Greetings fellow Trip Advisor travellers!!
We would recommend this place. If you like rustic and not expensive then this place is for you- as it was for us. We just got back yesterday evening.
Motel Room-
No tv, no radio, no phone. Think cabin-like and this is what you will have! $74 Canadian Dollars (including 4% hotel tax and %6 GST tax) was WONDERFUL and just what we wanted to pay (we were feeling cheap but wanted descent surroundings).
We had never been to the Miette Hot Pool before- and it is next door (walk 1 - 3 minutes). We are hot pool fans, and wanted to try it out. The Miette Hot Pool has 4 pools, and 2 we know are hot. Unsure about the other 2. Nice open feel to the pools. Lockers are $1 Canadian Looney- cashiers at the pool have change. Change rooms are clean. Shower I had sprayed me too much (hair). Cold breeze across the pool, because it is open (Radium Hot Pool in Radium, B.C. is more sheltered).
Anyways, back to the Miette Hot Springs Resort -
Check-in- Guy was nice on the phone when I called (1-780-866-3750- I did not see Trip Advisor list the number and you should have it so you are prepared.
((Jasper and the road going there are isolated so take food, clothing for variable weather, water, etc.). Also, I would travel to our Rocky Mountains in a well-running and well-maintained car- goes without saying, but we felt quite isolated up there and were glad our car runs well. Miette is 45 minutes from Jasper. Because of construction (several points along the way) and our practice of stopping each hour, it took us 8 hours to drive from Calgary. I'm letting you know these things because I have gotten many many wonderful tips from this website, and I want to give back.))
Check-in continued- good, got our room. I found the guy's tone to be a bit "short" , however he was also a kitchen helper or even chef and the food was great. Anyways, we got a clean (very clean) cheap room in the motel section of the "resort". Cabins looked fine on the outside. They are more expensive. Motel room we had with no kitchen was $74. Motel rooms with kitchens are about $15 more. By the way, the resort is open from May to the end of Canadian Thanksgiving ( this year - October 8th). The resort is not open all year long.
Food/Diningroom Experience- 4 Stars* out of 5. Now, this is almost as good of a "hunting lodge" feel as there is in the Banff Springs Hotel. Smaller though. This was the best part of our stay at Miette Hot Springs Resort. We saw other fellow Miette Resorters in the dinning room, and even shared a swimming pool discount coupon with a nice family from Edmonton.
Room itself- basic, as I mentioned, no tv, no radio, no phone. Bring a radio- not sure what receptions you will get. The resort probably can save $ by not having to import cable and keep up the expenses of the above mentioned items. You can hear people talking outside your motel room door, but, things are muffled through the walls. I wish my home was as clean as this motel room- bathroom floor gleamed. Older green turf type carpet inside was very clean. The little heater by the window threw enough heat- yes, the amount of heat coming is not scientifically measured like it is in our home, but we were warm and the temperature outside was near freezing. The pellets of snow/rain on the roof, along with the wind in the trees, made the cabin-like feel of the room really wonderful. There are ends of cabin poles/wood in the room that really really give you the feel of being in a cabin in the woods. And, really you are!!
Check-out- very excellent. An older lady (we think she may be the owner) gave us 2 for 1 on the gifts from the gift store (I think she wanted to get rid of end-of season stuff). We saw a small grocery section with cereals and such there too.
So, enjoy your trip to Jasper and Miette. I think I have told you what we experienced. Safe journey. Remember the weather in the mountains, especially "shoulder season" and "low season" can be variable. It snowed and rained on October 2nd when we drove back. We also took sleeping bags and pillows, which we kept in the car- just in case. Jasper has a couple of grocery stores so you can re-stock up on food for your drive back.
Safe journey, fellow Trip Advisor Travellers!!
