“Inexpensive but in the process of updating.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2012

The hotel is in a good location and looks nice from the outside. The lobby and breakfast area are in good shape but the room we had was dated. However, it looks like they are working on re-doing the rooms albeit not all at once. Our room had a brand new full sized fridge and a great new large flat screen TV with cable. We had a new shower curtain but the rest of the room was showing its age. There was good internet included as well as a decent (but maybe not "flashy") continental breakfast included. Staff were very good and friendly/helpful. At the end of the day you get what you pay for. This hotel was a lot cheaper then others in the area. They appear to be working on updating the rooms and I suspect that when the hotel is up to par with the new hotels that the price will go up as well.

We had a problem with our Volvo. Bad news out of town, $$$ anywhere. Managers helped in search for local mechanic on Sunday. Retook, etc. Great is my definition of emergency response.

I hesitated before booking this hotel, but realised the reviews from the last year were good, and that the bad reviews were older. We are a family of 5 with three young children. Booked one room through booking.com. there was a problem with the booking but it was resolved on check in by speaking to the manager. The room was clean and spacious. The front desk was helpful. Breakfast was very good (just as advertised in their website, except they ran out of hard boiled eggs). The pool is still not open. And it only cost 87 CAD including tax. Forget about the old bad reviews. The place is more than fine.

This hotel has once again changed hands, and is now under major renovations. The new managers are aware of the problems they face, but are confident that they will have the hotel up to good standards within a couple of months. From the previous comments, it certainly looks like they have their work cut out for them, but the rooms that they have available seem to be redone, and don't seem to match what the others have said, so I guess they are making some good progress.

No one did anything about the pool yet though (I see that it's been shut for a long time from reading the rest of the reviews), so that might take a while to fix, if it's been down as long as it seems to have been.

The hotel changed ownership in October of last year. We are trying our best to address the needs of our guests. The pool has been in a state of disrepair for a long time but we do have some exciting plans for it and hopefully our guests will enjoy the end result. Thank you for your review.

We have stayed at the Thriftlodge every time we went through Lethbridge (3 times). It is your typical lowcost motel insofar as appearance and decor. The service people are exceptionally friendly. Despite being adjacent to a major throughway it is quiet. It is right across the street from a huge city park complete with Japanese flower gardens and a lake with a walking/running pathway at least 5K in length. For a continental breakfast the assortment is awesome. Lots of muffins and cereals and bagels and breads. Apples and bananas and excellent coffee. Once humorous point is they have a real Canadian maple syrup container filled with cheap sugar syrup which is sold in most stores and acceptable to most people, just not real syrup from a maple tree. Not sure what Honeybunches problem was unless they were expecting a Mariott. Dog friendly too !

Room Tip: Two story L shape -- all rooms about equal.

As i drove down to Lethbridge my thoughts couldn't drift from the terrible reviews i read before leaving. Yet writing this review sitting in said hotel relaxing in my room ,i feel all the worry was for not, with views of scribbled walls and bug infested beds in my head i was relieved to walk into a clean room, with all the promised amenities. it was everything it was online. Fair price for good room, no 4 star hotel, but honestly with this price, its hard not to be happy. Obviously the new management is doing something right.
