I was very hesitant when I had to stay in Kamloops for 2 nights. All the bad reviews. All the horrible, run down, smoke saturated old rooms. And Bed Bugs?? I stayed here once before, and some in our group stayed at a horrible, dark hotel down town. The Howard Johnson. Just brutal. I was fortunate to stay at the clean, basic Super 8. It was nothing special, and the service was less than warm. I was afraid to book anything through Hotwire or Priceline, because there are so many junk hotels in this town. I had work at the Convention Center, and just walked up to reception and asked if there was any room. Every site I checked before I came showed this hotel as on the higher price side. I typically stay at Delta Hotels, it was cheaper, so I was prepared to drive up to Sun Peaks. But that would have been quite a drive out of town, when I had to work in town. To my surprise, not only did they have a room, the price was much lower than what was listed on all the web sites. I checked in quickly. There is no Wireless Internet, but they gave me a cable without any fuss or charge. The Internet is fast and stable - which ended up being critical because of some last moment work that came up. I opened the door, and found a large, clean room. Work table, fridge, 42" flat screen. The washroom is not marble or granite, but it is clean and a good size. The courtyard is really nice. I did not get a chance to use the restauraunt or other facilities, so I can't comment on them. But if the room, reception, and other areas are any indication, I am sure they are very good as well.
Short walk to Tim Hortons. Crappy sports bar across the road. But a little longer walk to some nice places. Outside of downtown, and off the busy streets and highways, so there was little noise and traffic. The only negative I could pass on is really nothing they can change. My room was at the far end of the hall, next to the exit door. And when people leave, I could hear the door bang shut. But that was the only noise I heard. Pretty good, because I noticed that there were some teenagers in the next room. Sadly, a group I am traveling with has booked a different hotel for a trip here in the next few months. After this stay, I am going to do anything I can to switch into this Hotel. I highly recommend it.

We are another couple who were put in this hotel as part of our Rocky Mountaineer experience. We had been told it would be a 2 or 3 star hotel. As we had no idea we would be staying here we had no idea that the hotel would have pool facilities.

We were pleasantly surprised by our room. It had 2 queen size beds in a room overlooking the pools. We did not experience any noise from that area and had a comfortable nights sleep.

As part of our package we had dinner in the ORA restaurant. The food was excellent and a special thanks have to go to our waitress Carly who put up with 2 couples, 1 from Australia and 1 from Northern Ireland who were on their funny half hour. Carly provided excellent service, was friendly and has a great sense of humour, she made the whole dinner experience fun.

We had a "pet friendly" room for 2 nights. Probably outdated, but clean.

Room service was INCREDIBLY fast with great food. Restaurant was casual...great service..excellent drinks. (pizza had too much sauce..but ribs appy's were to die for!) and Breakfast was nice and HOT.

Pool was clean and quiet. No pics sorry :o(

Liquor store was nice to have :o)

Pub across the street was overcrowded and LOUD if you are into that sort of thing. They had an AC/DC tribute band there LOL. Nothing to do with the lodge ..but just wanted to mention that there is some "night life" close.

I and my family stayed here for two nights. The first night the internet and the cable went out and stayed off until late morning! What a farce! Three kids and my husband stuck in a room with nothing to do or watch. When we asked for a discount on our second night the lobby staff claimed that it was a problem outside the hotel and wouldn't give it to us. However, my husband called the Travel Lodge across the street and they had no problems with their services. The hallways are shabby and being renovated and though they make a claim that the beds are name brand when we pulled back the sheets and checked the label we found that they definitely weren't.

The pool and hot tub were nice - clean and set at a good temperature. I'm not sure if the pool caused rashes on the kids - could have been the -16 temperature outside. I've stayed here a couple of times and distinctly remember once when I had a courtyard room how awful the chlorine smell was. That wouldn't be a problem now with the reduced chemicals.

We didn't eat at the Forster's Restaurant on site but heard from another couple that the buffet was pretty good. It should be at $20 a plate.

Management response from Timrodgers, General Manager
(Management representative)
Feb 7, 2009
The Cable for our Television and internet was cut during a robbery at the near by pub. We get our internet and television from the same provider. Travelodge has a differnent internet provider than us.

We are in the middle of new hallway carpets and our bordering is late arriving. The Courtyard has been repainted and we did purchase 150- new beds. We use Serta Perfect Sleeper mattresses.

Hotel rooms are thick with a cleaning solution smell. We had to let the front desk know we wanted the sheet changed on one of the beds as it had a yellow stain on it. We've stayed here at least
5 times but it seems to be getting worse every time so won't be going back.

Management response from Timrodgers, Manager
(Management representative)
Jan 28, 2009
We are sorry of the smell during their stay. We were painting the stairwells during that week and the latex and oil paint smell must have gotten into the floors more than anticipated. This smell maybe with our air freshner could have created an unusual smell. We use a biodegradable non perfumed cleaner in all our rooms to ensure that no chemical smell or allergies could bother our guests (part of our Green Hotel program).
