“Great location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 29, 2013

We really enjoyed our stay at the Alpine Village. We had a small doubt-bed chalet, but it was fine for our needs. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean. Although we were near reception on the front lawn, the chalet was quiet. The location next to the river was great for an evening drink but beware the mosquitoes!

The location was beautiful, right on the river, a quiet rustic cabin with wall furnace (some cabins had a wood burning fireplace). We enjoyed being outside of town but close by. The wifi was a bit limited but worked ok (we were in cabin D). There is no restaurant so all meals in town (we didn't have a kitchen cabin). Front desk staff could have been more knowledgeable -- when we asked for a lunch recommendation, she said she didn't eat out much and offered a few choices, not sure if they were open at lunch and then gave us the book of menus. The point was that she should have recommendations prepared for every season for a top-notch experience. We did get a nice tip about a place to look for an elk which was nice.

Room Tip: Book well ahead as they are justly busy

Location: We traveled to Jasper after a stay in Banff (see my review on Hidden Ridge Resort). Jasper’s Alpine Village Cabin Resort is located two miles from downtown Jasper in quiet wooded grounds across the street from the Athabasca River. The area is enchanting and charming. There are Adirondack chairs provided at rivers edge for a peaceful cocktail watching sunset with the occasional float raft passing by. You do have to cross the road from the resort entrance to get to the river but traffic is nominal. The office staff was pleasant and accommodating. The Jasper Tramway is right around the corner 2 ½ miles on Whistler Mountain Rd.

Cabin: We had a difficult time finding availability for the cabin type we wanted. This is such a popular place that I recommend booking your reservations very early on. We started searching for availability for arrival in August and ended up traveling in mid September. Luckily we are flexible and this was where we wanted to stay for five nights in Jasper. We booked the only cabin available with a kitchen and BBQ – the new Executive One Bedroom Cabin built in 2012. What a wonderful place! The cabin is located on the backside of the resort located on the fringe of the woods. The entrance has a foyer with bench for removing shoes and hanging jackets. This opens up to a fully stocked kitchen with stove, microwave, dishwasher, all the electrical appliances needed, granite counter tops and breakfast bar. The living room is cozy and warm with a large wood-burning fireplace that also opens into the bedroom. Plenty of kindling wood is provided. You can only open the fireplace to one room or the other at any one time though. The bathroom is very large with heated floor tiles, which are great on the feet on cold evenings. The bath vessel sink is a large piece of polished petrified wood and the shower can easily accommodate two. The ceilings are very high which gives an open feel to every room of the cabin. We sat most evenings on the deck and grilled on the BBQ watching for animals, following our serene cocktail hour by the river. There is no A/C but living room and bedroom have ceiling fans and plenty of windows to open for cool night breezes.

The office is stocked with small dry grocery supplies and sacks of self-starting charcoal for purchase ($6.00). The Jacuzzi is in a fenced area off of the office and private. Its very large with a changing room and was a great place to unwind after hiking. There is free WiFi but reception is very spotty at best depending on the day of the week and time.

This was a great five-night stay and convenient point to visit Sunwapta and Athabasca Falls, Mt. Cavell, Medicine and Maligne Lake. Robinsons Foods was the most supplied grocery in Jasper on 218 Connaught Dr. and the least expensive gasoline is Esso Gas Station and Avalanche Liquor store (which are one and the same) is at the intersection of 702 Connaught Dr. & Hazel Dr. At this point in our travels a Laundromat was needed so the Coin Clean Laundry at 607 Patricia St. is your best bet. Located in a lower bi-level from the street with an expresso bar.

We loved our stay at Alpine Village with serene atmosphere and neighborly feel!

Room Tip: Executive Deluxe Cabin or cabins on the back side of the property but you really can't go wrong...

Great location and the sort of luxury cabin that makes it hard to leave. This summer was our third visit to Alpine Village and we will be back in the future if we can, too. The kitchen is better than ours at home, the three sleeping areas and pair of bathrooms are perfect for families, Do you like a heated floor in your bathroom? Got it. Dishwasher? Got it. Like to get away from the phone? You don't have to worry here. Great vaulted roof and second story loft. Only a half-hour walk into the townsite so you can leave your vehicle behind. Only room for improvement I can think of would be a dresser in the main floor bedroom (the layout is a little quirky) and a hook on the bathroom door for one's bathrobe. Highway 93A is a little audible from the western cabins but not too bad. You'll love the patio and the 20-person hot-tub (those jets are a nice touch after a day of hiking). Two minute walk to a riverside view of the Athabasca...great sunrises and sunsets. Fantastic!

Room Tip: The deluxe two-story cabins (#34 thru 38) are worth the extra cost!

This selection of cabins across from the Athabasca River is located just the right distance out of town. We were a little concerned that it was on Hwy 93A and that we would have a unit over a garage, but it was quiet, and the upstairs unit was quiet and comfortable with its own balcony. Everything, including the huge hot tub, was clean and functioned well, including the stove and oven in our unit. Hosts Chris and Rena were very personable and helpful; ask them about the story of the couple who locked themselves out on the W balcony one evening. Having to go all the way to the front of the property and past the office to get to the hot tub, changing room, ice and drink machines was a little inconvenient - a secure back gate would solve the problem - and the coffee in the room was pretty bad. We brought back coffee from the Super 8 market in town and used it instead (using paper towels as filters). Although animals were lying low in unusual fall heat, two female elk and an adolescent visited the front lawn area.

Room Tip: There are many units, we were in W, over the family garage that is rarely used so it was quiet. It...

Incredible place.

Very comfortable lodges in a tranquil setting a few minutes outside Jasper.

We looked straight out onto the woods and had a great terrace with seated area.

The view from the lake out the front of the reception across the Athabasca river was truly amazing. A lovely spot.

Only problem was Wifi. We couldn't connect the whole time.

We met up with college friends for a grand hiking adventure in the Canadian Rockies. Alpine Village Resort in Jasper National Park was a delightful place for two couples to relax in after a busy day of exploring. We appreciated the helpful staff, the rustic elegance of cabin #16, having an eat-in kitchen to prepare breakfast and pack lunches. Having a half bath but extra beds in the loft for the taller pair and a double bed downstairs with the lovely full bath meant we had to work out a shower schedule, but it was easily done.

We hit warm weather so didn't avail ourselves of the chance to build a fire inside or barbecue outside, but those amenities were at our disposal.

It was fun to sit on the porch with our coffee in the morning and watch for elf or hang out in the Adirondack chairs by the river in the evening.

Wi-fi was funky, but - hey - we were there to unplug and luxuriate in mother nature, not check our email obsessively.

We would definitely return!

Room Tip: If you stay in one of the front remodeled cabins like our #16, you may have a great view of young el...
