all you need is food to cook. There are a few grocery stores and cold beer and wine stores in town. (you can also buy fresh crab right off the boat at the marina in Ganges!).

There are 2 docks with chairs on them and a small beach for guest use. Canoes and rowboats are available. There is a common hottub overlooking the lake. Numerous books and board games can be borrowed from the office so there's plenty to occupy your time with if you decide to enjoy all of it at the lake. There is a charcoal BBQ area in one of the common areas for guests. Wireless internet is available throughout the resort.

If you decide to explore Salt Spring, you'll have no problem filling several days visiting all of the beaches, parks and artisans and other interesting bits around the island. Ruckle Park and Mount Maxwell are worthy of a visit.

Room Tip: The lower numbered cabins are the best place to listen to the frogs in the spring evenings.

We love the spacious log cabin -fully equipped, clean and bright. A few steps from the cabin is a dock, where we enjoy our swims in this quiet lake. The resort is the ideal place for families - a beach, docks and canoes and row boats to use. As our kids grew they enjoyed the green space for badminton and other games. Now grown, our children still spend a few days with us every year at Cusheon Lake. They wouldn't miss it. It is the best. A little bit of heaven. Judy and Tom are our cheerful, helpful, hardworking and efficient hosts.

We've been visiting saltspring for 15 years and have stayed in many different places. Since having kids our favorite by far is cusheon lake resort. The cabins are spotless, with comfortable beds. The lake is fabulous for swimming, fishing and canoeing and the hosts tom and Judy are wonderful. They welcome us and our kids back every year like old friends. We highly recommend the resort for families lOoking for a relaxing getaway. We've already booked for next summer.
