Hughes during a time when agricultural land was plentiful.Since 1984 the Gebert Familys use sustainable farming practices on their 76 acre vineyard to produce wines that reflect the terroir of the north Okanagan Valley under the St Hubertus & Oak Bay Label. In 2003 the Okanagan Mountain Wild Fire destroyed the original winery and over 200 houses. « less

“Surprisingly high quality, flavourful wines and wonderful people”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 27, 2010

My wife and I were in Kelowna on 23 May and went to this vineyard, curious about the name. This is not a pretentious setup, but it is highly professional and the owners - originally from Switzerland - are very accommodating. We bought some of their wines which compare favourably to the very good French varietals with which we are familiar. To date, this is the only winery that has such comparable wines, and we have toured extensively in the Okanagan and in Europe. We can't tell you exactly which wine we selected because we want the stock to keep. Let us say that all the reds we tasted were good value for money.

This winery doesn’t have the glitz and glam like some of the others we have been to, it does have a relaxed feel and isn't so caught up in itself as some of the bigger wineries around.

In 2003, St. Hubertus was hit by the devastating Okanagan Mountain fire. On display-are pictures showing how bad the damage was to the winery and the original structures dating back to the 1800's. It has been beautifully rebuilt and has a tasting room/gift shop (nice & cool in the summer away from the heat!) where we learned more about the wonderful wines by very informed staff. They expertly led us through the tasting-letting us know what to expect from each wine and what foods they best paired with. Of the 3 we visited that day this was by far the best tasting experience. There is no restaurant on site, but there are picnic tables outside where you can sit and enjoy the lake and vineyard views. Although we did like numerous wines we had to scale back our purchases this trip due to lack of luggage space, so we limited ourselves to purchasing a bottle of their 2008 gewürztraminer. I would definitely recommend stopping in on your travels as there are many lovely wines to try (and purchase ;-)
