“Delicious Pulled Pork!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 24, 2013

We went to The Black Iron Grill (attached to the Days Inn) last Saturday evening and had the Pulled Pork with yam fries. FANTASTIC. They have a smoker in the back, and they smoke their own pork (for ribs and pulled pork sandwiches) Wow!
Service was excellent. The Meal was fantastic.
Nice patio with fresh herbs and flower very nice touch.

“Good food, poor service.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2013

We went to the Black Iron for a birthday dinner. After waiting at the front entrance for quite some time, we were seated and our server disappeared. She showed up 5 minutes or so later and seamed surprised that we wanted menus. They have a smorg on Sunday evenings and she assumed that is what we were wanting. I asked for water and the other 3 in our party ordered wine. The wine came but no water. After asking another server, we were all served water. Our food was served but no baked potato fixings were offered until about 15 minutes into the meals. This was our second visit to the Black Iron and we will go elsewhere when seeking a good steak in future - the steak was very good but the service just made the experience frustrating.

“Surprisingly good!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2013 via mobile

I don't file many reviews, despite travelling for business quite a bit - unless it's really good or really bad.

This place comes in the former category and just goes to show that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover.

It was a Wednesday night and quiet when I entered, although I nearly didn't go inside - it is attached to a hotel, doesn't look great from the outside and the displayed menu was a little uninspiring.

The steak and lobster was pretty good value at $25 and I was impressed that they delivered the steak rare, as requested - too many places seem a bit frightened to serve raw steak.

The White House wine is local and terrific, but what finally prompted my review was the pear and raisin crumble. Wow.

This must qualify as a hidden Penticton gem!

“Not open Monday & Tuesday :-(”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 28, 2013

the weather was cool and rainy when we arrived in Penticton and being that we had arrived late afternoon, we were pleased that there was a restaurant at our hotel "Days Inn" so that we could just dine close to our room and relax for the evening however the restaurant was posted as not being open Monday and Tuesday.

“piece de resistance”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 23, 2013

we were referred to this restaurant for a good steak, and it certainly did. we went a second time for their prime rib dinner on sunday night and i was very surprised with the chicken that was offered as part of their smorg. i suggested to the chef that he have a chicken night. it was..... well a piece of resistance. you will not be disappointed. we will visit here every time we are in penticton.
