My party of five stayed here for one night prior to getting the ferry back to the BC mainland. Dave and Marlene make you feel very welcome and run a great inn. We had a one-bedroomed suite with two beds in the bedroom and a sofa bed in the lounge/kitchen. The suite was fine with good kitchen facilities. The inn is located on the outskirts of Nanaimo, quite a walk from the town centre but it is a great base for exploring the area. There is a small outside shopping centre about a mile away on the top of the hill.

I spent four nights and was very happy. I travel on my own a fair bit for work. I don't always feel at ease in hotels/motels, but felt secure and comfortable at the Buccaneer. The room was clean and fresh. And the host and staff were very nice.

Now I'm a cynical Brit' and I have to say that my wife and I were gobsmacked by the Bucc' Inn.

Big big rooms, a real sense of the personal touch and low low prices.

In this day and age it's a pleasure to come across somewhere where the owners obviously care.

Easy stroll into downtown, a couple of decent pubs over the road and comfy beds to crash out in.

I'd have no qualms about using it again.

Well done guys, keep it up.

Yes a budget Motel, Yes huge suite syle rooms, yes all the ammenities, yes walking distance to Nanaimo's historic downtown area, and yes a great deal and wonderful hosts.

We know it is a budget motel, but with all the right touches. The rooms are huge with a separate bedroom and living room/kitchen area (fully equipped). The bed was very comfortable with wonderful duvet and tasteful nauticle themed appointments.

This was our last two days on the Island and the proximity to downtown and the ferry terminal made the exit plan most enjoyable and stress free. We took the walk into the city and had a delightful day exploring. We never even started the car.

Staying at this motel was like staying with friends. The owners were very committed to our comfort and satisfation.

A hearty thumbs up and we look forward to a repeat visit.

To the owners, thank you.

We found the Buccaneer Inn via an internet search engine, how lucky we were, from the excellent communications to the warm welcome and the friendly departure we could not have made a better choice. The purpose of our visit was to relax, get over jet lag and start enjoying our holiday.

We stayed for three nights and although The Buccaneer is a motel and we were on foot it did not spoil our stay.

First impression, the motel is well maintained and with the gardens and flower boxes in full bloom this really gave the impression of home from home and not just another concrete and tarmac jungle. The room was clean and well equipped with homely trimmings, complimentary tea and coffee as well as a number of soft drinks available to purchase; this certainly let you settle in without having to run out and get supplies.

With regard to other trip advisor comments about noise, yes there is a little, our room was probably in one of the most susceptible areas being on the corner of the motel, we stayed during one of the busiest weekends with queuing traffic waiting for the ferries, we had no problems sleeping with just the window closed in the lounge area to the front of our room, the window in the bedroom was left open, there is also a door between the bedroom and the lounge area should another barrier be required.

As said earlier we were on foot but this posed no problems for our stay, a supermarket and local shops were a short walk away, Dave did not tell us that crampons and Sherpa’s were required for the climb!! (Quite a steep hill) local pubs and restaurants’ as well as a really good coffee shop were a short walk away.

Looking out from the room was an ever changing view of the channel, with many movements of small boats as well as float planes coming and going.

Would we return to the Buccaneer, most defiantly, it fully met our requirements, clean, comfortable, good value for money with excellent staff, you could be as private and un-interrupted as you want or have some good chats with Dave, we put the world to rights on a couple of occasions
