Grouse Ridge B&B is a very comfortable country B&B that we visited in Feb 2006. I picked it from the BC B&B list because it features a "Bookcrossing Shelf", so I wasn't entirely sure what to expect. But every vacation should have adventure in it, so we booked for two days and stayed for three!
Housed in the brand new wing of an old farm house, it features all the modern amenities, including ensuite bathrooms, room by room electric heat and comfortable beds in clean simple rooms. Our room was decorated in soft neutrals with whimsical rustic touches, like barn board shelves with genuine deer antlers made into clothing hooks. I especially appreciated the duvet and being able to turn down the heat and snuggle in - it was just like sleeping in our own bed ... only quieter.
Unlike some B&B, there is a separate entrance for guests. You can come and go at any time of the day or night without disturbing anyone.
The large acreage is quiet and beautiful. There are magnificent mountain views from every window in the dining room, guest-living-room and from the spacious back deck. Even though we were there in the middle of winter, the roads were ploughed all the way to the house. It is only a few minutes by car from Osoyoos. But the contrast is quite remarkable ... country/town, mountain/valley climate.
The food is absolutely wonderful and served with good conversation and laughter. Wilf has a few chickens, so the eggs are truly farm fresh. Carol makes what is quite possibly the best Eggs Benedict I have ever had - even better than what the restaurants serve in the Market area of downtown Ottawa. Every breakfast was served with a generous portion of fresh fruit or vegetables - which is something I really appreciated.
My husband and I felt very pampered without being overwhelmed. Very good value for your travelling dollar!
