I needed a place to stay for a couple of nights and it turned out ok. After reading reviews, I chose to request a room on the top floor ( fourth floor) on the Columbia street side, which faces the Fraser river. I was there a Tuesday and Wednesday so the milage may differ on the weekend, but I had reasonable sleeps on a good bed ( king) with light traffic sounds from the street below my window. I enjoyed waking up to the sunup over the Fraser river and the hills beyond.
This hotel is old, but spruced up. The rates reflect, I think a pretty moderate rate, given you are dealing with some old and some new fittings and such. The bedroom was nicely appointed, with nothing to gripe about at all. On the other hand the bathroom had an nice new sink and vanity, but an older tub and a towel rack ( and electric heater frame) that predates Led Zeppelin. I think the staff I dealt with did a good job, and I would stay there again, however the upgrade path for this somewhat funky, comfy hotel will include completing the makeover of the rooms to a current standard of soap-dish. ( for example). Finally, as I said the price is moderately low, so the money I saved on the room itself went into wine and a good dinner. I ate in the pub one night, fins and chips were ok.

Room tip: Top floor worked for me, on the river side.

The Met, New Westminster is a well run reasonably priced hotel with friendly and accommodating staff. We have stayed there three times when visiting family and have always found the rooms to be clean. It is centrally located and very close to the skytrain for downtown Vancouver.

Room tip: Ask for a front room if you do not want to hear the skytrain.

I stayed at The Met during a transition time between moving out and flying overseas for work after it was recommended by a friend, and it was a mistake. The building is nice, the staff seemed decent (at first), and the rooms were clean and spacious, but the hotel is located above a pub which rendered sleep impossible every night I was there. At one point there was honest-to-god banjo music coming up from downstairs, along with a bunch of drunks singing something they thought was music until around 2am. When I mentioned the noise to staff, with one notable exception they seemed indifferent, almost as if I should have assumed it would be loud. The pub is owned by a different entity, and my understanding is that the hotel has little if any control over the noise they generate down there. (at one point it was a private party, as if that makes it ok)

The old fashioned air conditioning unit likely exacerbated the noise as it was more like a forced hole in the wall rather than a luxury item. Blasting it (and I hate AC) to try and serve as "white noise" didn't help. And yes, I was wearing earplugs.

I did eat in the pub, and the food was lackluster, so it didn't even have that going for it.

Although this was an ignorant hotel guest and not technically the hotel's fault, after precious few hours of rough sleep I was awoken by someone in the floor's common area blasting sailor shanties. It just added to the frustration.

FYI if you have back issues or anything: the mattress was definitely on the hard side. I'm not factoring this into why I didn't enjoy my stay, just mentioning it for those it may be important to.

I will not stay here again.

Decent Rooms. Clean. Friendly staff.
Pub downstairs. Had good wings. Bloody hot but good.
Bed was a little hard. And there is a sky train station behind. I slept through it.
Lots of transit near it. Short trip to shopping by sky train or walking even.

My partner and I are both dependant on our power mobility devices. On arrival the managers son assisted us getting our car unloaded and everything into the hotel. He even met me in the parkade and helped me unload my mini scooter.
The only minus to this hotel is the parking which is across the street. Room was comfortable, quiet, and well laid out.
