“loved the fairmont jasper hotel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2008

The location and hotel could not have been better. This is really the only place to stay in Jasper that is unique. It is charming and perfectly fits the idea of "luxury in the outdoors"! Service is wonderful. We did not stay at the Banff Springs Fairmont because it seems too huge and ostentacious. The Jasper location, etc however is perfect. The reservation was made through whatahotel.com......I had checked a variety of other on-line sources, but this site was definitely the best in price and immediate response level.

The name, Fairmont, scared me due to its notoriously pricy room rates. But I got a reasonable rate through Expedia at $225. Parking and internet are all free. There are tennis courts and a golf course. You can enjoy kayaking on the beautiful Lake Beauvert. Dining experience at the Meadows with view of the lake reflecting the sunset was one of a kind. Taking a walk around the foggy lake in the early morning made me feel at ease. You can easily spot wild animals.
Very quite and clean. No A/C, but it was cool enough.

Interesting that people have such different impressions of this hotel. We just got back from a 2 night stay and liked it a lot. I definately think that people expecting a typical Fairmont might be dissapointed. The hotel is not that fancy or elegant; rather, it is in a beautiful location, in nature, spread out, and relaxed. We actually liked it better than Fairmont Lake Louise as we found that hotel to be a bit stuffy, and with tiny, old rooms. I also think that, as in every hotel, the rooms vary. We got a fantastic and large room, with a woodburning fire place and large, jecuzzi bath. It seems we got upgraded for some reason, which was great.

I agree with some others that this hotel is really great for families with children, since it is spread out and there is plenty to do (and even to just run around). That said, it was just my wife and I and we really liked it.

We ate at the Moose's Nook twice and thought it was very good (the "cheaper" places cost the same amount!). One oddity was that when we made reservations both times the conceirge asked if we were celebrating any occasions. We were actually celebrating our 5 year anniversary and told the conceirge so. When we went to eat though they didn't mention or it or do anything. Not that we minded, but it was odd that they would make such a big deal asking about it but then ignore it at dinner (had us expecting something...).

Overall though I thought it was very nice.

We planned to stay at the Jasper Lodge for 4 nights as part of our trip through the Rockies. We picked a lakeside suite since it was our anniversary although gulped at the price...in retrospect the accomodations were very nice but not for that price.

We only lasted two nights not because there is anything wrong with Jasper Lodge but because it was too much of a golf/family resort and not what we were hoping for in a Rockies vacation.

The suite overlooked the lake and was nicely appointed although with the sliding door open, you could hear the highway traffic. Setting is very lovely and well manicured but honestly we were looking for something more rustic.

Service was very professional and polished throughout the resort-a wonderful , top notchstaff.

Food at the restaurants were what we would expect at a resort-nothing special and quite pricey.

The elk were very accomodating! Strolled by us in the evening as we were sitting overlooking the lake and posed for pictures!!!!

This is a great option if you are looking for a well run resort with proximity to a national park.

I stayed here in July 2008, and was very suprised on entering the room how hot it was, and how basic it looked. There is no air conditioning, and the rooms look tired and poorly kempt on the outside It is not of the fairmont quality that is to be expected. The setting reminded me of a butlins holiday camp. We ate food in the emerald lounge and it was poor quality, and there was even a squirel under our table as we ate. YOu have to queue up for 10 to 15 minutes to speak to concierge, and the shuttlebus into town costs 5 dollars per person for one journey, and it stops running at 6pm. I have never been charged for a shuttle service before. A cab costs about 18 dollars for a one way ride into town.

I would stay elsewhere in Jasper, as you get the beautiful scenery wherever you stay in jasper, and the price to stay at the fairmont is far too expensive for what you get, and then you dont even get air conditioning or good service.

We booked 1 night at the Fairmont in Jasper during our 2 week road trip. Having stayed at many fairmonts and comingn from the Fairmont Chateaux Lake Louise we had high expectations. While the main lodge is quite nice we were not impressed by our room (especially given the astronomical price!). We felt as though we were staying at a $59,99 motel hidden in a "lodge". The room is in MAJOR need of a reno: the bathrooms are tiny and very dated as is the room. Also-since the temperature in Jasper is rarely hot, there is no air conditioning in the cabins. It was about 100 degrees when we were there so we had to sleep with both the front door and the back door wide open so we did not melt. This seemed very much like a kids summer camp--there were a lot of young children running around the property and at the pool, on the tennis courts etc. Finally, anything you want to do or drink or eat at the lodge is extra...they charge for tennis racquets, time on the court, bikes, canoes, EVERYTHING, and in a region where you can't drink the water from the taps, they even over charge for bottled water! Overall, I do not think that the Fairmont in Jasper was for us. However, unfortunately they pretty much have the market in Jasper as there are not many "high end" options. Good for families, not so much for well traveled young adults.

This lodge was one of the hotels we stayed at on an APT tour of Canada and Alaska. Our room was upstairs in a lodge and we had our own balcony in he front with chairs and a table to relax.
The room was very comfortable and in a lovely setting. We walked along the lake before dinner and it was so quiet and peaceful. Had dinner in the Meadows Restaurant and the food was delicious. Went for a walk after dinner and saw 2 elk near one of the chalets. Had a lovely breakfast in the main lodge and on our way back to the chalet saw another elk right in our front garden. Can't comment on the cost of the meals as they were included in the price of our tour. This was a lovely place and I wish we had more time to spend there.

  • Liked — The whole look of the place, like a big lodge in a forest
  • Disliked — Nothing
