“Best place to stay in Chemainus!”

You can never be sure what to expect when you go to a bed and breakfast but in this case you can be assured that your stay will be an amazing one. First of all it is beautiful and you can tell instantly how much thought and effort has been put in to every detail of the castle. It is an amazing experience with a wonderful host. The breakfast was lovely it is a quick walk to the ocean and the atmosphere is amazing. I would stay here again anytime!

we went to Vancouver Island and found this wonderful escape minutes from the ocean in Chemainus !! The Castle was simply unbeliveable I have never even stayed in a hotel this nice and to top it off it was completly private and you feel pampered .. Harriet was an incredible host that left us a wonderful breakfast basket that was fit for a king! You absolutely will not regret staying here I have pre booked for next year in advance !!

Room Tip: we stayed in the castle but saw all rooms and they were all wonderful

Harriet is a personable woman whose home and surroundings are so lovely that it is hard to believe it is so close to town! The beach is probably 1 minute away and the decor is so romantic! small nooks with greens and trees, even fresh roses in the room from the lovely garden.
I cannot speak too highly of this place and the owner. Harriet alone is worth knowing, much less the lovely spot she has opened to the travelling public for rest and relaxation like no other I've been to. We will defiantly be back!!

Room Tip: there is no Bad room. They all have unique loveliness...it was hard to choose!

A really unique bed and breakfast. We had a relaxing vacation and it was so nice being in the castle because it was a separate building from the main house.Definitely one of the nicest places we have ever stayed.

This was the quaintest most romantic place I have ever stayed.
You truly do feel royal, from the tub to the high bed the breakfast that arrives in a basket , truly spoiled .
Our hosts were so friendly and accommodating they allowed my travel partner to use their computer to book his seats on the plane
We definitely want to go back Chemainus is such a cute seaside town , we want to explore more

We literally stumbled upon this B&B, called the owners and yes, it wasn't booked. We stayed three nights and enjoyed our stay immensely. We had the upstairs suite, the Camelot, full with a two-person tub, stone bench in the bathroom, fireplace, a full-size knight armour, kitchen, balcony and a Juliet balcony with view of the sea. Breakfast arrives in an elegantly packed basket in the morning and was exquisite.

Chemainus is a nice little town on Vancouver Island and known for its murals and summer arts . Close by is Duncan, the totem poles city, and Nanaimo. Victoria is only an hour south. It's a perfect place for an anniversary, for a honeymoon, to propose or just to discover Vancouver Island.

In the quiet oceanside town of Chemainus BC, you would hardly expect to be transported back to Medieval Ages, live in a castle, dine like royalty and be treated like a king and queen but that is exactly what to expect if you're lucky enough to find vacancy at Castlebury Cottage. This "castle" is actually an old house renovated and decorated to look and feel like a small European castle. Everything from the ivy covered brick/stone exterior, to the wrought iron balconies, window treatments, leaded glass panes, suit of armour tucked into a corner, ancient books of love letters and poems scattered here and there, royal purple velvet covered couches and beds, a jacuzzi tub for 2, and the list goes on. We arrived to find our names and a welcome note posted on the cathedral shaped door of the cottage and soft celtic music playing throughout. Softly lit with vintage lamps and medieval style candles proved that the hosts, Virginia and Larry have thought of everything and obviously delight in their business. Not only are they perfect hosts, but excellent chefs as well. We were in awe of the breakfasts which were delivered to our door in a wicker basket, covered in battenburg lace and exquisitely presented. Dishes such as: starfruit salad with goat cheese & mint, heart shaped waffles with fresh berry sauce, scones with peach compote and creme fraiche, scrambled eggs baked in a whole wheat tortilla and topped with smoked salmon and gruyere cheese sauce. Each of these creations was usually topped with edible flowers and fresh herbs. You seldom receive this quality at the finest dining establishments. If you want to be blown away, stay here but be prepared to never want to leave.
