“Worthwhile view”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2012

The trail head is accessible by car, taxi and local bus service to Port Edwards. We found the walk somewhat endless, about 45 min. each way, but were rewarded by a flow tide that provided quite a show of white water.

“Beautiful place to see and hike”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2012

Butze Rapids offers beautiful foliage, forest, and water views. Bring your camera! The point where the rapids converge is breathtaking. The entire hike itself (some in the direct sun, much of it under the forest canopy) was fairly easy. The trail is approximately 5km. It took my husband and I about 90 minutes to complete at an easy pace. It was a sunny, warm day when we went. Regular trail travelers say the trail can be treacherous when it is wet, however. Some of the terrain is rough, and there are some slight inclines. Again, easily managed with good hiking shoes. We observed people harvesting foliage, which is expressed warned against. Additionally, there were several unleashed dogs, along with their owners, on the trail, which was also clearly warned against by several obviously placed signs. Beware, if you have younger children, not all of the dogs were friendly. Otherwise, it was a wonderful hike with beautiful views and scenery. Also, there are many places to rest along the way, and there are a number of picnic tables placed in scenic spots to picnic with the little ones (or bigger ones!). Definitely worth a visit.

“Good half-day walk”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2012

If you have a little time to spare in Prince Rupert, try this 5km. walk over well maintained trails. You do not even need a car as the trailhead can be reached by local bus. Allow about 2hrs. and if you time your visit right you will see the rapids reverse with the tide.

“Walk through a rainforest”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2012

This was a hidden gem in my view. The weather wasn't great and we hadn't planned to stay in Prince Rupert so were looking for a walk that showed the vegetation of the area. The trail was lush, well-kept and full of interesting things to see, even on a drizzly grey day! We had a great time and now have some great pictures!

“a must do when in Prince Rupert”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 10, 2012

Super walk in the forest with excellent trail under a canopy of trees. An overlook will allow you to watch the reversing rapids. Takes about 1.75 hours to walk the trail going at a good clip, so the estimate of 2 to 2.5 hours on the sign at the beginning of the trail applies to slower walkers. Some inclines but nothing too difficult.
