Description: Named after the rare and reclusive North American duck that shares its name (and flew onto the restaurant patio during name selection) the Hooded Merganser is a culinary and architectural masterpiece that straddles Okanagan Lake to offer panoramic views of the lake and mountains.Inside, the décor is luxurious, the atmosphere is casual and the menu diverse yet surprisingly reasonable: contemporary local cuisine and phenomenal views of the Okanagan Valley.

“With these amazing views, the food is barely an issue”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2013

Let's face it you come to this strangely named restaurant for the views, both of the stunning lake that's right in front of you and the amazing looking waitresses who show up when they feel like it. The food is an afterthought, and it's not at all bad but somewhat generic, small portioned and overpriced... if it was anywhere but a location like this this review would be POOR rated at best. The restaurant itself is architecturally stunning, and if you go on a wonderful midsummer day with a breeze coming off the lake the fact that you're paying through the nose, you've spent two hours to get through your basic meal, and you'll leave hungry is not THAT much of a factor. This restaurant is all sights and no taste. So what... It's a must-see anyway.

“Nice spot for both locals and tourists”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2013 via mobile

Not a bad table in the whole place but ask for a table facing down the lake for a fabulous view. We were there for late lunch. My husband had the Hood ground sirloin burger. Plenty to eat and great flavour. I ordered the lamb burger along with a Caesar salad . The dressing on the salad was one of the best I have had in a restaurant in a long time. Unfortunately the lamb burger was tough. The server was very attentive and a Hood burger was soon in front of me as a substitute.
Good selection of wines and beer. Some wines by 5 or 8oz or by bottle.
Service good, not rushed but prompt when we asked for the bill.

“An enjoyable group lunch”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 13, 2013

The restaurant itself is in a very nice location just in front of Penticton s large hotel and convention centre. It's right on the waterfront with great views. The staff are efficient and friendly and the menu is interesting with a good selection to choose from. The various dishes ordered by our group of eight, all looked tasty and very generous servings. My own choice was very tasty. All in all a little bit pricey, but a good experience. I would recommend this restaurant.

“Awful croissant”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2013 via mobile

Service was slow. It took a while to get our coffee and that was unbelievable as it was breakfast time and the restaurant should have many pots of coffee brewing.

The eggs benedict was ok, the eggs with steak was fine. The potatoes that came with it were very crispy and yummy.

The major let down was the croissant. It was shaped like one, but two sizes two big and it was not flaky at all. It was like bread in the shape of an overgrown croissant. Not good.

“Dinner with a view....”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2013

The only restaurant truly 'on the water' in Penticton this one's a gem. If the weather's nice, sit on the patio - the breeze is nice and the view of Lake Okanagan is absolutely the best! Great food, and good service. We come here often.
