There are many reasons why Serenata fully deserves its number 1 rating on Tripadvisor. First is its location, nestled amongst the vineyards on the northern edge of Penticton, about 8 km south of Naramata, on the sunny side of the lake. The B&B is situated on a hillside, 10.5 acre estate just off the Lower Bench road. The property is impeccably landscaped with a fine lawn, garden, trees and grapevines. The place is amazingly tranquil, yet within a 20-minute walk of three of the area's finest restaurants--the Kitchen (at Misconduct Winery), the Vanilla Pod (at Poplar Grove) and Hillside Estates--and a 5-minute drive to some of Penticton's finer dining spots.
Colleen and Jake, the hosts of Serenata, immediately made us feel at home, offering us a welcome drink and plenty of information on arrival, as well as a bottle of their own 3-mile winery's delicious Trio Meritage blend. It was a pleasure to chat with both of them, and they have a wealth of information about anything and everything to see and do in the area.
We stayed in room number 2, which had a terrific view of the front garden, lake and surrounding vineyards. It was spotlessly clean, spacious, very tastefully appointed and exceptionally quiet--despite being full or nearly full for the three nights that we stayed, we never heard a sound from the other rooms. Before checking in, I was a bit concerned that the Serenata website made no mention of air conditioning, which is definitely a consideration when the outside temperature is 30-plus degrees, but was relieved to find that the entire house had central air conditioning, which was kept to a perfect temperature both day and night. The room also had a controllable ceiling fan, which not only served a practical function, but positively contributed to the decor and ambiance.
Breakfasts were excellent and served outside on the back garden patio. The first day we had a delicious omelette, the second day we had whole wheat flour pancakes with local berries, and the third day we had a fantastic frittata. Every breakfast included coffee, orange juice and fresh fruit from the area.
Serenata is an ideal spot for a tranquil--yet not isolated--and romantic getaway. The rooms are not cheap, but considering the deluxe accommodation, the friendly hospitality, the superb location with a view of the lake, and the fact that it was high season, this B&B was excellent value. I highly recommend it and can't wait to go back!
Many thanks to Colleen and Jake.
