“The Perfect Guesthouse”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 1, 2013

We agree with the previous praise of the Serenata Guesthouse. Staying there is a very pleasant experience. Jake and Colleen are the perfect hosts, helpful, friendly, and relaxed. You feel right at home. They are very knowledgeable about the local community, its history, where to taste wine, to eat , or enjoy the local attractions. An additional highlight for us was meeting and sharing experiences with the fellow guests, some of whom had stayed there before. Needless to say, guests frequently return to Serenata. The setting is in a quiet green garden with views of the Okanagan Lake and the vineyards of Naramata. The rooms are elegant, yet comfortable. The breakfasts are luscious. An additional benefit is the nearby bistro at the Hillside Winery and Bistro (about 2 km away) with its friendly service and excellent food.

We stayed at the Serenata Guesthouse for four nights based on previous reviews on this site, and were not disappointed. The grounds were beautiful, the room well-appointed, and everything was kept in very good condition. Jake and Colleen are very genuine people, and you can tell that they work very hard to give you a good experience. Colleen's cooking is top notch. The favourite part of our stay was getting to know the other guests while enjoying the gourmet breakfasts that Colleen prepared for us. The location of the B&B cannot be beat. We enjoyed the hikes along the KVR (both in Penticton and in Naramata), visiting the wineries in Oliver and on the Naramata Bench, and the great food/views at the many restaurants we visited. We are looking forward to returning.

We got married at Serenata three years ago and came back this year for our anniversary. Despite a change in ownership, everything was as we remembered it. Jake and Colleen are lovely hosts and I can't say enough about Serenata.

I would recommend this B&B to anyone looking for a quiet, serene place to relax during their time in wine country.

Beautiful quiet setting on the Neramata Bench, tasteful decor, well appointed rooms, great breakfast, easy access to KVR trail for biking and hiking, all delivered with humour and skill by Jake and Coleen. We will be back.

Serenata definitely deserves their No. 1 Rating. We stayed at Serenata with two other couples and one single friend over the first weekend in August. I can't say enough good things about our stay there. The accommodations were fabulous! The grounds were beautifully kept and offered several areas where you could relax and enjoy the peace and quiet. The view of the Naramata Bench and Okanagan Lake was superb. Some of our party stayed in the Courtyard Suite. It has a private patio and full kitchen, which we used several times. The Luxury Grandview Guestroom #4 was a delight. Colleen and Jake were wonderful hosts and visiting with them made the stay even more enjoyable. We felt that we had made new friends at the end of our trip. Breakfasts were very tasty and filled us up for most of the day. We hope to return next year during the grape harvest.

There are many reasons why Serenata fully deserves its number 1 rating on Tripadvisor. First is its location, nestled amongst the vineyards on the northern edge of Penticton, about 8 km south of Naramata, on the sunny side of the lake. The B&B is situated on a hillside, 10.5 acre estate just off the Lower Bench road. The property is impeccably landscaped with a fine lawn, garden, trees and grapevines. The place is amazingly tranquil, yet within a 20-minute walk of three of the area's finest restaurants--the Kitchen (at Misconduct Winery), the Vanilla Pod (at Poplar Grove) and Hillside Estates--and a 5-minute drive to some of Penticton's finer dining spots.

Colleen and Jake, the hosts of Serenata, immediately made us feel at home, offering us a welcome drink and plenty of information on arrival, as well as a bottle of their own 3-mile winery's delicious Trio Meritage blend. It was a pleasure to chat with both of them, and they have a wealth of information about anything and everything to see and do in the area.

We stayed in room number 2, which had a terrific view of the front garden, lake and surrounding vineyards. It was spotlessly clean, spacious, very tastefully appointed and exceptionally quiet--despite being full or nearly full for the three nights that we stayed, we never heard a sound from the other rooms. Before checking in, I was a bit concerned that the Serenata website made no mention of air conditioning, which is definitely a consideration when the outside temperature is 30-plus degrees, but was relieved to find that the entire house had central air conditioning, which was kept to a perfect temperature both day and night. The room also had a controllable ceiling fan, which not only served a practical function, but positively contributed to the decor and ambiance.

Breakfasts were excellent and served outside on the back garden patio. The first day we had a delicious omelette, the second day we had whole wheat flour pancakes with local berries, and the third day we had a fantastic frittata. Every breakfast included coffee, orange juice and fresh fruit from the area.

Serenata is an ideal spot for a tranquil--yet not isolated--and romantic getaway. The rooms are not cheap, but considering the deluxe accommodation, the friendly hospitality, the superb location with a view of the lake, and the fact that it was high season, this B&B was excellent value. I highly recommend it and can't wait to go back!

Many thanks to Colleen and Jake.

We had the pleasure of staying for one week at Serenata, as a base to explore the Okanagan valley. Naramata is by far the most beautiful place in Okanagan, and it was the perfect place being central in the Okanagan, out of which to explore other regions. Everything was exceptional - the hosts Colleen and Jake were so warm and cared for every detail of our stay in a very personalized way, the gardens were exquisite - a real oasis of tranquility, Colleen's breakfasts were exceptional and different everyday and always made with the freshest of ingredients, the rooms were clean, well decorated, spacious and of the highest standard. The view onto the Naramata bench and Okanagan Lake was unsurpassed. And... Colleen's wine-making ability shows here true artistic strengths - her wines were of the best quality we were able to find in the entire Okanagan. I recommend Serenata for anyone looking for that exceptional stay. The value for money and quality is of the highest I've ever found in my travels across the globe. Congratulations and Thank you Colleen and Jake for making our week so special!!

Room Tip: Luxury Valley view room was exquisite!
