“A trip to remember in Penticton”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 6, 2012

My wife, son, father and I just came back from a wonderful week at the Best Western. Many others have explained the amenities offered, so instead of repeating them over and over I will just state my opinion about the hotel and area. The location is fine, close to Skaha beach, but still a drive if you are hauling coolers, floaties, beach bags, lawn chairs, etc with you. We hit both Skaha and Okanagan Lake (which is definitely a drive away), and preferred Skaha. The water is calmer, the wind lighter, and it feels comfortable and relaxing. The Okanagan side is more lively, with all the motels right across the street, restaurants and shops nearby, but a rockier shoreline and choppier water.
This hotel has been in Penticton for what seems like forever. I remember walking by it 40 years ago, and it has always been seen as a step above the many other motels in the area. The service, amenities, and staff did not let us down on this trip. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and reasonably new, with only the bathroom looking like it could use a little updating. Having both an indoor and outdoor pool is fabulous, and my family took full advantage of both, along with the indoor hot tub.
Our mornings were helped along by the wonderful free continental breakfast. The staff were attentive and friendly, and the food was good, very similar to other Best Western continental breakfasts. After that, we were off to the beach or taking a drive to visit some of the many fantastic wineries in the area. Most days were spent on the absolutely gorgeous beaches, soaking up the sun and enjoying the view.
After coming back from the beach and having a nice shower, our nights were spent sitting on a table in the courtyard, firing up one of the charcoal bbq's, and cooking a great meal. There is a gas grill available as well, but using a charcoal grill while meeting many different people from all over was one of the best parts of the trip. I mean you're on holidays, slow down, enjoy yourself and meet some interesting and entertaining people! The hotel is very family friendly, with kids running around or playing on the slides, gliders, etc. Being family friendly, it quieted down about 10 pm, and we were never disturbed or woken by noise.
One peeve I did have was the number of dogs running around. I have a dog, but left him at home with family. I love dogs, and most people were courteous and picked up after their pooches. Unfortunately, the rule about being on leash was never enforced. Dogs were running loose all over the place, and this lead to dog crap being left in the grass, and little kids running through it. Please, keep your dog on a leash and clean up after it. This is not the staff's fault, and I felt bad when I saw a staff member having to clean up dog crap because of lazy owners.
Overall, the stay was excellent, the price was a little high, but the amenities were top notch. Pentiction seems a bit like the town BC forgot. Kelowna and Vernon seem much more modern, but Penticton seems to have that faded gentility. It may be a bit worn and tattered around the edges, but it is comfortable. Watching people cross Lakeshore Drive to get an ice cream, or carrying a floatie from their motel to the beach, always makes me think of a simpler time when it wasn't all chain restaurants and giant RV's.
Thanks, Best Western and Penticton for giving us a trip down memory lane.

Room Tip: First floor has a better chance of getting a courtyard table.

We would first like to thank you for your kind review! We are glad to know that you enjoyed all that we have to offer here at our property. We appreciate your comments with regards to our grounds, our amenities, and our staff. We will be sure to pass those comments on to our team members. Penticton is known for our gorgeous beaches, and we are very happy that you were able to enjoy Skaha Beach just a couple of blocks down the road from our location. There are many, many people who bring their pets with them on vacation, and we are always sure that we have at least one staff member keeping an eye on the courtyard for this exact concern. We will continue to be diligent in our efforts to ensure that our courtyard is clear and that those pet owners are picking up after their furry friends!

We would like to thank you for your business and we hope that you will return to stay with us again in the near future!

Kind Regards,

Betsy Hogg

Me and my wife stayed here for 4 nights. This is a really comfortable, clean and nice place to stay in Penticton if you can afford it. This should however be rated higher up in tripadvisor, like within the top three hotels.
Pros:
Close to Skaha Lake, Penticton Buffet, Skaha Pharmacy, Walmart, etc. (withing 5-10 mins of walking)
Complimentary Breakfast, hot tub, indoor pool, outdoor pool, LCD HDTV 42'', DVD player available on request.
Friendly staff (Cole, Jasmin should be given raises!), computer and printer available for guest's disposal near reception, gym, virtual children's park inside (reminds me of Toys R Us of NYC) with all the nuts and bolts.
Clean, comfortable rooms, kitchen/kitchenette available on request.

Cons:
Price, Price, Price...
Not enough power outlets in the room
The bathroom was clean but the toilet was sometimes slow to flush.
Though breakfast is complimentary, more variety is needed in Breakfast menu

Room Tip: Choose upper rooms with kitchenette!

We have been staying at the Best Western in at Pentiction for a week in the summer for approximately 30 years. It is like coming home! The rooms are a bit pricey but we enjoy the courtyard and meeting friends that also come for the same week. It is very family oriented. There is an outside pool as well as an inside pool and hot tub. The staff are always working to maintain the building and keep it in good repair. The rooms are clean and comfortable. They offer a continental breakfast in the mornings until 10A.M. which I wish they would extend until 11A.M. Preteens don't like getting up early after playing in the courtyard with friends after dark. There is a place to barbecue and a lot of guests make a lot of their own meals. My adult daughter grew up coming to the Best Western Inn at Penticton every summer of her life and still comes with us. I am sure when she has a family they too will come here.

We stayed here for 1 night in July 2012. It is in a good location, very neat & clean outdoors & inside. The outdoor courtyard was very enjoyable to sit back & relax and included an outdoor pool & play area. Very family-friendly. Our room was very comfortable & the staff was friendly & most helpful! The price was slightly higher than other Best Westerns we've stayed in but that's the price you pay if you want to see such a beautiful part of Canada....The Okanagan of BC!!! Our stay included a nice continental breakfast, that we enjoyed outdoors in the courtyard. We definitely recommend Best Western Plus Inn, Penticton, if you are looking for a clean, well kept and comfortable place to stay, along with friendly staff. A+A+A+

The night before we stayed at a nice hotel that was over $60 cheaper so we were let down quite a bit. Our room the was dated and dingy. We placed a suitcase on the bench only to have it break apart a second later. I found it frustrating that I had to call down to the front desk just to find out how to make an outside call and how to retrieve messages. There was no information about the hotel at all. The shower was horrid! It would freeze me and then scald me a second later without me adjusting the temperature. With that being said, the staff was wonderful and helpful. We stayed for 2 nights and I had a hardtime with the price. I didn't think it was worth it. If we end up back in Penticton, we won't be back.

We stayed at the Best Western over the Canada Day long weekend. The rooms weren't cheap, but I guess you don't get cheap in the Okanagan over a summer long weekend. They certainly weren't out of line with anything else available and appeared to be much nicer than many. We liked having access from both sides of the room (parking lot and courtyard) and found it to be very clean and fairly contemporary in its decor.

This place would be great for families. There is a large grassy courtyard with a pool, sandbox, swingset and small adventure playground. There is also an indoor pool and hot tub. I think all of the rooms have at least a microwave & fridge, and many even have full kitchens. They also have a free continental breakfast which kids would enjoy - waffles, cereal, muffins, bagels, etc.

All that said, if you aren't there with kids it can be too kid-oriented. I would have enjoyed some fresh fruit or eggs at breakfast (although I didn't expect this), so we only ate breakfast there one day. The pool was filled with lots of kids who were, of course, playing and having a great time, but didn't provide a relaxing environment for adults.

We also found that we were at the wrong end of town with most of the restaurants & pubs along Okanagan Lake or in the downtown core, which was about a $20 cab ride from the hotel. We only found one pub within walking distance, and it wasn't all that great. But it was a quick walk to the beach at Skaha Lake (again, good for families).

If I had kids, I would absolutely stay here again. But as a couple without kids, we would probably try to find something a little more adult-oriented and closer to Okanagan Lake.

We would first like to thank you for your kind review! We appreciate your comments with regards to our courtyard as well as our guest rooms. We work very hard to ensure that our property is suitable for families as well as for those without children. There are many more than just one pub within a ten minute walk, but only one between our location and Skaha Beach. We are sad to hear that our location is not the most desirable for you, but we hope you will give us another chance to serve you in the future.

We appreciate your comments and we thank you for your business.
