“Advantages to cabins over motels”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 3, 2013

After staying at many motels during our trip through the Rockies, staying at small cabins like these have their advantages. Instead of the family all in one room in most motels, at the cabins we could have separate bedrooms and a living room folding out couch. The couch was challenging to open up, and it would be great if staff would find out ahead of time if people need it and open it out for them. We did find the double beds ok but not the most comfortable. There is no climate control other than one portable fan and screened windows (although there were some holes in one screen). Having a full kitchen is great as a break from eating out all the time. No dining table, just ledge with chairs. Many people ate at the picnic tables or chairs outside but it could get buggy. Our cabin had no drawers so we kept our things in our suitcases on the floor. Lodge is at edge of town so walking distance to grocery, liquor store, restaurants although long walk if carrying anything. Driving and parking in Jasper not as bad as Banff. These are not wilderness cabins so open windows will pick up noise. Laundromat in separate building was great, and front desk sells laundry soap. Staff were friendly. We had wireless internet from our cabin but the quality was frustratingly poor most of the time, kept cutting off, very slow. Facilities were very clean and visually attractive. Breakfast at the registration building was good, but not free. Meals also available right next door at Best Western.

Room Tip: cabins in back towards woods would be quieter than ones on main road

We stayed here for a long weekend and I was very impressed. Both our room and our friends room was spotless, it couldn't have been cleaner! I found the bed, and the pillows, to be extremly comfortable. We stayed in the Forester Cabin, it is very small but was perfect for myself and my husband, it also had a nice gas fireplace which was great since the mornings were a little cool. Since this room doesn't have a kitchenette a complimentary breakfast was included. The breakfast doesn't include any hot items but does have freshly baked cheese scones, muffins, blueberry scones and amazing granola. I would highly recommend this property!

We were able to get a room at the last minute for the busy July long weekend at a great price. The Colin room was clean and comfortable. Some reviews stated the beds were hard, but I found them comfortable. I suppose that is just personal preference. The location is removed from the hustle of the main roads, but still within walking distance to restaurants and shopping. I will stay there again.

Stayed for 3 nights in early June, accomodation was nice and kitchen was nice size, though slightly frustrating that the table was fixed making the kitchen smaller. Would have been hard to sit 4 at the table. Our chalet had the wireless hub in it which was broken and whistling at the time, which although frustrating the management tried to fix quickly and dealt with this very well. Bedrooms were very small, but enoguh space elsewhere for luggage.

These cabins are spotlessly clean and the perfect location to stroll into town for dinner and breakfast. Fiddler restaurant did amazing food (recommended by bear hill) and coffee from the little place onto opposite side of the road to th cold stone creamery is the best we have ever had- we loved our time here.

The location of the place is very good, close to the center but still quit. There are Elks wondering around which was very exciting. The cabins are nice, but the kitchen is very small and uncomfortable. We were 7 so we took two rooms, but there wasn't a place for everybody to sit and eat. The Wi-Fi is very weak and unreliable, you only get limited access so you need to go back and ask for more. The hotel staff are very kind and helpful.

Bear Hill Lodge comes across as a no frills place that appeals to all. Cabins were neat and adequate. TV was not necessary (had been a while since I saw grainy pictures on the TV). The lodge is in a great location -- Walking distance to all restaurants in the town of Jasper. Highlight of our stay was breakfast... The lodge makes their own bread, scones etc.. So, it was indeed a treat to have healthy & wholesome first meal before setting out on day hikes in the area.
