“Food to die for!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 16, 2011

This has been my second stay at the Overlander and both times the food has been top notch along with the friendly courteous service.
Lucious was our waiter and bartender and is very friendly and entertaining...he made our evening even more enjoyable.
The accomodations are lovely and the area itself is very quiet and relaxing.
There are no TV's or radios so you can enjoy a quiet peaceful evening away from the hussle and bussle of everyday life.
The fireplace in the lobby is the perfect place to have a cocktail after dinner and relax listening to the crackle of the wood fireplace.

Our group of 4 stayed here in 2 cabins for 2 nights. Each cabin had 2 queen beds and a fireplace, cabins are basic, but are very clean, and are a good size, plenty of room for luggage, and there is a small seperate room off the bedroom which has a desk and coffee maker. Bathroom is very small but, it is nice and modern. The cabins do not have tv, phone, wifi or a fridge. The area is beautiful and quiet, there are lots of decks and sitting areas were you can sit and enjoy the mountain view. We dined at their restaurant on 1 night and the food was delicious, we each had 3 courses and each was delicous. It cost about $350 for 4 people icluding alcohol, waitress was lovely and attentive. Hotel is 15min drive to hinton and about 45min to jasper. The only cons were, that although they had free wifi in the lobby the signal was weak and connection kept dropping out. also selection at breakfast was limited, i would have liked more variety. Also at dinner they put the tip onto the bill, although i always tip i would like to be given the option to decide. Overall a wonderful stay and we all would have liked to stay longer.

We stayed 2 nights at the OML and the bill was in excess of $500. These little rooms are not worth half that amount. There are few amenities, such as no TV, no phone, no in-room WiFi, no microwave, no mini-fridge, no ice machine, plus an over priced restaurant to boot. I should mention that you can get ice from the waitress, but she runs the bar, waits on tables and who knows what else. I had to wait to get something that I usually get myself.

So you're reading this and you say to yourself, "Why would he go to the mountains and want to watch TV or get on his laptop"? Well, you book this room to get a view and you get that, along with the noise of semi-trucks going up and down the VERY close highway. To make matters worse, the park entrance is just up the road, so you get to listen to engine brakes and accelerating trucks. They tout the lack of TV and phone as being an amenity, so you can enjoy a "relaxing stay". Trust me, a little TV noise is welcome over the truck noise and besides, I don't have to turn it on if I don't want to. Lets be honest here, they don't offer them because it costs money.

We actually started to go to the restaurant, but a quick look at the menu, changed our minds. I can't bring, myself to pay $30 for a seared chicken breast or $12 for a continental breakfast. Also, this statement at the bottom of the menu really turned me off. "Stone Peak Restaurant reserves the right to add 15% gratuity to guests not familiar with the local customs" I always tip 15-20%, but if I don't like the service they'll hit me with that anyway, because I don't "understand" their customs??? Here's a tip. If your customers aren't offering an acceptable level of gratuity, maybe you need to look at your service. Based on other reviews here, this might just be the problem.

To be fair, the rooms and the surrounding grounds were very clean and well kept. I realize they aren't in control of the highway noise, but the rooms should be priced accordingly. They are in most other places.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that doesn't face the highway. I don't think you can eliminate that much nois...

We stayed for two nights over the long weekend. Hotel was full, but we still felt we were alone. Dinner was superb and a great value. Service was outstanding. Stayed in the the actual lodge with a mountain view (highly recommend the extra cost)

Room Tip: Lodge Mountain view

This hotel is a gem, great building of log construction, well maintained with a great restaurant facility (the only one around)
The hotel advetises its location as JASPER EAST Alberta when in fact it is located in Hinton Alberta about one hour's drive from Jasper.
We probably would not have selected this hotel had we realised that it was that far from Jasper,it took us out of way as we were travelling on to Kamloops the next morning,it added 2 hours of driving time to our trip.
We enjoyed the facility but found the location too distant and isolated, the rate somewhat excessive..The restaurant is first class.

Thank you for your review and we're happy you enjoyed your stay here. There has been a lot of confusion lately about our location and I would like to provide some clarification. We are located in Jasper East which neither in the townsite of Jasper or the townsite of Hinton. It is at the East edge of the Jasper National Park just past the East park gates on Highway 16. The lodge and our accommodations are completely on their own with a handful of private summer homes and we are surrounded by mountains and forest. The drive from the Jasper townsite is 50 KM and is through the Jasper National Park. There is a high concentration of wildlife (not guaranteed you will see them but likely), forest, mountains, rivers and lakes. I have done the drive everyday for years and it still amazes me. If you choose to stay with us then you will have to drive to get to Jasper. The drive you will do though might be the exact reason you came to the park in the first place, to see the natural beauty of the Canadian Rockies. I hope that helps and if you have any questions please call us and we will be happy to answer any questions you may have.

I wanted to wisk my wife away for some alone time. Upon arrival we were greeted by charming female hotel staff who did her best to make us feel welcome. The main lodge was clean and will not stay again due to the following factors and there arre others as well.
1) The walls are not properly insulated/soundproofed and was awoken by the next doors radio playing a reading of Genesis at 09:00am.
2)There is no fan in the bathroom, the towels are positioned behind the door which makes them difficult to use. Bathroom is very small.
3)Totally not worth the price being charged!Upon check-out did not ask how our night was! All he was interested in doing was taking our money. Not even a thanks for the patronage!

Room Tip: Choose a chalet not main building

Since we are a couple we stayed in a single room w/ balcony and a view of the valley. It very much has the feel of getting away from usual life in a city.Chef is very good for dinners I'm sure this is the best restaurant for miles. However probably do better to get breakfast somewhere else, recommend "Soft Rock Cafe" in Jasper. Rooms are comfortable and nice. It was too warm to use the gas fireplace but I'm sure it's nice in winter. Location is forty miles north of Jasper so be aware that you will have that drive back and forth if Jasper is your trips focus, of course it is thru the mountains and valleys. Be sure to go to the hot springs at Miette.
