“THE BEST DAY OF RIDING.... EVER!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2013

Catskiing (or is it Catboarding on a snowboard) with Big Red Cats was phenomenal! Our guides were awesome, our Cat driver was awesome, the terrain was awesome, and the snow was awesome. We could not have asked for a better day of riding - all thanks to Big Red Cats and their amazing employees who give excellent customer service. Safety was huge. Catskii with Big Red Cats, it is worth EVERY penny. Cheers!

“Two very memorable days”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 31, 2012

My daughter (23) and I had two fantastic days powder skiing with Big Red Cats during the last week of December 2012.... Kieren and the gang made us feel most welcome and while safety was #1 it never got in the way of many great runs with minimum downtime.
We enjoyed an amazing selection of runs that varied from tight trees to wide spaced trees to beautiful open runs.
We plan to return and would highly recommend BRC to anyone considering Cat skiing

“Great catskiing! Awesome time!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 8, 2012

Big Red Cat's safety standards are very high, their professionalism excellent and best of all you will have lots of fun! My husband & I have been catskiing with Big Red Cats a couple of times now, we did 3 days with them in 2009 & 4 days in 2011. If you have never been catskiing before, we would highly recommend going with Big Red Cats!

“Best first cat trip”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 20, 2012 via mobile

Went on April 1 2012. The weather wasn't the best for views but awesome for what we were there to do. Have done a lot of log block skiing but this was different. Nice gladed runs. Beautiful open runs. The owners were very accommodating and helpful. Safety was paramount. We sign up for advanced/ expert not really knowing what to expect. After our first run they offered to change us up to the expert group but we chose to stay where we were. My son who is 14 had the time of his life. Seemed to be the only outfit that let children that young for a great price. Kudos and big thank you to Paula, Keiren and our tail guide Ari for a great first expierence. The only crappy thing was on my part for not tipping because I forgot to bring cash. We will be back again. Thanks again. Also the local cameraman from rossland that came along took awesome pictures.

Glad you enjoyed it - hope to get you out some more before your 14 year-old turns 19! I do think you're right that we're the only operator with $199 teen rates.

“Great guide, pretty good terrain”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2012

We decided to try BRC instead of Valhalla, this year. We hit a good day with fresh snow, 20+ cm, soon after a series of storms, so the base was soft. The guide was very thorough and professional; safety consciousness was always his priority. It was very windy, so I think our routes were determined to keep us out of the worst of it. The afternoon featured some nice steep runs, in and out of forested blocks. The morning runs were pretty boring.

Compared to Valhalla, BRC is more tame. All terrain is below tree line. Our group size was 14 (only one of three cats has that capacity), so it was slower because of that. BRC's bus ride/approach is more pleasant than Valhalla, being somewhat shorter and on a less rutted road. BRC tries to build groups by ability level, whereas Valhalla says 'experts only'. Neither does a great job of keeping intermediates from blending in, which slows down the group.

We had a great day at BRC, but I don't think I'd go there again, as I'm looking for a hard-core group in experts-only terrain.

Thanks for your review, if you do decide to return sometime, keep an eye out for an "Uber-Expert" group. We describe that at being for people who "like it steep, are happy to huck off cliffs all day, and will be faced with situations with mandatory air." It was designed to address the "ability creep" which happens when intermediates self-assess as advanced, and advanced self-assess as expert, or god forbid, intermediates self-assessing as expert. (Weaker skiers may think they want it steep, but rarely want to jump off cliffs). We do our best to separate by ability, but as we don't usually SEE people ski ourselves, there are some limitations to that. Run selection can also be affected by avalanche hazard, and can be steeper on some days than on others, so if there is a relatively high hazard, even the Uber group will have things toned down. Correct, all below tree line, and while there are some open bowls, those are sometimes not skiable if the hazard is high or if there has been a wind event, so much of the skiing is in gladed trees.
