“Nice Hotel a little dated”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 16, 2014

Nice clean hotel. Could be brighter. Rooms average. Beds Comfy. Beautiful patio bar that turns into nightclub at night. Quiet and relaxing during the day. Turns Crazy in the evening. Also you have to pay a cover charge to sit on the patio at night. Unless you can stand the loud music & young adults? I would not recommend it. We ate dinner at the Bufflehead. Food & service were good. The Hooded Merganser for breakfast was very good. You also are charged for parking even when staying at the hotel.Casino is Average. Also Dark! The casino bar was hopping and the service at the bar was great! Vicky is Amazing!

Room Tip: Higher floors have better views. Choose lake view or you get to look at the parking lot!

A quick two night getaway to take my mom wine tasting. We booked two 'beach view' rooms for about $241 plus taxes per night each. I read mostly positive reviews of this hotel so was looking forward to a beach-side resort style place.

We were given two adjoining rooms on the third level. I don't recommend this level for the beach-view rooms as it's right over a very large roof so most of your view is dominated by the roof with some city-park and beach in the distance.

The hotel immediately struck me as very dated and dark. The 90's heavy and dark decor didn't suit or compliment the bright beach-side location. The lobby and commons areas need to take advantage of this and be renovated in a bright and airy way with light colours and modern, clean and minimal furniture.

The rooms had a very dated heavy dark 90's feel as well. They did little to inspire a beach or lakeside mood, in fact they were bordering on depressing. The furniture might have been considered high-end in it's day but looked excessively dated and some of it was rather worn. The lining from under the armchair was hanging off, the carpet edges were fraying badly and the top sheets were torn in several places. It wasn't awful and in fact was relatively clean, it just didn't look fresh, welcoming or inviting at all. I hope they're planning some significant updates soon or I anticipate more 'meh' reviews.

We dined in the Hooded Merganser for dinner which was enjoyable. Food was pretty good, standard fare of seafood, steaks, some bowls and salads. My only complaint was the bread, $5 for four brown & serve hamburger buns spread out on a dinner plate.., come-on guys where's the artisan bread basket?... you're in wine country.

Overall I'd caution recommending this place unless you get a great deal. Splurge for the lake- views, the beach-views are just ok and will leave you wanting more. The staff seemed pleasant as well but I hope a big reno is in the cards, they've got the great setting but are not keeping pace with the high-standards of this area.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to write this response and for your careful considerations. We would also like to thank you for choosing to spend your family time with us. It is unfortunate that you did not find the interior to your taste. The hotel has indeed, undergone recent comprehensive renovations, which includes ongoing upgrades to rooms and furnishings, while carpets are frequently refreshed. However we have duly noted your concerns. We are glad that you found the rooms satisfactory however, in cleanliness and facility. We are also pleased to hear that your dinner experience at one of our restaurants was enjoyable and that you were able to take advantage of the wine country. We hope that you would choose us again, should your travels bring you back to the South Okanagan.

Positives:
The staff was very friendly and our check in was fairly quick.
Our room was clean and adequate.
Negatives:
No parking pass in included in hotel rate.
After spending $200 on dinner at the on-site restaurant, we then had to pay a cash cover charge to enjoy a glass of wine on the patio at the pub. Tacky.

Our recent two day stay at the Penticton Lakeside Resort was most enjoyable! They have so many components to make your stay well rounded, wonderful and close to perfect. We very much enjoyed the five star restaurant "Hooded Merganser" and the "Bufflehead Pasta and Tapas" patio. The serving staff at both restaurants were absolutely fantastic!! We hadn't experienced that degree of service since our trips to Asia. Well done servers, you shined and were on the ball every minute making sure your guests were awe struck. The live music on the patio walkway was such a treat, and was the final touch to a perfect evening. Having the casino on site, and watercraft to rent on the beach, really has brought this resort on par to those we enjoyed in Mexico and other countries. Our room was large, and nice to have a balcony; and even though the resort was fully booked and all we could get was city view, we actually enjoyed looking out toward the lovely hills and treed park nearby. If there was any small downfalls, it might have been that the outside of the hotel needed a paint job, and little improvements here and there. If you are looking for a pool and hot tub, they were rather dated, but with all the amenities here its understandable that the pool isn't a focus. Rooms are pricy, but it was a long weekend.... and you get what you pay for. There were several stag parties happening on the Sat. night; so a few noisy patrons lingered in the parking lot with their celebrating... but we didn't complain, because those events are just known for that. Our second night there, we were able to book the "Casino Pkg", that was kind of nice, and an incentive to try our luck in the Casino, and have a lovely breakfast again at the "Hooded Merganser". Overall, we would come back. Thanks Penticton Lakeside.... You did well!

Room Tip: Depending on what you are looking for.... all the rooms have lovely, but different views. We enjoy...

Dear Patron,
We are so glad to hear that your two day stay with us was most enjoyable and that your impression of our establishment was “close to perfect!” In the business of hospitality, that is the best anyone can ever wish to hear. Likewise, we are equally gratified that our resort’s variety of facilities and venues anticipated your needs, and helped to establish an overall well-rounded and memorable experience in the way of our restaurants, serving staff, entertainment and rooms. We are happy to have accommodated you with our Casino Package, and that you were thus able to take advantage of the resort’s on-site casino, followed by a complimentary breakfast at one of our restaurants. Thank you for your tips and considerations. We hope you will visit us again at your earliest convenience and that we should never fail to delight and inspire. Best wishes.

My family and I love going to Penticton, and this hotel has made the trip even better! The rooms are nice and clean and some are available with a beautiful view. The staff are willing to help and attentive. The food is great and the Hooded Merganser, a restaurant connected with the hotel, has a spectacular restaurant with a beautiful view ( beware pricy!). The beach is small and secluded and has grass instead of sand. Although, the water is freezing but that is lake not the hotel. The small problem I have with this hotel is that at night it gets quite rowdy, because it has a casino and a bar.If you have young children it may not be suitable for them at night. Overall, great hotel and worth the stay!

We just stayed here on a 2 day ultimate getaway package. At check-in we were upgraded to a business king room. The package is a good deal as it includes 2 breakfasts and one dinner. While this is an older hotel and the rooms are a little dated, it is in a great location overlooking the lake and very close to the centre of town. All rooms on the north side have an excellent view of the lake. The night club spills out onto the patio and can be noisy particularly at weekends. The main restaurant, The Hooded Merganser, is excellent. Food and service are great. The small casino is conveniently located in the hotel if you wish to make a donation. There are great walks along the beach from the hotel. And, there are many excellent wineries within a short drive. We wouldn't stay anywhere else in Penticton.

Room Tip: All rooms on the north side have a great view of the lake but can be noisy - bring ear plugs if you...
