It's been years (over a decade and a half, actually) since I've last stayed at Patricia Lake Bungalows, and while I enjoyed it then, this trip was even more special. This is a perfect location for a family (or families traveling together, as was our case) to spend some time as a home base while exploring all the tranquil majesty that Jasper has to offer.
We stayed in unit #3 (a Type 4 cabin: queen bed in bedroom, pullout in living room); my sister and her family stayed in unit #10 (a Type 1 cabin: 2 twin beds in bedroom, queen in main living space; they were allowed to have their dog with them in this cabin); my parents stayed in Whistler #2, a large room with 2 queen beds. We had booked quite late and these rooms were all that were available, but they suited our needs perfectly. The staff were wonderful enough to let us look into a couple of other units on our departure that might be even better for us on future stays.
From the moment we checked in, the staff were nothing but friendly, polite and spectacularly accommodating. They absolutely go above and beyond, in my opinion – there were a couple of things we needed help with, and they were wonderful in making those things happen. The grounds are lovely, with a small playground, hot tub, BBQ area and lovely lawns to play on. And of course, the location on the banks of the lake in front of monumental Mt Pyramid just tops it all off.
One should note when considering these reviews that the high reviews this location gets don't necessarily mean it is a 5-star hotel with all the expected amenities... this is a genuinely authentic mountain cabin. The units are neither large nor lavish, but they are comfortable and impeccably clean. Anything different would detract from the peaceful setting and have an entirely different feel to it. All in all, this place is a magnificent place to stay if you are planning to spend some time in Jasper. We will definitely be staying here again (and again and again...).
(In response to another reviewer who complained that it was more than 30 seconds to walk to the lake – I think it entirely depends on how quickly or slowly you move. My parents were in one of the further properties, and it took us and the kids less than 30 seconds to get to the dock from their unit. My parents are slower, so yes, it did take them longer to get there, but even then it was not a long haul by any stretch of the imagination. Also in response to the same review, I agree that the hanging light fixture in our room knocked several of us on the head, given that the table and chairs had to be moved nearer the fireplace in order to pull out the sofabed. The table was kept by the fireplace for the duration of our stay, so we were constantly knocking our head as the fixture was not hanging over the table as originally intended. That was in unit 3; I would recommend replacing with a flush-mount light fixture similar to the one in unit 10 to avoid this problem in the future. All told, a small nuisance that in no way affected our enjoyment the trip.)
