“Peaceful Destination and Amazing Pool”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 16, 2011

We stayed here as a family of four this summer, and despite cool weather, we fell in love with Jasper and The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge. The lodge and resort have everything you need, although town is only a short drive away. Our favourite thing to do was enjoy the beautiful views from the heated outdoor pool and we didn't have time to use the newly renovated spa but it looked great. I did enjoy a morning yoga class in the art gallery. There is horseback riding on the grounds as well as a beautiful golf course.

The lobby is quite grand and a nice place to relax with a glass of wine while the kids run around. This was a very family friendly resort, with plenty to explore outside on the walk to the rooms. Felt like a true cottage experience with all of the conveniences of a luxury resort. The views were out of this world.

Room Tip: Upgrade to a view room, there are nice patios which are worth it.

When you book the Fairmont brand you expect a certain standard and this is not the case. This is a budget 2 star property. I had read the reviews on TA and taken into account everyone’s comments so I booked their top room the “Lakeside Suite” thinking this should make up for it, and I thought oh well we can sit out on the balcony and have a nice view of the lake and I was prepared for a poor standard room. I was WRONG WRONG WRONG. You do not get a view of the lake just of the trees that are blocking your view of the lake. I went to reception to see if I could get downgraded to a Whistler room that at least had a view of the lake and was told they were all full, which they were not because I could have booked one on the internet. Yes the location is lovely but the rest is a disappointment. Fairmont either need to bulldoze the entire resort and start again or sell it and let someone else market it as “back packer” accommodation which would be a shame because the location is perfect.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else

Thank you for reviewing The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge. We sincerely apologize for the confusion you experienced during the booking process. Our Lakefront Suites, though situated next to Lac Beauvert, are not named Lakeview Suites as the view is, from some suites, obstructed by the surrounding trees and foliage. As a property situated in both a National Park and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the resort does everything in it's power to be as non-intrusive as possible to the natural environment. This includes having trees on the property that may obstruct partial views from certain areas. Your feedback will allow us to review our descriptions on the website to ensure that this is clear for our guests. We hope to have a chance to welcome you back to The Lodge in the future.
Sincerely, The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge

This was our 4th hotel, and the one I was most concerned about, it was our only hotel. How wrong I was.
The service was fantastic, the spa amazing, the food lovely.

The only issue was the long walk back to our suite. However all in all a great hotel

This review is from the perspective of international travellers on tour through the spectacular Rockies. If this is you - Jasper Park Lodge is not a good option. You're much better off to stay at one of the accommodations in town.

The Lodge is 15 min from town by car. The hotel shuttle service is infrequent and doesn't run in the evening, designed to make you eat at the Lodge.

Jasper Town has plenty of great eating options. The Lodge, in contrast, offers expensive meals that aren't good value for money. On the evening we ate there, the terrace appeared to be understaffed so part of the area was closed. Guests were jockeying for position and rearranging tables to get some floor space.

Fairmont properties in Banff and Lake Louise have wonderful delis with wide ranges of breakfast, snack and light meal options and plenty of tables. Jasper Lodge has a small shop with limited options and no tables. The author paid $22 plus tax for toast and coffee.

Our room needed refurbishment (like much of the Lodge). It had no air-con and was stifling at night. The mattress was U-shaped and the bed was rickety.

The property is extensive and may have numerous facilities - unknown to us because there was no service or property directory (apparently a printers' problem).

We tried to get a cab into Jasper on our second night and experienced booking problems. The Lodge's location on the lake edge is sublime but it's not worth the hassle. In the author's opinion, this property needs new management and about $40 million.

My sister and I stayed for 2 nights (Sept 5-6, 2011). Although I rate it as a 5-star hotel we found it too expensive (for twenty-somethings) and inconvenient traveling between the hotel and town without a car. Was told about Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge by a relative and it looked beautiful from the website, so I selected it not aware of the many other accommodations in the Town of Jasper. If I had known about cheaper hotels in town, I likely would have chosen one of those instead, especially since most of our time wasn't spent at the hotel. The hotel's restaurants are expensive and we didn't have a rental car the whole time to get into town for cheaper food. The shuttle to and from town costs $5/person but doesn't run as frequently as we would like, and taxi costs $20 one way. However, it is a beautiful resort, with a gorgeous lake, nice trail and many recreational activities. I only wish I had more time to enjoy the resort and other attractions in Jasper given how much we paid for this hotel. We spent most of our time driving on the beautiful Icefield Parkway and at Columbia Icefield (1.5 hour drive from Jasper). The room was nice but you can hear people talking in the next cabin room; luckily we didn't have noisy neighbours. Lots of seniors at the hotel, but probably also reflective of the Town of Jasper.

We were disappointed with our stay at the JPL because we have stayed at many Fairmont resorts and have always had wonderful experiences. When we arrived, our room smelled heavily of smoke although all rooms are to be non smoking. I called and they said housekeeping would be in to do a "refresh". In the meantime we went outside to wait and got locked out. So we went back to the main desk and asked to be moved to another room. We got a new room and drove back to our old room to retrieve our baggage. We went to the new room and it also smelled but not like smoke so we decided to stay. We checked out the pool and were disappointed that there was no "hot" pool. The pool itself is heated but is still quite cool. The next morning we went to the breakfast buffet and found something in our food. We pointed this out to the staff and they tried to insist it was food, even though we knew it wasn't. Finally after much arguing we asked that one of us not be charged for our meal and we were not, but it was certainly done in a very rude way as the server told us we would not be charged and then stormed off! I hope you have been success there than we did because the view from the pool/restaurant and some of the rooms is spectacular. I do recommend that visitors to Jasper take the Gondola lift, it is well worth the trip. Just wear good footwear if you plan to do the 30 minute hike to the summit of The Whistlers.

My wife and I stayed at the JPL for two nights right after Christmas. So the entire place was still looking quite festive. The giant Christmas tree and the fireplace made the central lodge an excellent place to sit in the evening. We enjoyed wine and hot chocolate while making some new friends from England and doing a jigsaw puzzle.

I also loved the heated pool/spring as the temperatures when we were there were hovering around the -25 degree mark and you hair would freeze almost instantly if you lifted yourself out of the water too far. Quite the unique experience.

I agree that the rooms are a little dark and rustic, and that the prices are extremely high. But if you are looking for a true Rocky Mountain experience this is a great place to get one.
